  • The Swedish military mess kit Enmanskök Kokkärl M40 with Svea Trangia alcohol burner - good piece of outdoors equipment you need when cooking over a campfire is the only option.
The Swedish military mess kit Enmanskök Kokkärl M40 consists a windshield, a methanol burner and an alcohol flask.
The brass methanol burner made by Svea uses alcohol or tenol. It can burn up to one half hour which is enough to cook a meal and a cup of coffee/tea. However, though always carried in the field, the burner was seldom used as food was normally cooked in a field kitchen.
The top part of the mess kit set could be used as a small pan or simply as a lid for the lower pot portion of the tin. The handle of the pan/lid has two folding "D" rings that enable it to be lifted with the aid of a stick when it gets too hot to touch or when placed over fire. There is a hook on the bail so that the tin can be suspended over a fire as well. The volume of the pot is 1.5 liter while that of the is 0.75 liter.

I think the stainless steel Swedish mess kit is the finest mess kit on the planet. I have two of them I bought years and years ago. A bit heavy admittedly, but bomb proof.

    Beautiful video! Just Beautiful.
There is a way to lock the handle away from the pot using the hook. Keeping it away from the burner flame. That's what the other little notch I the handle is for.
All the best and take care. Looking forward to see more 😃

You probably should look from ebay or army surplus stores. But nowadays they tend to be a bit too expensive

I use my original ss version but i swapped out the Aluminium windshield & replaced it with the new ss pathfinder one so now i can have a small fire around the windshield & cook on top of it

I notice that your burner is badly oxidized. Fuel should never be stored in the burner. Alcohol binds water to itself, and the burner is damaged as a result of the combined effect of combustion waste from bad fuel.

Indeed, you right, fuel should never be stored in the burner
