  • The biggest mistake that companies make when trying to make cultural transformations is treating it like a marketing campaign. There's a model you can use to help make big changes from starting small.

I've come across hot topics on facebook with people talking around climate change, transport infrastructure (change to cycling routes and busses) and attitudes towards environmental sustainability (Recycling, Littering etc). People are generally frustrated around the slow adoption of change and got bogged down with those complaining, blocking and trying to manage expectations all the time. Putting their challenges in this context: Celebrate those early adopters, the revolutionists, the new ideas. Engage with those who are in the middle and willing to change. Stop engaging and emotionally battling with people who are simply not going to change. Practical application to cultural and behavioural changes on key issues! Thanks Simon!

Or do what you really want, say what you want just make sure you’re understood, and be someone who are not afraid to say what they want to say, because you understand that everyone have their own opinion and that there always be someone who don’t agree. And its ok 👌 nobody have to prove anything to anyone. 😁

Awesome. Unknowingly to me i did the same for meetings everyone hated but were necessarily. Announced when, what has to be decided, invited mandatory people and told others that they can join but did not send them invite by default as everyone would join and just sit there as always. Its so way easier to make changes in group of 5 people rather than 20 where 15 never ever speak.

Everything isn’t for everyone. I like the “make it a little difficult” because for the people who aren’t really interested it will be really difficult and they won’t do it. For the people who are all about it, they won’t even see difficulty. End result= you only get the people who truly want to be there

This is so true .. Because people that aren't willing to apply themselves are just not worth the effort .. the thing is people with strong morals and ideologies will only apply themselves into things they are interested in.. or it promises and a result they desire.. I used to be very focused and applied to things i liked and was interested in .. things went wrong, when i lost interest in pretty much everything .. so i settled for entertainment. Rather than doing things .. i am not a point of reference at all .. Because if i had to choose today i would not choose the academic path .. i would go for meditating on the mountains! Which contributes nothing to society.. and i know that's not the goal.

In anything involving generalisations across large populations, I always try to think in terms of bell curves, but in a landscape way, like a 3-D actual bell. It's a good way of sussing out how traits are distributed across a population.

Interesting take. But 2 problems: 1) What happens when the Wiz is unmasked? Now we know your "trick." Millennial training must have been incredibly valuable if you got the employees to conduct it - in their spare time...for free. Otherwise, once they realize they're doing unpaid overtime just to save the company $, the resentment will be fierce. And 2) Sustainability? Newbie enthusiasm is great but it wanes. Since the company's not offering $, status, time off, etc., how it is going to sustain participation - in one's spare time...for free?

this standard deviation tells us that you need to find two types of people - innovator people and early adopter people - before the early majority and late majority people will ever accept the idea.
You cannot achieve mass market acceptance until you get innovator and early adopter acceptance!
You are really prospecting for a people persona not a company persona.

The story is in many of his talks, but I can't think of one specifically. The story is this: Somebody called him and said, "Convince me why I should hire you." Simon basically said, "You shouldn't." By that request, the guy was demonstrating that he was part of the middle of the Bell Curve. Simon works with innovators and early adopters.
