Cheating boils down to lack of character. All the excuses and "science" is just blowing smoke. If you make a commitment, keep it. All the wealth and/or fame one can achieve means nothing. The only thing you take with you to whatever's next is your word, and if your word ain't worth a shit, neither are you.

The science is bunk. You would have to have an entire population under the threat of isolation and destruction in order to use things like "species survival" and as far as "Darwinian payoffs"? Darwin did not get too involved in stuff like that and the same types of arguments were used to justify incestuous family dynasties among ruling families of the past. Now, they just pawn some of these things off to freedom to express your sexuality.

Because essentially they are not very nice people and selfish. There is no excuse or reason. Adulterers have many reasons and excuses but then again, they would. It’s about the worst thing you can do to a partner. Just leave the relationship and then you can do what you like. Yes, it really is that simple regardless of any circumstances. Cheaters will always find reasons and excuses and blame. That’s what dishonest, lying, deceitful and unfaithful people do. They make the choice to cheat. It’s all on them.

As a stripper I’ll say this… some people cheat because they’re so drunk and high on drugs that they just stupidly act on sexual instinct and then they wake up the next day remorseful. Get drunk enough… and you’ll start acting really dumb.

Fully satisfied in a shared life immersed in a depth of consideration leading to intimate unity and companionship verses a unarticulated restlessness driven by A
Sense that something is lacking or that One may be missing out on something. The chase for something more ….and the “more always being evaded will ultimately leave One feeling empty and alone…..

Since love is a deception practiced by nature,
marriage is the attrition of love, and therefore must be disillusioning.

OK. Genetics does NOT determine behavior. You can point to the science of cheating all you want, it comes down to choice and morality.

Choice and morality are dictated by our brain and brain is itself influenced by genetics. For ex psychopath can be easily found even in stable households. Although this example is extreme. But still play an important roll.

One of my coworkers recently went through a divorce. He said that his ex owned the house and makes a lot more money than him. Plus, they had very little in common. They had no reason to stay together. So that’s totally in line with what these ladies are talking about.

    • @rickhanson3293

Your example mentions a divorce due to lack of commonality and monetary issues. They are talking about adultery across the board. How is that in line with the topic?

Dr. Helen Fisher was my professor at Rutgers University. Before anyone criticizes this 8 minute video and disregards the theories as outdated or don't like what she says because it hits a nerve, perhaps they need to dig deeper into the anthropological studies; they go deeper with actual empirical studies and data than this 8 minute video can provide.

The issue with "polite" society academics is that based on an ethical framework within their socio-cultural-professional constraints they often cannot reveal uncomfortable realities out of fear of social retribution therefore their analysis is often skewed with omission.

Numerous reasons! Change of life and the RUTS we run into. Top two.A Chemical connection with a certain individual . People jump into relationships and commit , when in reality there going through a phase. When the so called HONEYMOON IS OVER, the hunt for a new mate begins in lots of cases.

  • @redbunnytail9528

It's like night n day, a friend, who is more or less monogamous, and someone you talk to, maybe even a lot, who isn't. You're with a pal, who is cool with chicks and dudes. People, who are into scoping for the opposite sex, wherever they are, will leave you alone. And it's like sitting in this 'field' of invulnerability, when you're in public. Any 'intruder' is not allowed in. Course. If you're the opposite and you feel only OK, when you're with dudes and chicks, who are into scoping for opportunities, you would think the opposite. A lot of females and males say that nobody is trustworthy. And until you're sitting with someone, who is, you're right. In your head, you can come up with endless reasons why you are x way or why people are x way. Maybe the biggest 'flaw' in seeking a relationship that will not involve habitual lapses, is that people seek it in the opposite sex, first. You have to have same sex friends, who are into the same thing. That's your base, friendship with cool people. You can't be this hanger on, or needy person, with dudes or chicks, and be this skilled operator with the opposite sex, unless you want to be one of those dudes or chicks, who say everyone's jealous of you. Somethine sketchy about this Dr Helen Fisher.

Sorry, the "perpetuating his genes" theory is outdated. It lacks any foundational support in nature. Nice idea but ideas need to be validated before they become viable theories, otherwise they're just guesses. And guesses need to be discarded with confronted with contradictory evidence.

Megan, I disagree with Helen’s hypothesis. We all have many choices in our life. I truly believe that this choice( adultery) is really a lack of commitment to your spouse and an action based on a selfish impulse. And I’m not partial to being compared to a prairie boule…it seems to me that this is a moral issue. Not through in a judgement out there, just an observation.
