- In this episode, Noel Salas of Surf n' Show goes to Fireside Surf in Dallas, Texas to start a new Surf Lesson Series with 4 key tips to help progress your surfing. Whether you are an advanced surfer or just beginning, these basic fundamentals will help you increase speed and set your board on rails. On top of that, Noel gives you practical application on his surfskate, so you can practice each tip.
1. Learn how to accelerate and stall using weight transfer with proper body mechanics. Use 60-40% weight transfer to get in the barrel and not miss waves.
2. Use your head to look where you're going. Where your head goes, the body and surfboard will follow.
3. Use heal-toe pressure to generate speed and turn your board to get on rail.
4. Foot placement is so important. Keep your back foot on the back of the tail pad to get the most out of your turns.
This episode is packed full. Watch the full episode for all the details. Enjoy!

From one teacher to another, Great job.
@@jasonsmith8929 Cheers for the kind words!!!
Just goes to show you can always learn something. I'd consider myself an intermediate/advanced surfer but I never considered heel/toe when I'm hopping through flatter sections...lol. I'll put that on the list of things to try.
Hmm…. Always wondered if there was any value to these types of artificial waves since there is no real bottom turn. Super interesting.
@@coldseamonster if you think about it…. A cutback is basically a bottom turn. You are just doing the turns at two different spots on the wave.
Lots of great basic instruction and techniques shown in a visual way. I learned a lot. Good job, thanks.
@@slangbuster Stoked it helped you understand
thank you Noel! Fireside is on my
bucket list next time i go to Waco!
@@stacygibsonyoga Absolutely… it’s pretty fun
Awesome clip Noel! Great advice to improve surfing skills, in and out of the water. Thank you!
Also don't forgetcthe arm and hand positions of the leading arm. Palm up also helps rotation.
Great stuff!🤙🏼
Thanks for putting this together Noel! Did you move to Texas? I could see it worth it to be close to a wave pool.. probably easier to get a higher number of good waves there vs crowded socal for an average joe like me 🙂
@@madscientistdan Yes… we moved to Dallas February 1, 2023. Stoked to be surfing Waco, Fireside Surf, and occasionally Wake Surfing.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 too cool! I thought it was just me noticing the pattern with the wavepools in texas in your vids. That's great to hear... gives me hope... a little sick of the socal crowds and overpopulation in san diego and maybe one day will sell my house and head elsewhere but I still want to surf!!
Wow, that’s a big move, hope you guys are enjoying it there 👍🏽
Can you do an episode on how to do airs at fireside? Maybe see you there sometime!
@@euphoriafins2470 we will get to advanced surfing there soon.
Have you surfed a wave garden pool yet?
@@jimjam8687 Not yet… I want to really bad.
When is Super Nova board review coming out? I'm really looking forward to it.
5:15 what size board were u riding here?
@@ryanluechin6408 That board is a 5’ Duke Aipa “Deadpool” made in XTR10 Foam. Duke makes the best boards I’ve tested so far in these River type waves. If you’re looking for a board for Fireside or Good Surf give Duke a shout.
Missing California yet? I would miss the ocean too much!
@@timkeane2907 Yes, of course I miss certain things about CA. Having a great time in Texas though!!!
