I love the metaphor of the factions being players at a poker table and the courier as the dealer able to stack the deck in the favor of a particular faction.
"I'll leave nothing to chance" actually has a double meaning because in fallout 3, speech checks were a dice roll even at speech 100, but in NV, it's a 100 chance if you're over the neccessary. Pretty cool :)
Sounds like y'all can't play a game without power playing and having to reload, you guys know that failing speech checks can lead to multiple new dialogues and ways to handle a situation this is true even in New Vegas just harder to notice since speech is more guaranteed.

Or Ulysses might be moving into view from the dark corridor just as Courier ends dealing the cards. He leans against the doorframe and watches the game while nobody apart from the Courier seems to notice him or care about his presence.

Can we please acknowledge how FUCKING HARD the Legion bit goes? I literally listen to the 40 odd seconds of the Legion verse over and over because it's so fucking good
Just as I was getting back into Fallout Gavin comes and gifts us with a musical piece made in heaven. I had lamented to myself for a long time that such a fantastic and wide world as the one explored in Fallout New Vegas had gotten a musical treatment from you with a funny, albeit simple song, back from the time when you were starting off. Your music back then was great, but compared to the masterful works you have produced since then it fell rather short. Having FO:NV confined to that timeframe always saddened me, but now I don't need to worry about that anymore because, Christ, this song is amazing. One of your best, I dare say.
Got to say, I like the way this goes. Intro (Courier themselves), House, NCR, Legion, the rest (independence), a final reference to Ulysses (after some hints throughout the song) and then the end with a Mojave version of Wasteland Soul. All that mixed with the gambling and card motifs throughout the song (which were always in the game too House, Benny and the Forecaster are good examples of that idea.) I've got a lot of thoughts on this song, overall, I'd say it's brilliant. Only way it could be better is if Keith getting gunned down was in the video (that's a joke based on my personal inexplicable like of Keith.)
"Ain't that a kick in the head?" "Man, ‘a kick’ sure is a funny way to pronounce 'two nine millimeter rounds', but whatever." "Six, please." -Benny and Courier Six, at some point, probably, idk.
Correction. Maria uses 10mm ammunition. She is a 9mm pistol with a unique skin but really uses 10mm rounds in game. And Courier Six was shot once in the cutscene

I can just imagine Caesar Tandi and a robot with House face in it standing around a poker table. In front of them chips in the shape of land provinces like in the map of HOI4. Two cards are dealt at the table. The platinum chip and the Hoover Dam. The moment they see that all three shout ''ALL IN'' and push all the chips in the middle and look at the dealer. The dealer who just happens to be the Courier laughs pulls a card from his sleeve and places it next to the 2 others...a card depicting the courier himself. Thank you for this amazing song!
@@AvocetR6 Yeah, in all routes, Kimball even goes to Hoover Dam to give a speech to the troops stationed there, which in some routes, is the end of him
I imagine benny losing, giving every one a smirk as he leaves but later after imagine houses securitron (which is playing for him) suddenly going offline for a bit later turning back on with a new off putting smiling face which then picks up bennys cards and continues to play
@Gr8Sc0tt when tandi passed on the ncr fell back to the typical problems that plague a democratic nation. infighting, bribes greed, and all that "lovely" prewar stuff. the ncr basically became a second united states. complete with a version of manifest destiny and willsonianism (as it believes it knows best for the Mojave and anywhere else it took over) . the ncr wants to add the Mojave (or rather the whole of what once was navada) to it so that one, the rich cattle barons have more space, and 2 for what ever old world tech is in navada. i figure the ncr would likely suffer the same fate as the prewar states. as everything has a defined maximum size. going over it leads to it falling apart.
This song so perfectly fits New Vegas. If there's ever a New Vegas Special Edition, or an official remaster of any other kind, this song absolutely _MUST_ become its official music.
How maybe for the end credits but that's it for it to exist in Universe it have to be in a sequel to New Vegas because it has too much information on The Courier who up until like halfway through the game is just to walk the Wasteland f***
The legion's part of the song is straight up some of the best stuff i've heard in a while. The rest of the song is also amazing just very different from that one part, not that thats a bad thing.
Me halfway through the song: "Come on, Gavin... NCR's nice and all, but give us some Legion, will you?" Gavin: 4:44 Me: "SCOUR THE EAST; PROWL UPON THE BORDERS"
UA-cam has weird ad placement cause I was singing along to this and all of a sudden "General another settlement needs your help I'll mark it on your map"
I absolutely love this song the metaphor that the factions really on the player too help them win and stack the deck in the favor but all the while he could stack it in his favor and take control. The special descriptions for the minor factions like the enclave who are strays that were scattered after Navaro fell or how the Brotherhood is now a brotherhood that hides and hoards, or the Great Khans who are chem addicts and have been beat and broken many times but never are gone, or the boomers who are secluded but any who come near face the thunder of guns and finally the Followers and how they just want to help and heal and follow that idea. If anyone wants too read what my interpretation of this song means and if the creator confirms it as accurate leave a comment
@@MishraArtificer Your welcome I also used the character that they showed for each of the minor descriptions to help come to these coclusions but this entire song literally spans the story of the courier throughout the main game and eventually into Lonesome Road.

Shady Sands is entirely on Howard. The OTHER Howard. And yes, the motivation of wsnting to destroy whatever existed before them and build anew very much applies in Bethesda's case.
That legion section goes crazy, I also appreciate it was shorter than the other major factions. The legion would want their point to be clear and quick, they don’t need to give you a long winded explanation.
Everything after “scattered strays who’ve lost their meaning” goes unbelievable hard. Like the whole song is a masterpiece, but musically it builds up to that point and then it absolutely delivers. A story told through music, not through lyrics, that’s what makes a song good. The lyrics are awesome too don’t get me wrong

And to think that The Stupedium and JT music also made some FO:NV videos a year ago, they just make it that much sweeter.

Hail Sithis?(I know that's an Elder Scrolls reference. Fight me.)
Got to say, I like the way this goes. Intro (Courier themselves), House, NCR, Legion, the rest (independence), a final reference to Ulysses (after some hints throughout the song) and then the end with a Mojave version of Wasteland Soul.
All that mixed with the gambling and card motifs throughout the song (which were always in the game too House, Benny and the Forecaster are good examples of that idea.)
I've got a lot of thoughts on this song, overall, I'd say it's brilliant.
Only way it could be better is if Keith getting gunned down was in the video (that's a joke based on my personal inexplicable like of Keith.)
6:16 That entire montage of the factions is actually chilling with those lyrics. The one about Ulysses was especially awesome.
"Ain't that a kick in the head?"
"Man, ‘a kick’ sure is a funny way to pronounce 'two nine millimeter rounds', but whatever."
"Six, please."
-Benny and Courier Six, at some point, probably, idk.
I laughed harder than I probably should have :D
more like a funny way to pronounce mini-nuke.
Ring-a-ding-ding baby
"Baby, why do you gotta be like that?"

Yeah! SOMEBODY SAYS HOI 4?!
This song so perfectly fits New Vegas. If there's ever a New Vegas Special Edition, or an official remaster of any other kind, this song absolutely _MUST_ become its official music.

My full understanding of this song:
----------
VERSE 1 (The Courier's POV):
Broken bone, and liar's lead
Caught off guard, and left for dead
Luck keeps turning, as the light begins to dull
And by healing hands, I'm saved
Pulled from, my shallow grave
I can feel reprisal, aching through my skull
Set my sights, on shining spires
Set out on, the highways tired
On the desert sands, and ruined roads, I roam
And this old, lonesome road
Shall bring me, what I'm owed
These new empires on old stones, shall be my home
PRE-CHORUS (The paths to choose):
*Instrumental*
Under the Mojave sky
*Instrumental*
I find a flag to fly
CHORUS (The Mojave Conquest War):
To tip the odds, and rig the game
Deal another hand, and play
Every card, a shift of circumstance
Let every bettor, stake their claim
Deal another hand, and play
Stack the deck, I'm letting nothing fall to chance
VERSE 2 (Robert House's POV):
Atop, the glistening tower
Watching, the struggles for power
The house sees every deal with, in-this-town
Behind, the gangs, and the walls
Keeping, a close eye, on all
Old secrets buried in the, un-der-ground
CHORUS (The Mojave Conquest War):
To tip the odds, and rig the game
Deal another hand, and play
Every card, a shift of circumstance
Let every bettor, stake their claim
Deal another hand, and play
Stack the deck, I'm letting nothing fall to chance
*Instrumental*
BRIDGE 1 (The NCR's POV):
Lumbering, across the west
Ruined treasures, repossessed
Resurrect, the old soul of America
Laws and labour, structures tight
Memories, of faded might
Resurrect, the old soul of America
And oh, oh-whoa, oh-whoa
The bear is roving, out across the west
And oh, oh-whoa, oh-whoa
The bear is roving, out across the west
BRIDGE 2 (The Legion’s POV):
Shadows loom
All go soon
To war
*Instrumental*
From the chaos, comes form and order
From the many, comes the one
Scour the east, prowl upon the borders
Come to crush, and overrun
Brutal the bull, gouge out the weak
Tongue of tyrant, at the core
Force of ancients, strike down the meek
Raise the flags, the banners of war
*Instrumental*
The banners of war
*Instrumental*
CHORUS V2 (The Mojave Conquest War):
So, tip the odds, and rig the game
Deal another hand, and play
Every card, a shift of circumstance
Let every bettor, stake their claim
Deal another hand, and play
Stack the deck, I'm letting nothing fall to chance
*Instrumental*
Someday, the change will come
Oooooohhh
BRIDGE 3 (Yes Man’s POV (I think)):
Scattered strays, who've lost their meaning
Brotherhoods, who hide and horde
Followers, of help and healing
The addicted, lost and scorned
The secluded, rumbling thunder
And the spite, of prison bars
And the vengeful eyes, of wells run dry
That watch me, from afar
Someday, the change will come and, wash the doubt away
The heart of the desert will beat, harder on this day
Someday, the change will come and, wash the doubt away
The heart of the desert will beat, harder on this day
Yeah
This day
