Right 🤣
IKR 🤣🤎💋
Silence can sometimes be a gift for some. For others... Not so much. 😂
I concur
My wife is deaf wears hearing aids and doesn’t know asl. Restaurants aren’t enjoyable for us if it’s nosy because the tones she hears effects conversation. It’s better sometimes to turn off the aids honestly and then the staff just think she’s rude. People in society don’t realiZe not everyone is rude or arrogant just can’t friggin hear ya lol
It's even more incredible when you consider how poorly she is paid.
It May help get better tips though, hopefully...
randy mcelhaney maybe but I was a server and never had a deaf customer. This wouldn’t be common enough for those tips to really help. It sucks she’s being paid so low, she could use this in a better job
Lmao bruh either you doing a bad job or not trying cause I had friends always making 100 dollar days easy, plus regular pay.... Why do people always say stupid shit like that? Makes no sense.
Dude one person making good tips doesnt mean that everyone does. Some jobs r better than others. That is reality. Please stop being stupid.
@@kirio1038 that's why friends is pluralized dumbass. Some working at other places too. They always take server jobs since they're easy.
I have a deaf son and we were travelling cross country one time and stopped at a Subway in a smalltown in South Dakota and the lady behind the counter knew ASL and was able to order with my son with no assistance for me. As weird as it sounds it was the highlight of the trip for him.
Just wonderful. There are still good people in the world
awesome story
Welcome to South Dakota! :)
I'm sure it did!
Ain't nothing weird about that at all . Happy you guys experienced that
I did this at a restaurant where I worked. The waitress told me she didn’t know what they were saying, I told her to hold on. I signed to them, even with the little I knew (enough to hold small talk) the customers were so happy. I then got talked to by the owner- saying “that’s not your place. That was someone else’s table!” Told them that I was sorry but aren’t we suppose to make the customer fell welcomed ? They told me “they can point at what they want!” Needless to say- I left that place ASAP
Wow! Good, glad u left they didn't deserve u
Sadly most restaurants and bars don't survive because of good management. It's because every bar and restaurant has a YOU (or a few YOUs) who make guests happy. Hope you're working somewhere you're appreciated and respected.
Thank the gods you moved on. My dad would love to have you at his butcher shop. My dad knows asl because of my uncle and business from his deaf regulars always brings in new, high paying customers. We got a gift basket from Italy once when his regular was on vacation.q
Rude. ASL should be part of the business inclusion with the American Disability Act. Not everyone is in a frigging wheelchair!
They didn't deserve you. Pure and simple.
Im an interpreter and it looks like he ordered, over easy eggs with ham, in case anyone was interested in what he was saying lol
@Blissful 1 ...hello, i actually spoke sign language since grade 1, we had a class for deaf kids in my school, and Iused to see them speaking sign language at recess or during school gatherings, and i was always very curious, one day one of those students named cory was being bullied walking home, even tho we couldnt speak, i walked home with him, and we became very close friends, thats where it started, after high school, i didnt know what i wanted to do so i enrolled in college classes to get certified as an interpreter, cory and I are 43 years old now, and still very close pals, we dont see each other as much anymore, but still very close.

I was working at a hospital and had to head to the ER to get someone for emergency surgery.
However, I faced an arrogant doctor who stated "Good luck with her. She's deaf and dumb."
When I went up to the patient and signed in Auslan "Do you know sign language?" She burst into tears, signing as fast as she possibly could "Thank you "
It still affects me to this day.
😪
To balckbettystack...
The doctor was the deaf and DUMB person in the room...clearly he should have known she needed help with communicating...thank goodness for this patient you were present and could help her.
A GODSENT...
Shame and I mean SHAME on the doctor.
I work with a lot of doctors and some are very very very rude. They don’t care about their patients or anyone but themselves. They talk down to whoever they want to. It’s pathetic. 🤮 🖕🏽
Did you report the doctor?
@@84848AR It wouldn't have done any good as that hospital is known for being awful, abusive and neglectful to patients. So, they wouldn't have done anything except tell him that he was reported.
I never thought learning ASL in school would benefit me at all. 18 years later and I recently dealt with a new client, and he was surprised that I could engage with him on his level.
Both my parents are deaf and when i see this it makes me happy..deaf people appricate it alot when someone who knows asl will use it to help them thru threyre problems

A blessing she was working there that day tho. Otherwise another worker wouldn’t know what he’s trying to order.
Because she can sign she's overqualified? I know tons of people that use sign language. That doesn't mean anything other than being bilingual. Would she be over qualified if she spoke spanish?
@@sunshinetoney2787 what are you doing?
I was a waitress for over a year and I had regular deaf customers. Every time they would come in, if I was on the floor, their table would automatically become mine as I was the only one who knew ASL. It's nice seeing other servers doing the same
I imagine you could get some good tips if you're the only one who can properly communicate with someone. Not a bad shout really. Everything's so competitive you want that extra string to your bow.
Didn’t your menus have pictures?
Afro Mamba Do you point to the pictures when you order your food? I don’t think so. People communicate with the server to tell them if they want their food well done or other things to accommodate to what they want.
@@missmelissaa alot of people naturally point to pictures or even just the writing on menus. Especially in loud places or the biggest reason if they're unsure how to pronounce something.

This is wonderful, but at the same time horrible that kindness nowadays is so rare.
Also frustrating bcuz we all know how poorly she's paid
It’s not the kindness. You can’t expect people who don’t know sign language to be able to do this. Most people would do it if they knew how to. I would do it if I knew how! Bringing kindness in this topic or seeing her as a kind of hero is stupid. She’s just a regular women doing her job. The only difference is she knows sign language, likely because of a relative who is deaf. Nothing is special or wonderful, and it has nothing to do with people no longuer being kind
Florence Vallée If for me thare is kindness, there is kindness because nowadays people are so mean that something “normal” like helping someone melts my heart. Saying that my thought is stupid, for example, it’s not kind of you. I respect and understand your observation and opinion, but please, respect mine you too.
@@FlorenceSlugcat that whole response..sounds RIDICULOUS. Kindness IS RARE. IT'S NOT COMMON ANYMORE AND IT SHOULDN'T EVEN BE AN ISSUE that someone is viewing this as an act of kindness. People are lazy and selfish now. It was nice.

This is why ppl like this aren’t treated fairly bc ppl like you come along and think it’s some crazy thing that needs to be treated with respect simply bc she took this mans breakfast order and he just so happened to be hearing impaired. Foh.
I Am The Queef Queen
It’s not just the fact that she took an order, it’s the fact that she had patience with him and actually knew sign language instead of having him write on a paper or kick him out for not having an interpreter(and yes I have seen a lot of that but there are some cases where they have a family member with them but that’s not the case) . People don’t know when they get to experience this as a server or with any job of interaction like this and it might be a little scary(as some people would say). They aren’t liking it because “oh she served some food” it’s the way she handled it and the way she knew sign language already that made this great moment and a great experience for her. So of course people would enjoy it.
This is the best way to bond with a customer! As a long time server I learned how to greet people in 6 different languages and have always had strong bonds with customers regardless of language barriers. Because that’s all they are, barriers for us to break down. This was so heartwarming ❤️

I take it you started learning does the school help you out or do you have to go find a course or something was just wondering
There’s some great online courses and I would imagine your local community college likely has a course as well. It’s well worth the effort to learn…I’m still trying.

@@braulioxDify Any language is valuable because it enhances your mind in ways a lot of other subjects can't. You learn particular skills. In fact studies have shown a link between learning a language, a musical instrument & maths. Plus a human brain isn't like a glass: you can never fill it completely with knowledge, but rather it expands as you learn more. It's true that there are only so many things that can be taught or learned at school because a child only has so many hours there, but I'd argue that sign language should be of equal importance to any other language. Indeed it is a language that can mostly be used in your own country, unlike other languages. If your child hopes for a career with customer contact, I guess sign language would look very promising on a CV.

@@CALIGRL888 ok thanks
How awesome. Servers...the underrated "Essential Worker".
What a sweet guy. So educational and selfless. He deserves more than that.
When I was in the 10th grade I encountered a deaf customer at my part time job and I felt horrible that I couldn’t give him the customer service that he deserved. The next couple of days, I took it upon myself to learn basic sign language that would help me at least have a simple conversation and serve customers throughout my time working part time jobs. It’s been 6 years since then and I still retained my basic asl knowledge, but I’ve had yet to use it and I’m at my 5th part time job (I moved around a lot), but I’ll always be ready and I hope that one day I can serve a customer and make them feel welcomed
I thought I loved Ihop, I now know I can love Ihop even more.
