Thank you for making both videos, and showing that it's not always perfect. Cant wait to chase down a nose cone and linkage for my 2002. Thanks again for recording, I'm sure it didn't make things any easier, but your going to help alot of people!
Absolutely brilliant video. I am doing this to mine at the weekend. Was going to swap the whole t case but I will just swap the front like you have. Fingers crossed it goes smoothly 😮
Got lucky on my 00 and already had the cdl on the t-case so all I had to do is install the shifter and linkage. I was able to find a disco 1 at the junk yard with everything and bolted right up to mine, even the dash light worked when engaged. Nice work on yours 🤙🏻
Thanks for uploading this Video, exactly what I'm looking for! @18:40 there are 2 switches instaled on the right. The left(front) one is connected to the diff lock switch, but what about the right (rear) one, with the original plug still on it? Later in the Video it seems, just the left (front) one is connected to the harnes...
@@fitzventure Thank you! Thats good to know. It is not possible to find a partnumber for the second switch, do you maybe remember if the switches are the same? But I think if you connected just the front one and got no problems with TC so far it should be fine...
Your video is a lifesaver. I got a CDL nose cone from a scrap yard. Only question I have is about the wiring. What connector is that from that you tapped into? Going to try and install it next weekend
I’m struggling with the indicator lamp. Finished installing everything, but my front housing has 2 sensors to wire not 1 like yours. I tried both after doing the wiring trick you showed and neither sensor lights up the dash indicator. Also, the RAVE manual says that the ABS is supposed to turn off traction control when CDL is engaged - does wiring the dash lamp make this happen? Sorry I know this vid is old but you’ve been real helpful.
Mine actually had 2 sensors as well. I only wired 1 though. Could be that your sensor/switch is bad. I don't think that switch controls the traction control. I know for sure that my traction control works with or without the CDL engaged.
Thanks for the reply. I was able to narrow it down to a bad switch. It’s good to know it doesn’t deactivate the traction control when engaged, the manual is confusing on that.
Great video. This has helped me tremendously on the same project. I have an 02 and also an 04 parts donor. The only question I have is on my CDL shifter/cable assembly off of the 04. It has a wire running from the shifter right behind the plunger that runs with the cable and plugs into a harness above the transfer case. Did you run into that on your installation? Or have any idea where it goes or if its needed? Thanks .
I think I did have that and it plugged into something on top of the t-case. You will have an extra CDL switch that's not really need on the 04 nose cone. There's 2 switches on the 04, you really only need 1.
Hi there. Had CDL internals and linkage installed in my UK D2 2004 model a couple of weeks ago. I think mechanic has attached gearbox temp sensor wiring to the diff lock switch on transfer case (black and green wire) instead of diff lock warning light wire (black and blue). I notice the gearbox temp warning light comes on when diff lock is activated. So I think I have to do same mod as you to get warning light working - could you let me know where you downloaded instructions from please ? Would be super helpful, thanks 🙏 😊
@@fitzventure hello! Just to say thanks to your superb instructions I got mine working. A couple of things I did different to you: I didn’t want to cut any wires so I bought a scrapyard connector from transfer box harness, removed a pin and added in pin / wire to the relevant connector which connects with the black and blue wire from loom, then goes down to diff lock switch. Also I used the black earth line from the gearbox temp wiring (which are now redundant) as the earth for the diff lock (meaning I didn’t need to make an earth). Thanks again!
Glad to hear you're getting something out of it. If you only had to remove your old nose cone and install a CDL equipped one, I would say a weekend. Probably like 2 days of 8 to 10 hours from start to finish.
@fitzventure I bought the shifter from Lucky 8. It pops out of High gear while driving. I also tried the 04 shifter and it goes into Hi/Low but not diff lock. The shifter does move left to right when disconnected so I know it's not seized
Don, Thanks so much for the video! I really apprechiate the time and effort it mad e to make this. I have a 02 and need to swap a CDL in. Do you know if I can swap in a CDL nosecone into my 02 transfer case and be good or do I need a entire CDL transfer case?
If you're missing the CDL internals on the T-Case, you'd just need to swap the nose cone like I did in the video. No need to swap the T-Case unless you find a better/newer one.
Big thank you for your video!.. just changed my transfer box for a diff lock one and your wiring solved my problem with the no light on the dash!!!
Keep filming and keep updating us as discovery owner
Thanks alot man

your 2002 should have cdl already

I bought a complete defender transfer case just to get the nosecone off for my D2, 2002! Thanks for the video and document.
I’m here from the forum. Thanks for the help and all the info. Great stuff 👍
No problem. Glad it helped.

Trying to remember. I think the connector for the CDL light on the t-case came with my nose cone.
Would swapping transfer cases not have been easier?
I considered that but it would have been much, much more difficult. Plus, the donor transfer case had 100k more miles on it than mine.
Do you have that manual that you printed during the installation?
I don't have it anymore. Sorry.
