The IT sector in Kolkata, particularly in the New Town area, is experiencing significant growth with the development of the Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub. This tech hub, covering 250 acres, is currently under construction and is expected to be operational by the end of 2025
The information I have is up to September 2021, so I can provide some insights into the growth of the IT sector in Kolkata up to that point. Keep in mind that the situation may have evolved since then.
Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, has been making strides in the IT sector over the past few years. One of the key developments has been the emergence of New Town as a hub for the IT and technology industry. New Town, located in the northeastern part of Kolkata, has been dubbed "Bengal Silicon Valley" due to the significant growth of IT companies and technology parks in the area.

New Town infra is unmatched and Kolkata infra is much better than many top cities, be it water, electricity, roads, or street lights. We need the right marketing and PR like some of the states. More companies will come eventually by spreading the positivity. I have stayed in Gurgaon and Bangalore for so many years and I know the infra difference, if we want to be biased then its different but otherwise Kolkata has really good infrastructure but lacks marketing and PR and in a way are to be blamed for not doing enough in educating people and spreading the positivity of our city.

A couple of big companies don't mean a city is booming. I'm from Bengal, and I'm gonna speak the facts irrespective of vanity or bias. It's the small companies that actually run the economy, the big companies are a cushion if things go bad. I want Bengal to have more start ups than big businesses. And I'm glad that people understand that making an IT start up hub in Siliguri is far more vital. Siliguri needs to become a metro as soon as possible, not only for West Bengal, but for entire East India, and also for India. It's the gateway to Northeast, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sikkim and even China.

I personally guarantee that the people of Bengal do not want to work in Bengal, they would prefer to work in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Bangalore.
Look at the infrastructure of Delhi, how excellent Delhi is, the cities around it have great connectivity, their connectivity is very good, Jaipur, Chandigarh ,Lucknow, Meerut Agra (both railways and road).
Look at Kolkata, well, go to the big cities of neighboring states like Bhubaneswar, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Patna and Siliguri, see how much time it takes to travel. Is the next expressway correct? No, railway system is needed.

Bro I want to correct you in some places. This much IT industry which will be by 2026 was never ever present here earlier. Even World Trade Centre is under construction which is first time in eastern india. This will boost business a lot. After Fintech City and Bengal Silicon Valley are completed a lot of people from here will not go to other cities because cost of living here is much less.
Next I want to say that Kolkata was developed much before other cities you named. At that time there were not even thinking about this many number of cars, buses, transports, etc. So, the roads were built much narrower. It's diffult to demolish houses of common people who are living there for decades to widen the roads. That's why the roads are like that. Go to modern cities in Bengal and you will see that the roads are far better.

Even West Bengal was inside 10 poorest state which recently came out of if due to free 500/1000 scheme to poors which is not sustainable in long run. So better to develop the state using infra and industry. UP is taking the hard path and will show better results in long run.

Almost all the youths graduated from reputed universities like JU, IIT KGP, NIT DGP, IIEST Shibpur etc. are going to other states for jobs. The startup culture is pathetic here. Salaries are so low. No big companies and industries want to come here and invest because of poor infrastructure, political violence, corruption and anti-industrial mindset of govt. This govt never saw any Bengal outside Kolkata. Never bothered to develop the rest of Bengal. People are fool. When IT Companies are spreading out in tier 2 and tier 3 cities, obviously they will try to find land at cheaper price. Hence the boom in Newtown, as IT companies have found some amount of land at cheaper price. And people who visted kolkata atleast once know that newtown has limited land, and ends at Rajarhat which is again poorly planned. So not much hopeful about Kolkata, as it is densely populated, with poor urban planning and toxic political culture
You are the one who is the fool. Its not like every company is going to build huge campuses. Some are going tall now. Plus its not just Newtown, there are other potential regions of growth too.
