A few years ago I lived in Texas, in a rural area with a very large deer herd. They roamed all over the neighborhood, and some people put out feed for them. I would give them pieces of apples, carrots etc when I had them, but I didn't feel it was a good idea to encourage dependence on my feeding them. I had a large fenced back yard, with a rickety fence that they leapt over easily. They would quite often come to my yard, graze and lie around, relaxing; especially my back yard because it felt safer for them I think. Two deer gave birth in my yard, which was mind-blowing, and the mothers often left their babies in the high grass there while they went off to graze elsewhere. They would approach me so closely at times, my eyes teared up at the beauty of their innocence and trust; but I didn't encourage that either because I know it's best if they don't trust humans too much, but I wanted SO badly to kiss & hug them, never forget that.
My wild suburban whitetail are very discerning of human behavior..it's amazing to understand them, watch them, & see how they respond.. they are very calm and respectful, yet wary..
You are wise to not let the deer get too comfortable with you - it could put them in danger from deer hunters, who they might walk right up to, looking for treats like other humans have given them.
@cathynewyork7918 Also sets up aggressive behaviors amongst animals that are already extremely competitive..can get people hurt & deer "relocated" (euthanized) by DNR/Wildlife Control deptartments... I don't feed deer, yet I have walked alongside and worked alongside, and been embedded with a matriarchal lineage for over 40 yrs, along with other wildlife as a co-equal..they stick around longer than we do in the cafeteria..food is dangerous risk in their day, it's their work..they wolf down & scoot back to safety.. We keep best friends in life lived together, not just meals.. Deer need to eat a broader range of foods than our hands can offer anyway.. They eat better than us, inspired me to eat better!

So many beautiful deer roam my yard. I have rescued so many different animals in my lifetime that most people will never encounter in their lifetime. ✨There is a peace that engulfs us when looking into the eyes of a deer and it is breathtaking!✨

I grew up in the outback of East Africa. Over the years hunters brought us rescued DikDik fawns. We raised three of these little guys..adorable..and still needed to be bottle fed..Once grown..took them back to their habitat.

I visited a home on a small island in BC, Canada, and they also had a mother and 2 fawns that lived on their property and hung around with them, on a daily basis. - followed them around like playful dogs. They were completely free to go wherever they wanted, but they made their home with them by choice.
I like the interaction between humans and wild animals. I feel these wild animals should be fed only with food that they are accustomed to thrive in wilderness, so that they remain strong and immune to disease. They'll also be able to survive in your absence and live independently in their natural habitats.
This is really adorable❤. But one thing I can’t shake off is the fact that deer carry ticks that can spread Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses. When deer come close to humans, pets, and indoor spaces, the risk of tick exposure rises significantly. Is this type of interaction safe?
No, it is not safe. There wasn't a single mention of tics, and I watched over half the video. Irresponsible, quite frankly. Lyme disease can steal your life away.

While it's fun that wild deer have a tame reaction to these folks in their backyards, my history of interacting with wild deer is it came out of someone's backyard into the street and cost me one GMAC Denali Acadia as it flew up my hood into the windshield.
BTW, mamma deer do leave their fawns for hours at a time while they get food so they don't pick up her scent. I do hope those well-meaning people didn't bring the fawn in when mamma was about to come feed them!
This reminds me of the time when my grandma found a baby deer in her garden, and she brought him inside. She showed the little deer to me and my mom, and luckily, I got to see him up close!! Then, she filmed a video of the deer and her neighbour's cat playing around the neighbourhood!!🐱 It was so cute!! I miss that deer!!😢🦌💖

My father's friend had a farm and rescued a fawn who's mother was killed on the road. When the dear was a juvenile they would play. The deer antlers were growing. He was in the enclosure bent over near the water trough and the deer gored him from the back puncturing his lungs and killed him. The deer was just playing. Never forget they are wild animals.
We used to raise Red Deer and Elk U must be careful when he gets his spike antlers he can really hurt U he thinks he’s playing when he butts U but then antlers are called widow makers for a reason They are a lot of fun just watch the spikes
Deer can be very tender!!! My aunt, who lived on a farm raised a deer, he came & went from her house & stayed each night in the house…they loved him 👍🙏♥️
