    nr 1 thing I wish I knew was how important it is to move your back foot, and how much more a board will turn the further back you go. for well over a decade I kept landing with my back foot in front of the stomp pad, never moved it at all, and always got stuck trying to turn. if I could go back to the 90s that would be the number one advice I'd give myself. learn to move your back foot.
    number 2 would be to convince someone to film you and see for yourself what you're doing vs what you think is happening in the water. that's been a painful and embarrassing experience for me personally, but imo it's probably the best way to actually get better. I'm in my 40s now and still sign up for sessions at the same school where I first learned to stand on a board just so I can get footage.

    Would love to see a follow up about how to step down to a shortboard or performance board. Not a ton of great info out there on this and it can be a big transition. Congrats on moving on from Used Surf
