      That doesn't stop a professional pickpocket, they can even take a tie from around your neck, a belt off and a watch from your wrist. It's all about how they use the surroundings to distract the victims. I have seen a lot of videos of people not even realising anything has happened as it is over in a second.

    • @SueK449
      @SueK449 Рік тому

      I’ll offer this as advice you can take or leave in hopes it may help at least one person…I used to travel a lot and my rule of thumb was never carry all of your “stuff” (credit cards, cash, checks, tickets, passport etc) in one place. Wear them on your body under your clothes (not in your clothes) and separate them…in your socks, around your belly under your underwear, in your bra….get creative. Never in a pocket, jacket, bag, backpack, belly bag, wallet, or stroller. Carry minimal cash for food or drink in pockets you can reach, but keep the rest secure on your body in several places. If you get held up or pick pocketed you lose some cash not all of it. You can tolerate losing one thing or another better than you can tolerate losing everything. Have copies of passport, drivers license, credit cards, tickets stashed in your hotel safe and on your person. If you don’t trust the room safe, use the hotel safe behind the front desk. Never leave your passport at the front desk as a guarantee….pay up front. Have copies of the numbers to call to cancel your credit cards (not with the cards obviously!) so if you lose one, you can shut it down immediately and get a replacement. Have the numbers of your consulate or embassy on you so if your passport is stolen you can report it immediately.
      Another big rule…if you can’t afford to lose it, don’t take it. Leave valuables like rings, watches, necklaces at home…if you must wear jewelry buy cheap costume for travel. They get stolen no problem for you, no gain for a thief. You don’t want to risk losing expensive or heirloom items. If you get hit by a pickpocket you don’t lose much, they don’t gain much, and your trip isn’t ruined.
      There is nothing more tragic than meeting a family on a plane heading home after spending their long awaited once in a lifetime vacation in an embassy getting replacement passports and struggling for money because their credit cards and cash were also stolen. Embassies can help, but only so much…you will never get that vacation back, you may spend months trying to clear up the financial mess, and what a horrible memory. Nothing is 100% guaranteed, but I hope this helps someone avoid a mess!

      @@Bond2025 In a crowd of people, my understanding is they scan for easy marks. Wallets in back pockets and stuff. Just don't be the low hanging fruit. A supernatural ninja pickpocket who can unzip your jacket and reach inside it without you noticing would still prefer to poke two fingertips into the back pocket of jeans.

Demanding someone stop filming is a breach of article 8 and 10 of a person's human rights. Filming on private land has nothing to do with the Human Rights Act. Under English law you can photograph private property without permission as long as you are on public land. However, the owner of private land can lawfully refuse to give you permission to go/be on their land to take photographs. The quadrangle at Horseguards is private property, policed by the Ministry of Defence. So the MoD police officer was perfectly correct to ask the (video) photographers to leave but they were then within their rights to film from the public highway/pavement.

    Best thing to do is, wear button up shirts with front pockets, preferably with snap or button flaps on them chest high, and cooler weather, wear a coat or jacket over it, makes it harder for pick pockets to access. If you wear a backpack, or fanny pack, don't put your money in them either for same reason.

      These Military Horses are so highly trained & have nothing in common with the horses we see in fields? They are War Horses & trained on numerous surfaces?their shift is only 45 mins? they have an excellent life & treated with great respect? You should have a look at their training videos? They train on beaches away from the public? If you look up Yellow Craig beach in Scotland you can see some of their training?

    The government has to weigh the monetary value of posting soldiers and horses where tourists can get at them against the certainty that problems will be created by yahoos who've no knowledge of how to act around man and beast or how to avoid pickpockets. This choice influences many decisions facing England, and so far, tourism is winning.

      It’s not a tourist attraction, it’s a working military barracks, the soldiers are not actors and the horses aren’t a petting zoo. It’s open to public and attracts tourists but its purpose isn’t for public pleasure but to conduct the business of the King’s Horse Guards. They do one hour of duty at a time and are better treated than any privately owned horse by far.
