I always love hearing how he was caught, the fact that he was offended that he was lied to is so ridiculous it's funny.
can't help but think that by taunting the police and by giving himself a "professional" killer persona (having "Projects" with codenames) he was just trying to come off as smarter than he actually was. Probably he subconscioudly knew he wasn't the criminal genious he wanted to be, and in the end his stupidity prevailed

You left out the best piece about the floppy disk. He was so narcissistic, he asked if he could be traced by a floppy disk, they told him no, and he sent it. He thought himself so important, no one would lie to him, and that was his downfall
Edit to add- and by his downfall, I mean him going to prison. Whether he wanted to go to prison or not is up for discussion
He looked at his correspondence with law enforcement was like a game and somehow imagined the detectives were enjoying the challenge of trying to catch him. He thought they would be honest out of respect for the game. Somehow he saw it as cheating at the game by not telling him he could be identified by the disc.

What’s even funnier is when he was being interrogated he said something around the lines of “I can’t believe you guys lied to me” hahaha
Yes I was waiting for that bit also as its just mind blowing that you can be this level of narcissistic. Takes quite some credibility away from this interview that is was not included. In fact it seems they are not aware of well documented facts on his capture.

My basketball coach from when I was in HS lived two houses away from him when she was in college in Wichita. She had no idea and couldn’t believe it after.

Yeah I've watched a few of the videos with this DR and he does a really good job of breaking these people down into something understandable.
It blows my mind that so many of these infamous people who commuted horrible crimes were either just completely ignored or abused by their parents. Shows that the parents are the root of it all and how we parent dictates so heavily where our children end up.
I think some of the parents should be guilty of something.
Its too much of an American thing to do to blame it all on parenting.
I dont want my neglecting berating Parents to take credit of me and my sisters' good caring nature.
Also a lot of Asian parents slap their kids to dicipline them, none of them turned Serial Killers.
Also if PARENTING is to all there is to blame, wouldnt Orphans or Foster Care kids that went through the toughest childhood fit the code??? Wouldnt all criminals be Orphans in prison.
All these violent criminals are mostly middle class PREVILLEGED brats.

@@shabrinaz9877 Nature vs. Nuture is always at play though and just because something affects one child doesn’t mean it won’t affect another. Throughout this video the psychologist stated he was seeking attention and validation. When kids are not paid any attention to and then grow up, they seek these things whether it is good or bad as it allows people to turn to them as they didn’t get attention or validation and it makes them feel whole and worth something. Also there is a different psychological bond with your parent versus someone who raised you like in an orphanage. Your parents in your child like mind are all knowing and can’t do any wrong and for them to ignore a child makes that child feel like they aren’t even worthy of their parents validation and attention. Hence why he sought it out in his adult life.
I was sexually abused by my father starting at 8. I’m 55 and have 5 different mental illnesses to manage. Breast cancer at 40 has taken its toll on my body physically. Shame on him.

At the end of the trial Rader thanked the police detectives, lawyers, etc, in such a way that you'd swear he thought he was accepting an award or congratulating them for finally catching such a genius as himself. He's was a next level, off the charts narcissist.
He didn’t decide to give up killing. John Douglas writes in his book, that he(Douglas) discovered that Rader’s wife Paula, on two separate occasions, caught Dennis cross-dressing. And that scared him for a long time, along with an off-handed comment that Paula Rader made, “Oh your handwriting kind of looks like BTK’s.”
My own personal opinion is that those things scared him straight for several years, but he was able to sustain his cruelties because he was a city code-compliance officer. A notoriously callous one

He joined the air force so he wouldn't be drafted and avoiding seeing combat
It was Vietnam so it's just a coincidence that he was in the military because most men his age were in the military. & the two that they mentioned that weren't part of Vietnam, Dahmer was forced to join by his father because he flunked out of Ohio State & Mcveugh wasn't a serial killer, he was a mass killer.

Lol no, people raised by narcissistic parents are typically diagnosed with BPD or borderline personality disorder or with more extreme trauma DID the old term multiple personality disorder. Narcissist are usually raised when they are over protected snd given the world by rich parents or middle class parents who never say no to their kids, thats what creates a narcissist not being abused by one. @@yildirimbas

What strikes me about him and the Golden State killer is how they got to enjoy a 'normal life' while denying so many others of that.
When asking me "do monsters exist?" I always answer "No" to my kids, but that's a lie. I do damn well that the answer is "yes". And the scary part is that they look like us and walk among us.

There are so many similarities between him and Russell Williams. I’m how easily they were both ultimately caught, mainly due to their own stupidity for not hiding the tracts better.

I stand by the idea that some sort of traumatic event is what shapes these people to become what they become. There has to be some mind altering moment in their life that changes how they perceive everything
its a CHOICE. Statistically, about 60% of people who experience Childhood Adverse Experiences do not become abusers or offenders themselves. 40% of those people, decide when the trauma happens, that it's either them or someone else experiencing the trauma, instead of avoiding causing trauma all together - which is what people with empathy do.
@@lucretia_macevil 100% not at all saying it’s not a choice, I just think certain peoples traumatic experience further lead to the decisions they choose to make. Likely as an excuse but I do think that enough mental and physical damage to a person can spark a monster like this. Maybe I’m naive but I fail to believe that people are just born, quote on quote, “monsters.”

Literature says the difference between psychopathy & sociopathy is one of wiring, specifically the serotinergic system. A while ago a bloke in I think IT did a TED talk where he talked about his involvement in the development of some kind of computer program that led him to taking the OHare test himself. Turns out he scored highly meaning he was a psychopath. No trauma in his childhood, in actual fact grew up in a close knit family unit with boundaries set. But he had a reputation as being difficult to work with, manipulative to the max with both co-workers & family. He was quite shocked to find out he met dx criteria for psychopathy. Never committed a crime in his life, not even a traffic ticket issued to him.
Born and raised in Augusta, KS. 15 minutes East of wichita. I still live in the wichita area. BTK is being held in eldorado, ks at a maximum security prison. About 20 minutes north east of Augusta. Two of my buddies worked as guards at the eldorado prison. Dennis is a very weird guy they say. Never gets to interact with people. Just waiting for his death row day.

His mother bringing up the fact she’d found semen stains in his underwear, it is odd that she’d even bring it up as nearly all boys his age would be doing it. Could there also be a strong religious element to it as she did tell him it was veering on being an evil act. It was probably something she truly believed and had been instilled in her the same way possibly. It was a very different time and religion played a greater role than it possibly does today.
December 2000. The worst crime I’ve ever heard was committed by the Carr brothers. Known as, The Wichita Massacre. Or Wichita Horror. I only have read the accounts. Once. It is indescribable what they did.

Always exscuses .years ago when people had 12 kids and had to work hard ,kids did not get much time or attention. They did not turn into killers.Personality disorders .Lack of empathy compassion.turns people into monsters who dont care
When he said that military service draws in some people with murderous intentions and they gave examples at 4:55.
Only 2 of the examples had combat oriented jobs. The others were repairmen, supply guys and other non combat related jobs.
Of those, none of them joined the military with murderous intentions otherwise they would have enlisted for combat jobs lol.

What? What supply guy, repairman, or other non combat related job gets “killing skills”? They go through basic training, some of the were in the airforce and navy (their basic is far from teaching how to kill) and then they spend the majority of their training learning how to do their primary job (repairing things, supplying things etc)

A lot of children “kill” animals and still become normal adults. Of course nobody speaks about that. There is even more complexity to this that I think he does not talk about here.

Because most of them did. Serial killers tend all have a really messed up upbringing particularly with their mothers that makes them develop some sort of warped view towards intimacy. It’s uncomfortable to think about but it’s true in most cases. I think he’s stretching it a but with rader but there definitely was a connection there.

rader joined the af to avoid getting drafted as people with poor grades in colleges were getting drafted for vietnam at the time. by voluntarily joining the af, he avoided getting sent to combat. i think it’s not relevant in this context to bring up the military as while yes there are many people who join the military for power, rader didn’t join for power, berkowitz was drafted, and dahmer joined as it was the alternative to be disowned by his family, i don’t know about ridgeway. good video, however some parts are under researched and misinformed

Well... you can't really do an analysis on someone if you don't know who he is. We don't even know his name, so i guess it's even more unlikely to know his intentions or reasoning. But that is only my take. Some speculation doesn't harm anyway.
One reoccurring theme this psychologist gives in these videos is shifting the blame to the mothers. there are a storm of issues that causes serial killers but it seems like he focuses most on the women in their lives.

She could have been just very God fearing and that's how she was taught to discipline her children based on how she was raised.

Many attracted to children tend to seek out occupations where they can get ready access to their victims - teaching, being Scoutmasters, Catholic priests, etc.
