I just pour my mixture into an 8x8 parchment lined dish, let it cool completely, then cut it into 1x1 inch squares. So much easier then dropping by spoon fulls!
We call these "Jimmy cookies" at my house, after my brother who dearly loved these. He would make a batch at any time of day or night. We lost Jimmy at 34 years of age, so your video brought tears to my eyes.
My brother Norm was the only one in the house who could make divinity cookies ! RIP. We would each come home from school and make our faves, enough for everyone to enjoy !
I had those for the very first time when my family moved to Virginia a lady from the church made them. In that area they were called preachers cookies . They will set up just as well on wax paper and the thing to make note is if it's very humid they will take a lot longer to set up and you may even need to set them in the refrigerator to finish setting. Brings back a lot of good memories.❤
This is the first cookie I ever learned to make. We called them Candy Cookies, and they are so good! I loved Momma Joyce, too, and her husband died this year. Marshall now has the house and is continuing the show as Country Boy Cooking. He still puts up her videos.
For 50 yrs minus the few before I was old enough to cook...when I'd try to make these, they were ate from a bowl!!!!!! I haven't tried in the last 10, because like you I just got tired! Thank you thank you! I did it for the first time today! 2 batches were PERFECT!!!
I tried these and failed numerous times as well. Mine were always crumbly. Then I found a recipe almost identical to the one you made, and I finally succeeded. This is one of the best, most classic cookies out there! I love your videos! Thanks for sharing so much cooking expertise!
I watched Mama Joyce for years and was also watching through her illness. She was such a witness for the Lord and I know she is in Heaven now. It was so nice of you to talk about her and her recipe. Her son Marshall has a channel now and I hope he sees your video. I know it would warm his heart. ☺️ I am going to try to make these again. Our grand kids will love them. You and your wife are a great team. ❤
I was born in 1952, me, my Mom and her niece went to the State Fair of Texas together when I was 6 years old. I remember sitting on a grassy area called the Esplanade. We made these cookies to take with us to enjoy. Then, I made these and won a first place ribbon for these in 4th grade for 4-H. Such good memories. I'm enjoying your videos.
I have made these for over 50 years. I do leave out the peanut butter (for those with allergies). Sometimes I add a little coconut. Really good. I always loved watching mama Joyce. And loved how she shared Jesus.
I also try to make them without peanut butter. Mine usually fail and i have to make a second batch to get it right. I dont make them often enough to remember how to get it right the first time. I’ve written down what i do but always second guess myself. Can you tell me how long you boil the mixture before you add the oatmeal?
Ps… i do know that if you add the peanut butter you don’t have to cook them as long. I’ve never beat the mixture either, that’s another consideration. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you for sharing. Yes I watched Mama Joyce. Her son is Marshall. She was awesome. I remember when they broke the news about her passing. It broke my heart. She was a sweet little lady.
I too made these cookies years ago as a teenager and we loved them! Since I love raisins I would scoop the majority of the cookies onto parchment paper without raisins, then to the remaining cookies still in the saucepan I sprinkled in a few raisins and proceeded to scoop those out. Let’s face it, who doesn’t love a good oatmeal raisin cookie? Raisin haters can still get their cookies from the first scoops . Tom and Melissa thank you very much for all your hard work, your growing subscribers prove that you are doing all the right things. Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas. God Bless you❤️❤️
I too gave up on making these dark evil mounds of sugar. 50+ years I tried. I was FINALLY able to make them when I saw a youtuber make some with a THERMOMETER!!! 230° is the sweet spot. Hallelujah! I finally made a perfect batch of no bake cookies 2 months ago!! Someone earlier mentioned putting them in a pan and cutting them. I'll try it that way next. Thanks for the video!
I remember eating the old fashioned fudge with a spoon many times as a child. I am 65 now. My mom used the drop in the water method to see if it was done!! Haha!
SAME. SO FUNNY 😂😂😂😂 ROFL!!!! I've just started to get it right. Two minutes is the trick! You can even add more pb, and I think I even use 3c of oats, but nothing matters as much as the 2minute boil.
i just foun d mamma jocye channel and was watching videos and then found out she had passed on to heaven. i loved to listen to her cook and talk about her family . i love these cookies
I just loved momma Joyce .... she is who got me started in watching these videos. ❤God bless her!! Tom, you came in 2nd. Thank you, so very much. You and Melissa are the perfect team! Although, only once did these cookies NOT turn out for me, these are a favorite. Blessings to you both this holiday season. 🌲❄🎅
When my daughter was in first grade somewhere around 1979, her teacher sent home the recipe for Mrs Wiley’s fudge. Mrs Wiley’s fudge was these cookies. We went along for years making them as Mrs Wiley’s fudge. I collect cook books from schools, churches, etc. I was quite taken back when I came across the recipe for the no bake cookies, surprise. My daughter and I enjoy your show.
Been making these since I was a little girl. My family call these Mud Cookies. We still make these, us 4 kids are in our 60's.(our age and oldest is 70y.o.).🎄💖
This No Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies recipe looks so delicious 😋 Mr. Tom. I've made lots of no bake dessert recipes in the past, and they've all been a huge success with my family.
This is my mom's exact recipe that she used for many, many years! I've made it many times over the years, too. They're always perfect! We call them chocolate oatmeal goodies. ~ Mrs. C.
Mamma Joyce Was A Great Lady & Fantastic Southern Cook! Her Son Marshall Is Carrying On Mammas Cooking Traditions! Thank You Tom & Melissa For All Of Your Great & Handy Recipes! 🎉
Made these most of my life as well as family & friends. Just a couple of differences. Never sifted dry ingredients. Always used 3 cups oats. My sister-in-law used to add a tablespoon of marshmallow fluff. So creamy. Also the rolling boil was for one minute but never strictly adhered to that. Your cookies are beautiful. Well done!😀 Oh also you can leave out the cocoa & make peanut butter cookies.
To make sure the cookies don't come out crumbly you add a little brown sugar to replace the equivalent whute sugar. Just a fourth cup of brown instead of that measurement of white sugar. It makes them so good.
I was born in 1958 and my mother made these about once a week for all 5 kids. It was, frugal, quick, easy, and absolutely delicious! Thanks for the memories 🥰
I have to tell you I did exactly from the time you started talking to the time you finish this video I had to do the same thing you did and I had to get on there and watch a lady from a cooking show do this and it turned out perfect.
I loved watching Mama Joyce. She was so sweet. My heart 💔 was broken when she passed. I'm so glad her son Marshall continued cooking her dishes for everyone. I love watching him also. Your channel reminds me of the 2 of them so sweet and caring. I'm thankful I found your channel. Y'all are one of my favorite channels to watch.
Momma Joyce's easy country cooking was my favorite since Justin Wilson had passed. I love her recipes and I use them all the time. 2 and 3 ingredient recipes are my favorite.
I have always LOVED these cookies, but never tried to make them myself. Today, I took the plunge! Thank you for the great cookie training! They turned out GREAT!!!
Really enjoy watching you guys. So great. Love these and brings back memories of over 40 years ago. I worked with a lady, rest her soul, and she made these for me all the time! Thanks
Thanks for this recipe! I have made it many times, but never knew if it was going to work. Sometimes they came out perfect, and sometimes they never set up or were a crumbly mess. My kids (now adults) were just talking about them, when they were here a few days ago. They will be so happy for me to make them again. Thanks again! I enjoy watching your videos and am happy that you are doing the 12 days of Christmas. God bless both of you.
Awesome recipe! Yours is the only one I've been able to complete correctly and I like you grew up eating those. FYI to the other readers if you don't have parchment paper you can turn the shiny side down on aluminum foil and get away with that. Also, if you're in a hurry skip to 2:45
I have been making these since I was a teen. I use 1 cup of peanut butter and 3 cups of oats, all other amounts are the same. I always go with 1 minute of a Rolling boil. Great cookie!
These were some of my mom’s favorite cookies to make and to eat. She could whip them up in no time at all. Liz and I are enjoying your 12 Days in Christmas, so thanks Tom and Melissa❣️
My husband and I love watching your channel! I've tried several of your recipes. Most recently, white bean chicken chili. YUM! We're also enjoying your 12 days of Christmas. Thank you and God Bless!
I do not have enough words to express how this video touched my heart. I made these a few days ago and they brought tears to my eyes! We all have that person who hung the moon well, these tasted just like hers!! Thank You Tom and Melissa for the afternoon of memories that flooded in!!
Hi Tom, I'm sure enjoying your recipes. I've made these cookies for years. Sometimes I make peanut butter no bake just by leaving out the cocoa. Merry Christmas to you Melissa!
I have never made these because I am NOT a good baker but I am going to give the items and then go for it. 😊 Thank you so much!! Wishing you and yours a very Blessed Christmas and give God all the Glory.
Thank you so much for explaining a ‘rolling boil’ Made these and turned out perfectly! I’m 63 and walking home from school a lady in our neighborhood had a ‘Good News’ club and made these! Not only was I excited to see a bible story using a flannel board and characters, I ate these cookies for the first time! Such a great childhood memory. Now I don’t have to waste a batch before they turn out right. Love you both. Making several batches for my neighbors. Merry Christmas!
What a nice story about the "Good News" club. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. We hope you and your neighbors enjoy the cookies. Have a nice evening and a very Merry Christmas!
I have made those for years, my boys would fight over them so I had to make two batches and double the batches….. next time you do it try it with the peanut butter and peanuts in it really good and I always make a double batch. I use like 4 cups of oatmeal. ❤ I also wanted to tell you that anytime I need to know how to make something I come to your videos and the toffee is awesome.
My very favorite cookie. I made it for my first recipe in the first grade. I added it my school cookbook. It was 4 pages of yellow construction paper with 3 hole punches and red yarn. I still have it over 50 years later. I love Miss Joyce. My heart broke as she fought to live in the end. Truly a wonderful lady.
Enjoyed your video. My choc oatmeal cookies always come out crumbly too. I will try this recipe next. I also watched Momma Joyce. She was a sweetheart. God bless y’all.
When I was a teenager I try to make them and they never turned out right. My sister gave me her recipe and teach me how to make them. I’ve been making them for 42 years and we love them ❤
I really appreciate the recipes all written out. I've tried to follow others' recipes, and I usually miss something. Again, thanks. If you have a good tea cake recipe, I would love to try it. My mother never wrote down anything she made. I have tried several recipes by others ,and they just aren't my mothers. She has been gone 25 years now. I wished I had watched her closer.
Thank You! Thank You! I have been making these cookies for 50 years. Mine are also sometimes to dry or eat with a spoon. These turned out better than any I have ever made.
Just so you know, I had trouble with these cookies as well! It took forever for me to learn how long to boil them for the perfect cookie! The only problem! I’m the only one in my home! Not a REAL problem! They just last longer! Thanks for the recipe and the 12 days of Christmas goodies!
I’m 66 and these look like the cookies I loved that the ladies in the school cafeteria made. So yummy! I am loving your 12 days of Christmas. I love that the recipes are easy and appear to be delish! I’ll be making some treats for my coworkers and neighbors.
Happy Holidays from the NW! I've been making these for almost 50 years. I usually add chopped walnuts instead of the peanut butter, but I'm going to try that method. I love your videos & the recipes you make. I grew up in Texas and miss these Southern recipes. God bless you, and Merry Christmas! 🎄 ❤
Hi Tom and Melissa 😊 Many, many years ago, back in the late 1960's or early 1970's, a little neighbor girl shared this recipe with my family. I have made several batches since then. Your batch looks like it turned out perfectly! Merry Christmas!
These are my all-time favorite cookie! My adult children & grands love them as well. Years ago, I couldn't get them to set either, but I kept adjusting the recipe and the time. They have been turning out perfectly now for many many years. My recipe is different than yours but I'm sure yours is delicious also. My recipe uses 2 1/2 c oats, 2 tsps vanilla, and 1/2 c peanut butter. Everything else is the same. Thanks for sharing your recipes. Love your channel.❤️
Now you made me craving these, so while watching this video I started preparing batch for me and my wife Kathy. These are simple classics and I too have had past experiences when they would not set up. My recipe said to boil for one full minute. Merry Christmas Tom & Melissa.
Grew up eating these cookies, and I love them. Thank you for sharing the recipe with us today. You can buy these premade in stores, but they are just not the same as cooking them yourself.
❤❤❤❤ Hi Tom and Melissa. Tom I'm with you on the failing of these cookies. I made them 45 years ago and they came out great. Since then I tried and tried. Either they became frosting, ice cream topping or crunch for a coffee cake. Yes, at times we ate it with a spoon. I gave up on this about 5 years ago. Last year I was recovering from Total hip Replacement and Broken Femur 5 weeks after the replacement. Last year I was wheel chair bound for almost 5 months. I'm now 71. This recipe showed up in my feed over the weekend. I tried the recipe with your strict instructions for 2 minutes no more no less today 12.13.23. OH MY GOSH! Perfect. I was so happy. I made 2 batches one without coconut and 1 with coconut. Then a 3rd batch with Monk Fruit and Erythritol for myself. I always used a candy thermometer. Watching the change in color was Cats Meow. Thank you so much. My kids will be so happy. They are all grown 47. 42, and soon to be 40. They know the struggle Happy Day for success in conquering this demon. Even more special my 3rd Great Granddaughter was born 2 weeks early by C-section. She is a healthy 6lbs 5oz and 19 inches bundle of joy. Kambrie Louise is #12. I've been binge watching your channel. Last year was hard for me. I'm walking better with a cane. Able to maneuver around the kitchen much better. Looking forward to trying other recipes of yours. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 to both of you.
It has been an absolute delight to read your comment. We are so excited that you've had great luck with the recipe, and we are even more excited for you on the birth of your third great granddaughter! What a wonderful blessing! Miss Kambrie Louise is surely blessed to have you for a great grandmother! Thank you so much for watching our channel and we wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas!
I miss everything about Mama Joyce. I watched for a few years up to her passing. that little giggle when she was embarrassed then she would say Sonny Boy. That lady could cook up some grittles for sure. These look good I never can make em either mine are always falling apart
I love the patience Tom has when making these cookies. I have made them before and like you made mistakes. Need to try again. Now I am a diabetic. I enjoy your channel and your presentation of the recipes
These were the first thing l ever cooked! I made them all the time. That was a long time ago (I am 74 now). Over the years, with moving and life, l lost my recipe! Needless to say, l was delighted when this video popped up! Thank You Very Much!
Thank you so much for this recipe! My grandmother used to make these when I was little, and these taste just like I remember. I also made the icing you showed in the gingerbread cookies video and dyed them different colors for my sugar cookies. I wish I could post a picture. They were so beautiful and shiny! Thank you for sharing your recipes! They have been truly helpful.
Thank you 🙏 for this tribute to ..Sweet Momma Joyce .. I followed her on Facebook. God rest her soul. I will be giving this a try … because like you mine wasn’t always successful … have a great day !! Thank you 🙏 for sharing !!!
Thank you so much!! I just made these and they turned out perfect, I have tried so many times making these when my children were small, and I always failed, I'm a grandmother now so I will make them when the Children & grandchildren come over for dinner this year at Christmas! I love the cooking videos you guys make especially the dressing I watched it last night will have to make that as well!! Happy Thanksgiving!!
Seriously I too gave up on this cookie for all the same reasons you did. I would become so frustrated. Attempted 3 times and then said nope no more. I will try these again. Loving your channel.
I just wanted to let u know that u have really helped me out, I'm making a recipe book for my 9 year old grandson and ur recipes r easy for him to start cooking with
My mom made these on a regular basis and they turned out every time. They are highly addictive!! I have tried on several occasions with no success but may try again after seeing your perfectly explained video. Thank you!!
We hope they turn out well for you. Tom definitely understands the frustration after he tried for a very long time to find the recipe that "worked" for him. You are so right, they are addictive! It's hard to stop with just one!
My nephew and I used to make these a real long time ago. He has passed now and I sure miss him. Thanks for sharing with us, and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Recently found your channel when watching another in this series. I also have had very bad luck when it comes to these. Enough so that I HAD decided I was never going to make these again. Seeing this gives me the hope to try one more time. Thank you for sharing. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
You are so right, if they’re made right, they will get firm while they are still warm. So glad you learned what you were doing wrong. It’s very frustrating to go to all that time & effort & then end up with a disappointing results. Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.
❤Tom and Melissa, thank you so much for this video. I recently found your channel and I have been enjoying all your recipes and stories. I’m in West TN and this is just “good home cookin’. I love these cookies and like you I was never able to make them. Everyone kept telling me that they were the easiest blah, blah. I gave up trying as well. I wish I could show you the pix I took just now because I have 18 of the most beautiful no bake cookies you’ve ever seen! They have set up perfectly, and Melissa, from the pan remnants, they taste amazing. I followed your recipe and instructions to the letter, which is hard for me, ha , they are scrumptious looking. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is my very first time that they turned out and the first time in years that I attempted to make them. WOW!
My favorite cookie as a child and as an adult love them❤️❤️ My momma makes the best!! I made them for my girls and I still make them!! My husband prefers the peanut butter no bake! I love them both😀 Great video!
I’m with you I’ve tried making them a bunch of times and I can’t never get them right ! They’ve never hardened up for me ever ! But since you’re giving them another shot I think i will too ! lol .. I love them !
Memories are bittersweet when you miss someone during the holidays but cooking together was the sweet part. Made these with my mom. I’m enjoying each video! The presentation, the banter, the humor and the way you welcome everyone into your kitchen. I wonder how many people will be enjoying having you in their kitchens this Christmas as well. I know we will! May God bless you both!
I'm feeling the same way, made these with my mom and aunt both. Just wanted you to know you weren't alone with the bittersweet memories. Hoping you have a Merry Christmas.☺️
I have seen so many versions of this recipe and I’m sure they are all delish! I am a butter addict so I make it with Club crackers for their buttery taste. I also put them in a 400 degree oven for 5 minutes after pouring a the butter and sugar over the crackers. This is because I don’t wait for the melted butter to get that dark, I take it off the stove when it’s becoming frothy and a deep golden color then It gets darker in the oven. I sprinkle that with chocolate chips and after that a nut topping. Just another variation! It’s great b cuz the are so easy and quick and delicious!
Oh wow. I remember these cookies from Elementary School! They were always a favorite of ours at lunchtime on Fridays either our fish sticks lol! ❤I’m definitely going to try these! Thanks so much for your time and efforts!! Love the education / recipes!! Happy Holidays! 🎄
OMG!Thank you so much for sharing this! I have also struggled for years with it. Too chewy, not setting or crumbling! 1st time ever they're perfect! Even got a perfect from the hubby 😊 Thanks again!!
I Knew these as " missionette cookies , with coconut instead of peanut Butter, but the secret is DEFINITELY in the COOKING TIME getting THAT sugar to a propperty CANDY point SO it sets ! Thanks for your excellent video. Merry Christmas !
I just pour my mixture into an 8x8 parchment lined dish, let it cool completely, then cut it into 1x1 inch squares. So much easier then dropping by spoon fulls!
Great Tip! I'm Going To Make These ASAP! Will Be Adding Raisins. 😊
I've done that too, and added a few pecans.
00¹
Great tips!
yes I do this too.....think I even like them better....
The only problem I've ever had with these cookies, is I can't stop eating them. They are addictive!
Yeah I love to make chocolate cookies
You can say that again…My son always gets me to make four batches for his Holiday Dinner at the shop…
We call these "Jimmy cookies" at my house, after my brother who dearly loved these. He would make a batch at any time of day or night. We lost Jimmy at 34 years of age, so your video brought tears to my eyes.
Good memories though. I'm sorry for your loss.
Thanks Jimmy, rest in peace.❤
I lost my baby brother Mike when he was 38. He took his life sadly! May they both be with Jesus now!!
My brother Norm was the only one in the house who could make divinity cookies ! RIP.
We would each come home from school and make our faves, enough for everyone to enjoy !

How sweet of you to notice this video and will surely mention it to Joyce's son. ❤ I am going to look up her son's channel, now. Thank you ❤🎉😊
We made these a lot as kids! I am 66 now! I think I will make some for Christmas and also haystack cookies!!
My mom made these in the 1960s.I loved them.

@@jesusknowsmethisilov I just follow the recipe except for not adding the peanut butter. I have never had a problem with them
I grew up with a similar recipe,no peanut butter, but it had coconut. Never had a problem.
I'm so thankful you mentioned coconut!!
We call these get well cookies. They make a body feel good ❤
Thank you for sharing. Yes I watched Mama Joyce. Her son is Marshall. She was awesome. I remember when they broke the news about her passing. It broke my heart. She was a sweet little lady.

Your early failures sound just like mine with no fail fudge recipes! Timing is everything. I enjoy your stories so much.
Thank you for the kind words and support. We really do appreciate you sharing the table with us. Hope you have a good day!
I have to tell you I did exactly from the time you started talking to the time you finish this video I had to do the same thing you did and I had to get on there and watch a lady from a cooking show do this and it turned out perfect.
Right there with you Tom! Mine always had to be eat with a spoon and my husband's came out great!
I also use the same recipe (minus the oatmeal) for my fudge, delicious!! I love you guys, you’re both amazing! 🥰
We used to make these with our great-aunt. We call them "Aunt Kay's Cookies. She didn't put peanut butter in hers. So good. We sure do miss her.
Thanks
I have had the same problem as you did and I stopped making them. Now after watching you today, I’m going to give it another try. Thank you!
J & L!
Thank you for your comment. I wondered if I could leave out the cocoa since I’m allergic to it.
Yes you can leave out the cocoa and they will set up finer.@@kmhealed
Thank you!
I love these. I have eaten them since my momma learned to make them when she was a lunch lady at my elementary school.
I agree! Sometimes hard and sugary and sometimes runny…….and once in a great while they turn out chewy, delicious!
Grew up eating these cookies, and I love them. Thank you for sharing the recipe with us today. You can buy these premade in stores, but they are just not the same as cooking them yourself.
There's a trick making the cookies. If the humidity is over 50 % in the air. It won't set up right. I make them for Thanksgiving and Christmas treats.
They know the struggle
Happy Day for success in conquering this demon.
We are delighted to have you watching our channel. Thank you for the nice comment and we hope you have a wonderful day.
I watched Momma Joyce for a long time, all thru her illness and loved every minute I spent watching her channel. I enjoy your chanbel just as much….
I double the recipe forever, turns out great!
My mum used make a version of these too. Her's didn't use peanut butter but she did add shredded coconut. So yummy! ✌️🇨🇦
WOW!
We are so happy to read your comment. We love that you had great success with these cookies. And I'm tickled that you've licked the bowl. 😉
I have now watched this video 3 times and I will probably watch it again before I try making it. It looks so good. Thanks so much for sharing.
My favorite cookie as a child and as an adult love them❤️❤️ My momma makes the best!! I made them for my girls and I still make them!! My husband prefers the peanut butter no bake! I love them both😀 Great video!
I still watch her channel her son has taken over her cooking and he has some really great recipes
I loved Momma Joyce. I still follow her son Marshall. I have never made these or had them but really always wanted to try. Thxs!
I’m with you I’ve tried making them a bunch of times and I can’t never get them right ! They’ve never hardened up for me ever ! But since you’re giving them another shot I think i will too ! lol .. I love them !
When my boys were growing up, I made these all the time, they are easy and the 2 minutes rolling boil is the key.
I agree, now that he’s explained it. . Also, using whole milk for the fat content is imperative I think, too.
My mom made them every year for Christmas. And when i got out on my own i made them. They are so good
