People who live in forests, generally will walk them often, for whatever reason. Might be on or near his property. So, good thing for the deer that he happen to be there.

Yup. If you walk a trail, there's a good chance there are abandoned snares left along it just yards off the track. So there's always a chance a pet or wild animal could be caught. Having pliers with a wirecutter can save a life when seconds cound.
