I used to be a scout master, many years ago. There were always a couple of boys in the troupe whose parents would spend too much on top of the line equipment. I would find mine at garage sales, or repurpose things around the house. And then I would brag about how cheap my gear was. That way the kids who couldn't afford the expensive stuff didn't feel like second class citizens.
Great video. I think a lot of people spend too much money unnecessarily. They also pair down there stuff in lieu of comfort for no reason. Camping should be cheap and comfortable.
I agree, I am really bad at overpacking, and have some not great gear that I use simply because I spent a lot of money on it ha haha. The last couple years I have really started to streamline my setup though.
Nice kit list. You’re right. You don’t need a lot of gear and you can keep the cost down, especially in the summer. It’s just a case of test your gear in your back yard so you know how it all works and get out there. Oh. Let someone know your plans about where you’re going, route and due back time. This and what to do if you run into a problem could be a life saver! 👍🇬🇧
Awesome. I have been wanting to go on a solo camping trip with my motorcycle for a while now. Been afraid of doing things alone but I’m trying. After coming across your page randomly then finding out you do camping trips with your motorcycle alone tells me it’s a sign to do it while the weather is warm. Thanks again man great video
Ha ha Awesome! It is a different type of adventure, you can feel very exposed... but I find it exhilarating, much different than truck/rv style camping. I say go for it, start small/local if it feels more comfortable and helps you get your setup dialed in and get a feel for what is comfortable. Warm weather is the best time to start, less sleeping gear and clothing to have to worry about.
I’ve used my fair share of old heavy gear, but slowly over 30 years I’ve been able to upgrade several things. Some of the gear out now is ultralight and crazy expensive. Definitely do your research before buying anything expensive. Budget gear has served many of us for a long time.
I’m using a glow in the dark Nalgene water bottle to store my coffee grounds. I’d like something a little lighter but that’s the only thing I could think to use. Its waterproof and a pack of Starbucks at the grocery store fits just fine inside it. I use the same coffee drip system as you. I actually have 2 of them for different kits. lol 😂 I’m pretty much waiting for the Fall. I’d go camping but this is prime mosquito 🦟 🦟 season. We have been getting lots of rain in New Hampshire this year. I need colder temperatures and longer nights for my favorite camping spot. 👍🏻
Nice, love the java drip have several as well! In my truck kit I have a large peanut butter jar I use for coffee, works great, light and the price is excellent ha ha ha!
