The Kings Gaurds owe the public nothing. They are loyal to the King and their country, not grown ass adults on vacation that treat them and their horses like an attraction put there for their entertainment. These men, women and horses are active military soldiers on an actual military base. The public needs to be accountable for their own actions and the consequences to those actions. It's so ridiculous that even needs to be said. These soldiers deserve our respect. Regardless of where you are from you are a visitor and they are allowing you to experience these magnificent creatures up close.

That's the only reason they're there. 2. No, she's not "active military", at least in the broader military sense of the word - "active" means operational, and this is a ceremonial duty done by a ceremonial unit. In this case the unit (King's Troop) only ever does ceremonial duties and that's what those in it do throughout their military career. No disrespect to them at all, but that's simply what they do, and very, very few, will ever serve in another unit or operationally and if they do they are very, very unlikely to ever return to King's Troop. 3. It's not a "military base", although it used to be a couple of hundred years ago. It's now only a small administrative office building for HQ Household Division and HQ London District, used as a right of way for the public to go from the Mall to St James's. That officer is great also! He often intervenes for the guard when the crowds get unruly.. And he is very proactive about attempting to educate the tourists as to the proper behavior.

The smaller horses are selected for the Kings Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, because they have a very different role, in that they're normally towing gun carriages, not usually standing guard duty at Horse Guards. They tend to be smaller and sturdier than cavalry mounts. RHA are only there for a short time, doing the relief while the Household Cavalry have their annual break, and that includes the Household Cavalry horses also having a break. The mounted cavalry horses are unavailable to them. RHA ride the horses they know well. It has nothing to do with their ability as riders. It also appears that there may have been instructions from above to limit the shouting at tourists. Good to see that guard kicking away the tourists who were far too close to her and her mount.

The riders position depends on their experience, ability and rank, not their gender.
Nonsense. These horses are more relaxed and far happier. They are generally kept on more loose reins more in the box, so they're not as bothered by the bit (that is shaking their heads up and down, chewing excessively and sticking their tongues out as much). They are handled with more care generally. You see much more of a good connection between the rider and the horse generally, and you don't see so much of these horses display nervousness or being spooked because of that trust. These guards are also highly attentive and really on it, both in terms of helping nice tourists out and protecting their horses, which this guard did! It's not down to the individual guards to decide if the tourists generally get to touch the horses. That is no doubt down to protocol. The sign should say "Don't touch the horses!" and that's all there is to it, and I do hope that it will before someone gets hurt here!

They are generally kept on more loose reins more in the box, so they're not as bothered by the bit (that is shaking their heads up and down, chewing excessively and sticking their tongues out as much). They are handled with more care generally. You see much more of a good connection between the rider and the horse generally, and you don't see so much of these horses display nervousness or being spooked because of that trust. These guards are also highly attentive and really on it, both in terms of helping nice tourists out and protecting their horses, which this guard did! It's not down to the individual guards to decide if the tourists generally get to touch the horses. That is no doubt down to protocol. The sign should say "Don't touch the horses!" and that's all there is to it, and I do hope that it will before someone gets hurt here!
