I got mine this week and was actually super surprised at how nice the screen is. For 9” you really don’t need anything super high res and it looks great!
6:14 re wide lenses: I'd assume Elgato speak in terms of full-frame focal length. If you use a 16mm lens on an APS-C camera like the Sony ZV-E10, the full-frame equivalent focal length is 24, which is above 20. 5:30 re glare: I heard polarizing lens filters can work great for this - but it does reduce overall light somewhat.
Can you explain exactly how to get script over the monitor. IE You can make the text transparent so you can see the screen behind BUT how did you display your camera output on the monitor at the same time? Thanks
I ordered the Stream Deck + because I intend to use it with the Elgato Prompter (as soon as I can get my hands on it) and was trying to get the lay of the land. You've created a very helpful series of videos and on top of that, there's much to learn from the way you're presenting. Thank you for putting in such a huge effort to create quality content! 😊
What I wonder about, is how well it avoids the "darting eyes" movements that happen from reading when your text is too wide and/or the teleprompter is too close. With a full-size teleprompter you can move it farther away, and with a phone-size teleprompter device you can try making the text bigger with narrow margins.....but the Elgato Prompter, at 9 inches wide, is unique and I can't guess how well it does with that issue. I have seen some videos with it, where the person's eye-jumps are obvious and distracting, while in other demos it looks pretty good.
I dabble with my own, small, very niche channel, and I cannot wait to put some of your advise to work on there. Also, having watched both videos on the Prompter, I ordered one and am now waiting for it to ship. Your channel has quickly become my absolute favorite, with lots of varied content of such high quality. (It's so good I almost hate it. 🙂) I would love more stuff on Canva, some stuff on how to effectively use a prompter, maybe something on effective scripting and editing techniques and I could go on and on. Channel is awesome. Just awesome.
Great information! I have the Elgato Teleprompter and the Elgato Stream Deck Plus... I'm having difficulties setting them up to run harmoniously... Any tips on how I can connect them together? And yes, I have watched many videos and nothing has been clearly helpful...
10/17/24 - Cat - I just received the Elgato prompter from B&H. Seems cool, but I'm really disappointed that it doesn't have an HDMI input. (I didn't realize that!) It's a pretty big miss on Elgato's part that limits flexibility of the unit. When I'm recording a training with RodecasterVideo (and didn't need to be reading from a "script"), I had envisioned connecting an HDMI output from the switcher into the prompter screen so I can keep my eyes on what source is hot (cameras or Keynote) without glancing away. I'm going to test and see if an HDMI-to-USB capture card is recognized by the prompter screen.
A simple trick to use when you do presentations with glasses - I can’t do without - and your screen(s) are reflecting, just lower their brightness level as much as possible.
I purchased a 16" Teleprompter all metal for 140.00 with the ability to accept monitors of up to 16" by 10.2" . I also bought a 15.6" monitor with 1000 nits capabilities and the ability to flip the image on Vertical, Horizontal, and Vertical + horizontal axis all built into the monitor. No need to go through an HDMI Flip Box or Software. I wanted to use the Teleprompter as a normal working monitor when not Live Streaming etc... Also normal monitors produce 400 to 700 nits and appear a bit dull after hitting the two-way mirror... with 1000 nits the image appears nice bright and sharp ... cheers amigos !!!
Sorry I didn't read through all 75 comments - but can you address the light bouncing back into the lens if you have a bright slide you're displaying, like in your example around 6 minutes in? I don't know if I'll be able to avoid displaying anything bright.
im a bit disappointed that the elgato camera hub doesn't detect my Sony A7RV with USB cable ( With USB C I can stream and use it as a webcam). Only works when I plug it with the camlink 4k, but that overheats my camera and there is a delay...
Amazing content well done and thank you so much!! Unfortunately my Mac Mini M2 Pro does not have a spare usb-a port to connect my Prompter’s usb-a end which I received yesterday, as my Elgato Cam Link 4K usb occupies much space… What usb-c docking station do I need to buy, so that I can connect Prompter’s usb-a port onto it, with the docking station connected to my Mac mini over the usb-c port? Many thanks in advance!!
Is there another software we need to download for the scrolling to function? I had to download DisplayLink Manager for the prompter to work, but the controls from the Camera Hub are not functioning.
Hi Cat! I just got my Prompter and uploaded Camera Hub and the voice-activated feature seems to work fine. I am using a Macbook Pro (I had to get a USBA to USBC adapter! LOL) and a Sony ZVe10 camera. My question for you - how are you able to see what your camera sees? Do you have your camera connected to your computer and streaming? I saw on your gear list you also use the ZVe10? Right now, I record on my camera (SD card) and then bring my SD card to my desktop to edit, etc. Thanks for any tips! :)
Hi Ted! I use Ecamm Live to record my videos, so I can have a program window in my Prompter display. The Sony's feed goes into Ecamm, so I never record on the camera itself.
Thanks Cat. Yes, I was one of the people who asked about HDMI hookups 😉. I sure hope they improve the software. I use the Elgato StreamDeck XL and Key lights as well. Ordered mine and back ordered until late December. Keep up the great videos.
Hi Cat. When I got my prompter it worked perfectly right out of the box, including the Opacity (script over display) option which was awesome since I didn't have to hook up a remote monitor to my camera. However, upon subsequent uses all I see is my computer desktop and the Opacity slider does nothing. So I'm back to a second camera monitor...ugh. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hi Cat, first thanks for all your videos ... super helpful and thoughtful!!! OCD-ish question: When I have the Zoom window in my prompter and click on the green "Share" button, the blue "Share" button is off the screen / too low. I have to then drag that window to another monitor to be able to click it. Have you figured out a fix? I can't make the Prompter resolution big enough to make it fit.
That is a frustration of mine, too! Most of the time I click on the window I want to share then hit Enter. It works most of the time. But when it doesn't, I need to drag it down to my main monitor.
I think you know enough about it to charge a fee for it. I would give them a time for it such as an hour or until the project is done which could easily go beyond an hour. I hired a woman who was a coach to help me set up some Egato projects who owes me some time.
I would make sure you know what equipment they have so you don't get lost trying to figure out items you are not familiar with before accepting the project.
Hello Cat that’s for all these videos, they have been really helpful. However i’m facing an issue with my Elgato Teleprompter setup when trying to use it with Skype. I can move Skype into the teleprompter’s display mode, but once it’s there, I’m unable to interact with the main Skype screen. I can open the menu bar options, but nothing in the main area (like chat or calls) is responsive. Plus, I can’t drag Skype back to my main screen afterward. Any advice or similar experiences? I’d really appreciate any help or suggestions!
@@CatMulvihill Ta. BTW regarding the "white" filter problem caused by using a slide with the white background. Maybe you could fix this by choosing "Auto White Balance" on your camera. Just a thought. 🤔
Great video. Love your tone and cadence--very easy to listen to. Q. How many Zoom participants can you have on screen in gallery mode and still comfortably see their faces--assuming participants have framed themselves with the "standard" head and shoulders look?
If you want to be making eye contact, then you really want to keep that number low. Even though it's a small screen, if you look to the sides or corners (away from the centre) you are no longer looking at the camera. If you are less concerned about that, then I would say 9-12. Since I'm a bit 'extra', I've been using Zoom's Dual Monitor option, then placing the gallery view in the Prompter, then I resize the dual monitor with the active speaker and place that in the centre. The active speaker is always in front of the camera, but I can still see the others on the call with a quick glance.
Great video - it answered all the questions I had. Almost like you knew 😊. Thanks for the follow-up post. Can’t wait to get mine in. Current back order is mid-Dec.
p.s. I am retired and taught engineers how to manage teams and their meetings. One thing I did not mention is how you present what others would call deficiencies and present them with a negative tone. They are issues but like I believe one should take them as opportunities for improvement which is how you present them as how they would improve your happiness with their product. All these little but important messages you send to the world reflect your willingness to show the benefits and show workarounds for them but don’t fail to suggest them as improvements. Anyone else trying to use this for zoom calls and notice that it looks like your gaze is looking slightly above the camera, even when looking directly into the center of the lens? Puzzling!
It should be noted that Elgato says you can use as wide as a 18mm *full frame* lens. For example, the “16 mm” Sigma Lens for Sony E Mount is a 24mm on crop mirrorless camera like the Sony ZV-E10 and will be perfectly fine with the Prompter.
