Simple. Don't sign up to any data harvesting scemes, and boycott anywhere that uses them. Co op rolled out two tier pricing a couple of years ago. Its my nearest shop. (the only supermarket in the village). I haven't bought a single thing from any branch of co op in 18 months now. The indian family owned corner shop gets my business now.
Fair comment - I did chuckle when i had a short time working for a supermarket - customers said they didn't use reward cards as didn't want to be tracked... then paid on card using a smart phone...
Same happened to my wife a few years ago. All her points for Xmas were spent in a Sainsbury’s and Argos 70 miles away . Nectar promptly reinstated the points so that was good but now as soon as she has £5 worth she cashes in , no more saving up to be robbed.
Happened to me. Went to check my points balance online, and found that someone had spent about £2.50 in a Sainsbury’s Local in Cambridge, and I’m in West Sussex! I only ever use my card in my local Sainsbury’s and it never leaves my wallet.
Couple of points Don’t beat yourself up re the warning sign, I had 500 points stolen, I was home so contacted nectar right away and was told my card had been blocked, 2hrs later the rest were stolen!! After this happened to my mother 2 years ago I decided to spend the points through the year & put the cash (yes cash, shocking) I’d saved in a jar to spend at Christmas, so all I lost when my points were stolen was £10. The thieves target this time of year as they know lots of people save their points to spend now, complete low lives.
For ppl who have had a card for years, they don't have the app and rely on the till receipt to check the balance. the small spend you mentioned then goes un-noticed and only the big one is seen next time you shop. We hadthis last week and the £25 had been taken Nov 20th in manchester, 150 miles away. nectar are now investigating after we called them.
Cheers for the warning, although they'd be disappointed with my Nectar balance as i take the points off the card as soon as i earn them! Hope you get the points back in time for Christmas!
Thanks for the heads up, perhaps Nectar should change to a simalar system as T with vouchers. Hope it hasn't spoilt the festive season for you too much.
They are doing the small spend to get a receipt that tells them how many points you have I think. Then they can hit the large holders for the maximum amount possible.
Happened to me last month. Noticed £2.50 spent in London. Straight on to nectar who cancelled card, reissued another and reimbursed the points. Took a couple of weeks but they could see it was fraudulent as I only spend locally. I didn’t know how this could have happened but your video explains it really well. Perhaps they should verify before spending points
I had this happen to me today aswell, over £120 and the £1 spend was in the same place as yours then second was up in Scotland, I to missed the first one as it went to spam folder then 1hr later bam, the full was, Nector said the same to me but upto 28days to transfer to new account
About a year back I noticed the Saisnburys receipt had -£120.00. I was confused, how can it be minus?. After phoning nectar they said someone had used all the points on the card THREE times with a few mins - but I still have the card. This was in Putney & I dont live there ! Anyway got them back, but from now on never let it get above £15 before spending them. Wont be scammed again (I hope)
Exactly the same thing happened to me. I believe the cashier in my local Esso garage somehow took an impression of the barcode on the back of the card using a hidden camera. The next day, lo and behold, £120 worth of points were spent at a branch of Sainsbury's 150 miles away.

Starting the think that's what we will do, system really doesn't seem that secure.

Good luck!
Good one Trev I hope the warning spreads out there
It’s the first time I have found a local UA-camr that’s so close to me 😂. Brilliant videos as I’ve binge watched them all now. Keep them coming
Awesome! Thank you! Say hi if you see me at a show making a nuisance of myself 😂
@ oh i definitely will

You think there would be a second layer of security (like a text code) if it was over say £5

How do you check for fraudulent use of your nectar card ?
Glad you recovered your funds. Great use of your platform 👍
Yes! Thank you!

Sorry to hear that - if the £1 spends are happening in the same place you might think Sainsburys might have CCTV of who it is!
Thank you for the warning. 🙏

Wow! With the distance between the £1 test purchase and the big spends I wonder if the details are being sold on?
Nice one 👍
Don't keep too many points on your card ideally too.
Good tip!
Say no to two-tier pricing !!
Gets my vote!
Good heads up just sent this to the wife.
Supermarkets make a fortune from selling your data and watching your activities. Never ever use points cards, it's a scam in itself
