Hi MD! I have been through the ringer this year and the one constant I've had is your videos, my partner broke up with me and I had a mental breakdown and your tanks and videos have ( corny to say but) saved my life by calming my mind and giving me something to forget my mess of a life for 20min. I've been watching you for years because I wanted ideas for a tank of my own, life had other ideas. Thank you for helping forget life's troubles.
Glad to have helped you through a tough time. Remember, whenever you are feeling down, observe the feeling, be critical of it as if you are viewing your feelings, and remember that it is temporary. Upward spirals happen as fast as downward spirals. Everything can and will get better ❤ 👍
Yay!! That is so great when you can see a story in an object sometimes. That tank has a history and it's getting an updated version of you put into the tank. So cool!
Love this shallow and long ecosystem build with lots of emergent plants MD... Been loving this series since the earlier days of your channel. Well done!
Love when Sheryl makes an appearance, she seems like a delightful person. And she knows her fish. The scape turned out great, amazing stocking. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely set up. Smashing video. I keep a couple of Corrys and a gorgeous male Betta + a khuli and a few shrimps in my tank great setup . Top advice Cheers .
Petition to change the name of a group of cories to a "cuddle." You've got a cuddle of cories :3 Love this build, I think my next one will be a long tank. I really want to keep some hillstream loaches. IDK what it is about those little pancakes but they're so friggen cute. It would have to be a higher flow river scape, and I'd have a shoal of something since the little pancakes are territorial and are definitely NOT cuddlers lol.
Love this idea. I'm definitely doing a shallow tank for my next build. Hillstreams and CPDs maybe. Maybe rice fish instead then no heater required. Hillstreams prefer cooler water anyway. Idk just spitballing some ideas. Gonna be a while before the wife allows another tank 😂. But MD killed it on this one (as usual) and whatever or whenever I do my next I'll be mimicking his style the best I can.
I used to watch you a few years back but then stopped for some reason. Now I think I’ve watched at least 30 videos in the past week, im addicted again. It’s a blessing to have a new video today 😂
Fantastic tank. The Pantanal not a horrendous price. And the Smudgespot are some of my absolute favorite. Just got a group of 14 of them lost one, but the rest are thriving and the school just as good as pandas. Fantastic tank as usual MD.
❤ brilliant to see this tank back, it was my favourite set up of yours from your small shed days , think the original one was the 1st video I watched. Panda cory's are just too cute.
Love your work md you’ve inspired me over the years with so many builds. Starting a new one tomorrow, so this was perfect timing, little bit more inspiration
I love you going back to your roots. After watching the first video of this set up, I thought I'd like to keep corys some day... now I breed them!! It was fun hearing Kate get excited about the fish at the shop.
You simply never miss! I can’t have any tanks just yet due to my living situation (but I should be able to in about 6 months!!), and I feel way more confident in starting this hobby because of all I’ve learned through your videos. Thanks for being educational and informative in addition to creating crazy beautiful scapes👍
I just want to say your channel is very interesting and enjoyable to watch. I haven't had fish before, but plan to hopefully, and seeing your setups gives me a lot of hope and inspiration.
The lominies lights are the best I've used many different methods over the years even flood lights to expensive bar LEDs but nothing compares to the astas absolutely fantastic light hope the price never changes bc those lights are perfect for us planty tanky lovers lol
Great back-to-the-begining build. I like your aproch towards bottomlayer. I do the same. You were propebly the first I seen doing the, years back. But I also incorperat dryed oak and beech leaves within the bottomlayer. Ala Father Fish. It speeds up building mulch (?). And I am so like you and you wife, so many cute and awesome looking corys. ❤😊
The tank looks fantastic MD, a tip I find when I go fish shopping is take a picture or 2 of the scaped tank with you it is extremely handy to be able to show the assistant what you are scaping and they can get a feel for stocking it as well and also for you to remind yourself again what the layout looks like Tony from Rural Western Australia 🇦🇺🦘
Got recommended this channel definitely subscribing I got a betta cory tank and just about to upgrade size I'm definitely taking inspiration from this ❤
Great video and a really useful way to use a shallower tank. I’ve been fishkeeping over 30 years and I’ve always had Corys in my tank. They are bombproof. My first were Bronze Corys and I had some of them for 5 or 6 years. I also had Corydoras Sterbai, which again, were incredibly easy to keep and long lived. I lost my last one of these earlier this year and he was almost 7 years old! I currently have Panda Corys and they’re great characters always whizzing around the tank. Interestingly I’ve never had sand in my substrate and have never had any problems with their barbels in the gravel. You just need to make sure it’s rounded (pea) gravel and they’re fine IMO.
I've had corys for many years, living on 1/2 to one inch, round river gravel and never had a problem. They love going through the crevices between stones. I think missing Barbels are from infections. Tank looks great.
Love the gold Cories I always thought you had to keep male betas on their own, I just bought a new tank for a beta and he will have some friends. Thanks MD 😊
Man I remember when you were still in your garden shed when I first come across your channel, you were just starting out, with your cat too which always had a cold anyway just tuning in as it's been a while for me, my fish tank has got black beard but I feel it needs changing around abit, it's been the same for 3 years lol! I've come back for fresh ideas!
Hello md fish tank sir please consider this Corydoras are bottom dwelling fishes they need some dither fish to feel comfortable and see that all is well but you haven't added dither fish thats why they are not swimming as much and resring most of the time Tey adding small tetras glow light or cardinals maybe cod or platies will work
Hear me out. Paint the back walls behind your tanks black. This will make the aquariums look even more dramatic and theatrically lit. Love your channel! ❤
Hey- have you considered buying an Oscar and doing a grow out on the Oscar fish - they are one of my favourites and like puppy dogs of the fish world they love when you go to the tank to see them and I think people would love to know more about them- it’s just a suggestion but a good one ❤- also please send a reply with your feelings on it- but they grow super fast and just make amazing fish to keep
Hi MD, lovely build and video, as always. Could you please let us know the dimensions of this tank? I’m doing research and planning for my first tank, once I move into my new home next year, and I’d like to collect relevant videos for reference, it would help to know the dimensions for aquascaping and stocking options etc. thanks!
fun cory fact: the reason they go to the surface is to breath! they swallow air and pass it through their intestines where they have a special organ to take in oxygen
Hi from Portugal. I just started a new tank as your videos reignited this love, and actually bought some lominie lamps, but even though it's not that important, i always wonder if you've ever tried to measure you lighting, not even by PAR numbers, just raw lux, for instance. Your tanks always look so lively and bright. If you could ever do that just for fun and out of curiosity, that would be cool :) thanks!
The way they blend with the environment is something I noted. Perhaps we can all pay more attention to that aspect of the hobby - animals naturally camouflage with their environment as a survival mechanism. Meaning that the plants/aquascape that we house them within should "match" their traits/markings like in nature.

You will love these lights I have 2 on my shrimp tank
Anyone know what pool filter sand he uses?
Video 70 of asking for a tank with some freshwater dolphinfish please.
This tank needed 40 pygmy corys
One of the most beautiful scapes! An identical setup works amazing for Harlequin Rasboras!
Definitely a throwback. The first time you set this tank up, I remember you still had not shown yourself on camera. It's been a fun journey.

Kate is so good at finding all the fish. The gold lasers are so nice.
PLEASE do keep putting the text of the plants names while you’re planting in future videos it’s really helpful 👌🏼
I don't know what it is or why, but this is definitely my favorite tank you've ever done. I LOVE the look of this...
@3:28 what ya watching on the PC?😂😂😂😂 just kidding, awesome video as always!
sometimes the simplest scapes are the most beautiful. like this one... Great work 👍
It's like you read my mind, I was thinking about doing a shallow tank at some point as it is something I've never tried. Great video as always.
Built a great little empire in 6 years.... Lots of hard graft.. congratulations
U r my role modell...by watching you...I also started this hobby
Very lovely! A large group of glowlight tetras would look amazing swimming through all the plants, especially the more shaded areas.
Lovely set up. Smashing video. I keep a couple of Corrys and a gorgeous male Betta + a khuli and a few shrimps in my tank great setup . Top advice Cheers .
I love how you just insert plants and mine ALWAYS come out with the tank tweezers immediately.....AUGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Tanks like this one are my favorites by you. I'm definitely a low-tech, eco tank gal.
That Lighting McQueen was a nice touch.
