Several months ago I fell ill and was unable to exercise completely which really put a spanner in the works for my training and how my body felt and looked. I thought it would be a great opportunity to show how to get back on track in a healthy and intuitive way... or so I thought!

I've been doing gymnastics for ten years and I had several small injuries down the road, but last July I injured my back from overstressing. It took until October to heal and it was a miracle that I was able to start at a really important competition with my team. I felt guilty and frustrated all the time, but especially in training. I still don't have all of my skills back and probably will never have, but I am so thankful to being able to move again without suffering from pain. I just wanted to share my journey, so maybe somebody that is in a similar situation, is able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hard times make you stronger! ❤️

As someone with chronic pain, it is frustrating to not know what will cause a set back and see others do “normal” activities that you can’t. But honestly, take it slow and know that this will pass. There are brighter days ahead of you and your recovery mental as well as physical health is what’s important. So take that bubble bath or simply sit outside and soak in the sunshine that you’ve been meaning to do. Strive to get better!! We all believe in you!!

I was watching this while I was battling with my anxiety again and it really calmed me down, knowing that I'm not alone and it's perfectly normal to experience emotional roller coasters helps me understand that that's just part of the beautiful process.
Thank you Lucy for showing us your vulnerability and honesty. I wish you all the best with your recovery. 🌻

Thank you SO MUCH for being real. I feel like I experience constant setbacks as soon as I start trying to come back from a previous setback (tennis elbow, pinched nerve, ankle sprain, you name it) . It's a bit comforting to know it isn't just me that this happens to. Looking forward to the rest of your journey - I think it will be inspiring for many. Hang in there and be well 😊

Thank you so much for this video. I got diagnosed with crohns disease 2 years ago. Before the diagnosis I was running 5 days a week, doing so much other exercise as well. I'm now 2 stone heavier after all my operations and steroid treatments. I'm finally ready to try and get back to being fit and healthy. I was so weak at one point I could barely wash/dress myself. As a mother of 2 this was obviously devastating. Please keep posting 😊. Nice to see an actual influencer being really honest about set backs x

I ruptured my ACL 2 years ago in a football match. Came back last August from it, had about 2 months until I reinjured myself in a tackle that went very wrong. I ruptured my meniscus, cartilage as well as cracking my kneecap . My surgeon told me I’ll never play football or contact sports again...I’m only 16. Over lockdown I started focusing on weights and resistance training, low impact of course. I feel so much better and I’m ready for my operation x

You can read my mind! Been off tracking, exercises, eating well, even drinking water for about 2 weeks now. But it's the 1st, it's back to work for me full time, it's sort of the start of a new year for me (school year) so now is the perfect time! In my head I'm starting from scratch (I'm not starting fully from scratch but it helps with motivation) I have a new diary I can log everything in and I'm ready to do this 💪💪 This week I'm focusing on hitting my calories again, drinking water and getting my steps in. Plus I will be starting your program (which I got a couple months ago 🙈) on Monday. New school year new start!!! ❤

Hey, great video, thank you for putting it out. I am having an undifferentiated autoimmune disease and I don't take medication because it does not help me at all with my symptomes, but then I am all the time fatigue, having pain in some of my muscles and joints and never ever have enough energy to do all the things what I would like to do.
So literally ever day for me, it is kind of difficult to be on track so seeing that I am not the only one struggling from time to time, helps me staying positive. Thank you.

Caffeine was a real killer for me. It drove me to feel great and do more but without providing the real energy, strength or fitness/condition I needed to work or even live. That drove me to eat more carbs and eventually to have mental problems (irritability, depression, mood swings, panicky feelings, etc) from the effect of the caffeine and the simple carbs. The key word here is "drove". It wasn't natural and while it helped me live a life I and other people expected, it was because of fake mental stimulation, not real energy, strength or growth. I finally got into a state of "caffeinosis". I had to realize that the real energy my body needed to live, move, heal and feel truly good came from food, rest, wholesome activities, etc...NOT caffeine. It is a liar, like alcohol! Stopping it was the hardest thing I have ever done (harder than other drugs, alcohol, sugar, etc) and I had a physical and energy crisis about 2 months after stopping it, as it finally cleared out of my system. But I am so much healthier now without it.
I don't think we have any real idea what some of the substances do to our bodies and immune systems because they are so attractive and of such importance to the economy. I have had to change my ways of thinking based on truth and not what I "feel". It is so rewarding though!
Just sharing this in case it may help someone else. We are all unique, though! I just had to learn to look realistically and make some hard changes when it was "time" to, out of necessity and knowing what my body needed, not what my mind, lifestyle and other people did, wanted or expected. Thank you for the transparency and detailed accounts in the video here! They are so helpful to get a handle on how to recover and keep growing and moving forward after a period of stalemate or regression. It is so important to listen to our bodies and learn from them as we progress.

I just watched your video on how you got into calisthenics. I love the passion you have and I can relate with you on many levels. In the end you mentioned that you had a herniated disc in your back and that you were currently injured. I think that was about 6 months ago so my guess is that you are still dealing with your injury. I’m typing this this video plays so I’m hearing you talk a lot about mindset and the frustration you’ve been feeling because of your injuries, your lifestyle isn’t reflecting the person you feel you are inside.
I specialize in human kinetics, posture and restorative exercise, nutrition, and exercise psychology (body image focused). I have a degree in psychology and health and exercise science and hold multiple advanced certifications. Since I became a personal trainer over 15 years ago, I saw so many people struggle with their bodies- it was never just as straightforward as simply diet and exercise. I have been searching to understand how it all works together ever since. Our bodies and minds are so deeply interconnected and I see that you recognize that. I also see you hurting and I want to help you. I’m not sure what kind of recovery you are in or if you have seen a physical therapist but there are some super basic changes you can make throughout the day with your posture that will have a huge impact on your recovery. Both the disc and the sciatica are issues that can be caused caused by anterior pelvic tilt and rib flare (things that I know all about because I struggle with them myself). I noticed in that other video I watched that you have some of the same characteristic signs of APT, the same ones I had, and that’s really good news because it’s totally fixable and it could potentially make all the difference for your recovery. Anyways, I just wanted to share that with you- I hope you feel better soon and if you have any questions or would like some more info, I’m happy to help.

Hi Marisa, Thank you so much for such a thoughtful and caring comment. I agree with your assessment and I will definitely have a look at assessing my APT and rib flare. The injury has recovered a lot but it is by no means healed yet. Your knowledge, research and passion. I really appreciate you taking the time to share so much information and would love to touch base in the future to find out more about what you do! It sounds fascinating x

@@lucylismore I’m so happy to hear that you are making progress with your injury and I’m glad that I didn’t offend you. I didn’t want to come across as rude or anything. Every person on this planet has imbalanced movement patterns, and often we’ve been doing them for so long with zero awareness that they become fixed and automatic. But unfortunately the longer we have them, the worse they get and the body is thrown off postural equilibrium, which usually results in injury. ATP and rib flare do more than set us up for spinal injury though. Because the ribs aren’t lined up over the pelvis, the diaphragm can’t properly kick off the sequence of core activation. Without the activation of the deep core muscles like the transverse abdominis, your body is forced to use other muscles in an attempt to stabilize the trunk- usually the already tonic low back extensors, psoas, and lats. And that is only going to reinforce and strengthen the imbalanced movement patterns and set you up for more injury. It’s a vicious cycle- lol. I even found that my breathing was altered because my diaphragm wasn’t in the correct position and I was breathing into my chest.➡️is terrible for the nervous system➡️makes you stressed and disrupts endocrine sys ➡️alters the chemistry of your brain➡️ negatively affects emotional state. I could go on and on...but don’t worry I’ll leave it at that. It’s a lot, I know.
They don’t teach you this stuff when you get your pt certificate but they really should! I was so relieved when I finally understood why all these things were happening to me and it gave me awareness I needed to make the necessary changes and allowed me to take control instead of feeling like life was happening to me, you know? The best part is that now i get to help others recover so they can change their lives as well! It’s so amazing. If you ever have any questions or need me to point you in the right direction, just let me know. Im happy to help.
PS- I think all the stuff you’ve accomplished through calisthenics is SO amazing! It makes me want to start. ☺️

This is the video I need! 3 months since my last workout (injured) and somehow gained 15 lbs! I’m at loss how to start losing weight, 10mins in a HIIT or even just running I’m out of breath.
Also I have adult eczema/chronic atopic dermatitis so when you said you had psoriasis, I could sort of relate because sometimes I have to pause all other things in my life just so I can focus on my skin/get it back on track. But then again when I didnt exercise for the last 3 months, I felt like that + bad eating habits took a toll on my skin.

My strategy is to start with steady low intensity cardio and yoga to understand where your body stands. Up the ante with some mid level pilates when you’re comfortable. You can go about modifying durations until you feel more at ease with your body and its range of movement 😊. You’ll be up doing hiit and weights in good time. Do not skip recovery days.

Before taking the shots he would use topical creams as well as doing a AIP diet for a year and saw a lot of improvement but after we moved he went back to eating whatever and his psoriasis was spreading over large amounts of his body, so we went to trying shots.

Unfortunately the adverts you see are chosen by google and are different for everyone. I remember when I saw the advert myself I was a bit disappointed because I feel like often products like that are the sort of thing adds to the confusion in weight loss and health. Perhaps it has its uses to some people, I’m really not sure, but personally I don’t like products like that for multiple reasons and definitely don’t think they are necessary in any way!
