Hi Dereck, just noticed your great summary of Throbbing Gristle and Genesis P Orridge. I also never really bothered with Psychic TV. I saw TG live at the Lyceum, London in 1980, they were a bit disappointing live as I expected a Joy Division like 'life changing event' but then 20 Jazz Funk Greats is such a superb album. Hamburger Lady is actually on that record and yes it is uncomfortable to listen to but they wanted to inflict pain and confrontation through noise on their audience. Take 'Discipline' for instance-it also draws you in and like with gross horror films, you look for/want more. Such an important band in the history of music. Yup. We were saying "This is real" this morning, having observed the rush-to-hoard in our small town and the resultant shortages of things already. This is a mostly rural county with a low population, 13,000 in our town. Fortunately, our lifestyle (and that of many of our creative friends) is inward and already private; we don't depend on others for entertainment and daily meaning. We know how to prepare food from scratch and bake, having always lived check-to-check, we're thankful for 'enough' and have 22 years of experience making things stretch in lean times. Schools here have closed for a month as a mitigation to community transferal, and we are carrying a ziplock bag of [cut-in-half] hand wipes in our cars for when we get gas or have touched public doors, etc. Living has changed in very few ways, actually, but I believe that everyone is beginning to think proactively and are re-assessing their skill sets. Wishing you well while we ride this shitstorm out.
I remember when I was first introduced to them, keep exploring, buckle up & keep your head & hands inside "Thee Mixer" at all times, you are in for one hell of a fascinating ride of exploration.
One thing to note about the cover of '20 Jazz Funk Greats' is that the band were photographed at Beachey Head in Sussex, in England, apparently the area with the third highest total of suicides in the world.

The cover photo of 20 Jazz Funk Greats was taken at Beachy Head - a (in)famous suicide hotspot, where people would jump off the cliff. The first 2 PTV albums were great; especially the track The Orchids form Dreams Less Sweet (1983). But after that Peter Christopherson left along with John Balance who formed Coil, who went on to make much better music than PTV. I still liked Genesis though. Met him a few years ago in London at a Brion Gysin exhibition, where he signed my original United lyric sheet and Force the Hand of Chance LP.

I love this video and what you're sharing here. Hoever, please refer to Gen as S/he and H/er. S/he and Lady Jaye underwent plastic surgery together as part of the pandrogeny (or Pandrogyne) project which sought to have a single being with a shared conscious in two identical bodies. These series of surgeries began long before Lady Jaye passed away. It's really hard for us non-binary and trans folks to get either visibility or respect in the media and being oppressively referred to by our biologically-correlated pronouns is so disheartening. Love and respect to you in this time of fear, isolation, and sickness! Thanks!

Thee lyrics were directly sourced (and spliced) from a written testament by artist Blaster Al Ackerman - who served as a medic in Vietnam, and later in a burn victim unit at a hospital, where he cared for a woman who was scorched from her waist to her face. Thee letter thee lyrics were taken from states: "... By far the worst is the hamburger lady, and because of shortage right now of 'qualified technicians', e.g. technicians who can work with her and keep their last meal down, Screwloose Lauritzen and I have been alternating nights with her, unrelievedly. If you put a 250-lb meatloaf in the oven and the burned it and then followed that by propping it up on a potty-chair to greet you at 11 PM each night, you would have some description of these past two weeks. Which is to say the worst I seen since viet napalms. When somebody tells you that there is a level of pain beyond with the human mind cannot retain consciousness, please tell them to write me. In point of fact this lady has not slept more than 3-5 minutes at a stretch since she came to us - that was over two weeks ago and, thanks to medical advances, there is no end in sight, from the waste up everything is burned off, ears, nose etc - lower half is untouched and that, I guess, is what keeps her alive. I took one guy in to help me change tubes and he did alright, that is alright till he came out, then he spotted one of the burn nurses (pleasant smiling zombies) eating a can of chile-mac at the desk, and that did it; he flashed on the carpet. It is insane is what it is..."

I am a Native American Two Spirit (Transgender). In my Apache Tribe, us Two Spirits are called Nde'Isdzan. The word Nde'Isdzan is older than America. To have proper ceremony there must be a balance of Men & Women to keep bad spirits away. Two Spirits are known for our gift of Balance of Male & Female & for that main reason alone carry that balance within ourselves. Us Two Spirits have long played Vital Roles in our Tribal Communities as Medicine People & Healers. I am a fan of your page but in regards to your comment about it being a Trend. Being Trans or Gender Varied Beings is not a trend nor is it anything new. The New Trend was the Christian Guilt put on Native People & that is carried by many Non-Native People that being LGBTQ2S is wrong. Two Spirits have long existed and were valued in Tribal Communities since Time Immemorial. Two Spirits pre-date the birth of America. Many other cultures have something similar as regards to beings like us. It is definitely nothing new, the only difference is Trans, Two Spirit & Gender Variant beings are getting more media coverage than accustomed to.
Well we also have to remember, Genesis whole deal was not about Transgenderism. in their own words "Some people feel like a man trapped in a womans body & Vice versa, *we felt trapped in a body* "
Joe I don't need anyone to tell me who or what I am. I am Nde'Isdzan (Two Spirit), in saying that - I am honoring my Apache/Guamares Ancestors, passed & current Two Spirits & myself. I don't need to be defined by Eurocentric Labels. I am Native.

At a Skinny Puppy show in Amsterdam bought Puppy Gristle (SP with GPO).
What a ride!
Dave was in Psychic TV. ;)
@@evad520 Dave Ball is very much underrated.
I slung my FREE MEN BEAR ARMS shirt at Gen, who pilaced it on his music stand. - Grand Regency Ballroom, San Francisco, 2009- I touched the sun that night. RIP
Peggy Thomas Executive Director PUFFER CORPS P-orridge was a Cultural Marxist. He was a Pre-opt. Transsexual and a terrible/boring artist both in art and music.
Oh darling i just love your energy. I see the lockdown coming too....
I too see both sides. We’ll never really know the full truth, Youre calm as water. Love it.
Rip genesis....Subbing NOW, my lovey.
Rest In Peace man! Yeah my dad showed me Throbbing Gristle when I was like 10/11 and that was pretty crazy stuff.
Thanks, I learned a new word today. I've been playing djembe for 20 years but had to look up "boucarabou", the name of the larger/bassier drum.
Cool video...thanks.
Thank you for the wonderful video. I am a big fan of Genesis. You are a very progressive person. George Clinton is another progressive person who was involved with the Church of the Final Judgment with Gen.
Wow thanx for sharing! Stay safe.
Love!
The Orchids.....greatest PTV song.
ps. Read Cosey's book; 'Art Sex Music'...really sheds a light on GPO's manipulative nature....very sad.
I had just sent him a text a few days ago, I had no idea he had passed.
This past week I’ve been listening to Psychic TV and TG every day...I’m not a superstitious person, but to learn of this is very strange.
RIP Genesis
Love you, cat...
Stepping over to another plane, free at last

Thanks!
Love the trip-reset record by psychic tv
First, Andy Gill - now Genesis P. Too soon.
Can you please make a separate video about TOPY? There are not much information about this.

Pick up "Thee Psychic Bible," "Sacred Intent," or check out one ov thee numerous GBPO lectures around thee world that have been shared here on YTube. A great documentary is "Change Itself" www.trapartfilm.com/films/change-itself/ as well as "The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye."
Bruv ... that is a solid record collection right there . And yeah , I wouldn´t be surprised people like RZA or even Dre share the same ideas you do , same open mindedness .
this is the best thing
very interresting

What is hamburger last about?
A burn victim.
Wow rip
He has 2 daughters genesse and carresse. They were to his 1st wife Paula. Jackie Breyer was the 2nd and thee love of his life.I know they have been reunited in death.💕🌹
Always thought of Throbbing Gristle as aural S&M....and you know sometimes you just need it....you just do....
"Aural S&M" good term, though it makes E think more ov thee band "SLEƎPCHAMBER
" EƎ than TG, Ǝ hear/see what you are saying. Will mention that term to John (.Z) 丰TЯ23丰
Thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks for Comment.
Marcy you’re a pre.opt transsexual
Well we also have to remember, Genesis whole deal was not about Transgenderism. in their own words "Some people feel like a man trapped in a womans body & Vice versa, *we felt trapped in a body* "
Joe I don't need anyone to tell me who or what I am. I am Nde'Isdzan (Two Spirit), in saying that - I am honoring my Apache/Guamares Ancestors, passed & current Two Spirits & myself. I don't need to be defined by Eurocentric Labels. I am Native.
Genesis P-Orridge... Porridge I finally get the pun. But what does it mean?
Neil megson reinvented himself as Genesis P-orridge.... a genesis is the conception/birth of something, it's also the beginning/ first book of the bible..... porridge is something you have for breakfast, at the beginning of the day.... GPO is general post office here in the uk.... the post office is for sending/ delivering information.....
When gen and cosey got together at the ho ho fun house in Hull cosey said he literally lived on porridge : coincidence ?
@@ianrobb5128 I just read that porridge is what's served in British prison and it's slang for doing time, or "doing porridge". interesting...
Subbed
Few bands have been as politically and sonically adverserial as Throbbing Gristle. They highlighted the hypocrisies and horrors of society in such a visceral way.
Wow. She was terrible.
