According to a leading portal West Bengal ranked 4th for highest employability, according to India Skills Report 2022. The state has scored an overall 63.8 per cent availability of highly employable youth resources in the WNET (Wheebox National Employability Test). The state tops the list for skills available in English and features in the top 10 states for numerical reasoning, computer skills as well as critical thinking. The India Skills Report has credited state-run initiatives in Bengal's stunning improvement in increasing employability. The state-run Paschim Banga Society for Skill Development is focused on providing education and training for skill development in the region. Another scheme, Utkarsh Bangla initiated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee aims to train 6 to 8 lakh candidates each year. With Rs 1,106 crore sanctioned for skilling in the state during 2020, the results have emerged with a stunning improvement in the overall youth employability, the report states.

The proposed Bengal Silicon Valley IT Hub is an Innovative Information Technology hub cutting-edge technology, which is envisioned to attract investment in IT/ITes/Telecom projects with employment potential. This will be a futuristic hub that will catalyze the IT ecosystem in the state and will act as a beacon for the IT industry.The foundation stone of the project was laid on 13th August 2018 by Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal, Smt Mamata Banerjee.
The hub is planned to be set up on approximately 200 acres of land in a strategic location in New Town’s Action Area-II, near Eco-Park, which can be reached within ten minutes from Kolkata International Airport. The New Town-Salt Lake Sector V twin towns together have more than 74 IT companies and boasts of an ecosystem which is conducive to the growth of IT/ITes enterprises.
The proposed Bengal Silicon Valley ITHub is expected to be home to MNCs, start-ups, incubators, investors, all working on deep innovation in technology and tech-enabled business applications/models with a global footprint with few specific goals:
• Generating technology-led employment and boosting the state GDP
• Branding the state of West Bengal and the city of Kolkata as a tech-savvy and technology friendly city
• Signaling the broader tech ecosystem (in India and globally) to actively consider Kolkata as an attractive technology hub in India
Envisaged as a world-class technology center, the Bengal Silicon Valley IT Hub will provide the entire gamut of physical infrastructure to accommodate tech-led enterprises from different domains.

Firdous, you are hundred percent right. Though I live abroad, I keep close contact with India. Kolkata's employment availability is reflected in the Naukri website. I have noticed at least for the last one-year Kolkata consistently has been in the positive and even heading the list amongst all metropolises. Not only in IT, in the banking sector the city has made significant progress. The naysayers will always be there, and their opinions are clouded by their political bias and therefore need to be ignored. The foreigners I meet on their return from India, speak volumes about the City of Joy Kolkata. They praise the safety of travelling in the city, friendliness of people and the overall life and growth with an eye to preserving the nature.

One thing i hv to say that kolkata and its surroundings has many small IT companies and still is growing. You can easily get 10000 - 15000 job. Bengal Silicon Valley in Sector-V will be bigger then hydrabad or bengalore or may be biggest in India.

Bangalore was also not made in a day, first, service-based companies will expand and then looking at the talent and infra and success stories eventually product and other big consulting firms and corporates will follow the path. We just need the right marketing and PR like other successful cities did. I have stayed in Delhi NCR and Bangalore for many years and now when m back in Kolkata I can easily say that Kolkata's infra is much better than many top cities. We just need to spread the positivity without being driven by politics or agenda. Today everyone wants their city to grow so that they can stay in their home town and we already have much better infra esp the basics like water, electricity, streetlights, etc. Esp New Town infra is unmatched. Lack is startup culture not there.
Mass recruiters like Amazon, meta, MS not present.
