This dude wasn’t just short he didn’t even seem to have a long reach to compensate.
Just straight hops.
He couldn’t palm the ball either
@@wr7d171 crazy
@@wr7d171 those balls don't need big hands to be palmed, they have a pretty nice grip.
@@mcmerry2846No you need good size hands to palm them and strong fingers and grip especially if your hands aren't huge. If you have small hands forget about it. I've been able to palm a basketball since I was 13 and 5'4 but my hands were 8.5 inches long measured from wrist to middle finger tip.
Everyone refused to try to block him because they were afraid to be dunk on by a short man.
Spud was a frickin bullet from end to end. No dense could set up quick enough to contain him.
and they’re afraid of being booed for blocking a small man.. I could imagine it: “pick on your own size!!” 🤣🤣
I think it was more of a fear of hurting him if he's 10 feet in the air and comes crashing down.
Because if they will block Webb it might cause hazard on part of Webb
Short man? He was bigger than all of you combined! XD
That's crazy!! Spud was fast as hell. He dunks like a 6"6 shooting guard but he's only 5"7. For him to fast break dunk like that is insane!!
Him dunking in any NBA game has to be the peak of human athleticism. There are probably only a few people alive at any time even capable of doing the stuff he did, and I mean only in the way of potential. Robinson was right there with him but he is a little taller. Nate claimed to be 5'-7" 1/4" as his legit height, not the listed 5'9". Spud was LISTED 5'7", probably more likely 5'5" or 5'6" at the most.
@@joebauers3746 5'5'' Earl Boykins dunked once in the NBA.
@@joebauers3746Nate was measured at 5'7 3/4" in college so close to 5'8 but with basketball shoes on he'd be around 5'9 (I think that's how they measure them in the NBA from what I've heard).
And yeah Spud without shoes was probably 5'6 (they actually said he was that height in the NBA Street game).
@@mcmerry2846I've watched Earl but I don't think that happened in a game (it would've been in all the highlights online even 15+ years ago). If I recall he could grab the rim but couldn't dunk the ball. Feel free to link the video but I used to watch NBA top 10s online going back 20 years ago when my family still had dial up Internet and Earl was not dunking in any of them. I've seen 5'5 (and 5'4) guys dunk on UA-cam and I knew a guy that short who could grab rim (I was grabbing rim myself probably when I was 5'5 3/4" or so).
The last one Spud dunked from inside the circle. For 5'7" that's nuts!
Magic Johnson was like, "What's the little fellow doing".. *DUNK*
That is ridiculous for 5'7"
His coach in Atlanta, Mike Fratello said he was only 5-5.
Ken Perk yeah I met him and he’s as tall as my mom. 5ft 5.5
That’s nuts period
His steals are so smooth and pure af.
The guy was a better player than people realize. Had a 5 year stretch in his career where he was putting up double digit scoring and 6-7 assists a game. Not too bad for a guy that small.
Absolutely, very underrated as a player
We're not small,
Just too much material went into our heart.
Woulda been a great player if he could dribble with his left hand. You can find plenty of clips of him moving left while dribbling right. His handles were not good at all for a little man.
That reverse looked so effortless for him lol
hes a one leg jumper, two legs takeoff would make it so easy lol
Man it’s so effortless it make you mad 😆
Spudd still amazes me after all these years!
And someone tried to tell me Spud Webb never dunked in a game. Here's the proof!!!
Stephen Farquharson THEY NEVER WATCHED HIM PLAY THEN
Stephen Farquharson he won the slam dunk contest in the late 80's.
Stephen Farquharson those people should have never been born.
anyone that knows the name spud webb knows that he can dunk. they were just trolling you.
@Lil' Wayne's guitar teacherI think you need to read my post again. I know he can dunk just like everyone else that really knows spud. i was just being sarcastic because the guy that told him this doesn't really know spud webb.
This guy was doing this before there dunk training programs. My childhood favorite was spud.
Wrong.
Spud was nasty...
Erik Larson wrong? What do you mean?
In the 80s did they have dunk programs?
Just amazing that he's jumping off one foot and getting that kind of vertical.
The last one against the Lakers was the best. Perfect strides. Perfect dribbling. Clean dunk.
Spud was so brave. Amazing.
Webb had craaaazy bounce....had everyone in the 1990s wearing ankle weights and jump soles!!
I guarantee you all these extra short pro dunkers that are like 5’3-5’9 and short NBA players that could dunk like Nate Robinson or IT were all heavily inspired by Spud Webb
I was watching Spud dunk in college. you have to understand, whereas today there are lots of dudes under 5'10 who can dunk, back then this was unheard of. also, incredible about Spud, was that he (along with MJ) was one of the very few dunkers who was equally good off one or two feet.
Sorry UT, but 5'-9" Calvin Murphy was doing it in the 1960s and 1970s. It was rare, but not unheard of. Spud probably had at least a 40" vertical......
@@milojanis4901 No, not "unheard of," in fact, my friend in high school in the mid-80s was 5'9 and could dunk. Re Calvin, I'm pretty sure he never dunked in a game, whereas Spud was doing reverse in-game dunks in college.
There are not “lots” of 5’7” guys who can dunk in the nba because there’s not a lot of 5’7” guys in the nba.
@@milojanis4901 Murphy was at least three inches taller than Spud, and he could barely dunk. Spud straight up WON the NBA dunk contest...
That last one against the Lakers was crazy! He just went full steam ahead against the whole front line and no one stepped up to stop him! Only thing would a made that dunk even crazier would a been if either Green or Johnson had stepped in and fouled him swiping at his arm or tried to block it and got hammered on...plus the foul! That would a been insane in the brain! Crazy! =)
look were he took off from unbelievable
Jonathan Akerele that explosiveness will never be seen again. 5'7" in his shoes. Webb is a legend of dunkers and deservedly so. The guy is truly inspirational.
dawg he dunks better than Steph Curry and he's 8 inches shorter
large ceiling fan Yeah crazy, i guess you either have it or u dont
Defeatedeye not really curry isn’t training to jump high he is just trying to make 3s its hard work and jumping a lot and Technique you might be gifted to jump high but anyone can jump high if they work for it
@@WOW-jw4du Curry is overrated and SUCKS!
Shark Buttholio
"Skill" and "talent" have 0.0% reason to do with your ability to dunk a basketball, have you ever tried playing the game before?
Anyone can make 3's? Not like Steph Curry they can't.
He is the greatest shooter in NBA fucking history.
Golden State's reign might be over, but that is irrelevant. Try again next time.
Better yet, pick up a ball and try it. It's a great sport.
Well yeah, one's a one of a kind freak of nature athletically and the other is average at best athletically for an NBA player.
On the last one he cruised by Kareem and dunk among 3 Lakers(magic,Green and cooper) amazing 😳
I’m 5’6. I always thought there was no way I could be good at basketball because of my height. This dude just proves anything is possible lol. Even thought it’s a huge disadvantage.
It's possible...but you need to be higher than 99 overrall of skills.
NATE THE GREAT ROBINSON
Muggsy Bouges, 5’3”, played with the Hornets in the late ‘80’s, early ‘90’s.
What an athlete.
I remember back in the late 90s I downloaded a video that I can’t find anywhere and it’s spud Webb dunking on a breakaway when he was with the kings. Classic
Proof that it’s not about how tall you are, it’s about how high you can hop and the timing of the jump....Dude was crazy with it
He gave me hope as a kid. Closest I got was that Sprite commercial 😂
The high speed hesitation dribble completely fooled Magic. Just amazing, he uses the whole court as a runway!
No one would have believed this
5'7 and still dunks better than everyone in the WNBA
That’s like saying he dunks better than grade 6 boys
@@oriondool1525 about the same height
Not only that - he proved in 1986 that he was the best dunker in the NBA since he won the Slam Dunk contest.
@@rikkidgermano9640 They gave him the win because of his size. He's amazing for his size, but he wasn't the best that year even with Jordan not competing.
@@rikkidgermano9640Dominique was definitely better but Spud was the little guy AND the hometown favorite. I say this as a 5'7 guy myself who looked up to Spud but now I know politics and entertainment.
Same with Nate Robinson when he won his first contest against Andre Iguadala. Nate missed that between the legs dunk over 10 times before he made it and he still got a 45 for it and there was another dunk he kept missing but they didn't penalize him for it. Iguadala did two different between the legs dunks and got a lower score on the second one even though it was a different variation aka different dunk and it was clean and he made it on the first try (look at when Zach Lavine did several between the legs variations against Aaron Gordon and he still got big scores every dunk). Anyway it's about the crowd and entertainment as opposed to the actual best every time. Sometimes the best actually win but if the crowd favorite does just enough they'll give it to them anyway. It's about money and keeping customers happy.
1:10 Magic was like what this little guy, wait what....DUNK!
I can't believe he ever existed. He is just a medical marvel. He is the same height as Billy Crystal. Can you imagine Billy Crystal dunking like that?
He was magical
Spud not only dunked the ball like a 6'6 guard but he also did it on fast breaks where he was full sprint the entire court 😮😮
Stuff that 6,5 wnba players can't do 😂
I remember that dunk against Duke. We swept them that year, but that was just before Duke started to get REALLY good and State still had some luster from a then-recent NCAA championship.
Seems like a million years ago.
Spud's vertical is off the charts. He used his size to his advantage.
heart of a 7 ft dude
Probably a much healthier heart, honestly.
It was so unfair....FOR SPUDs opponents. He frustrated Michael Jordan many times. Jordan was a proud man and believed he could shut down anybody. Jordan would man up on him, Spud would make a quick jab step, turn on the after burners and ZOOM! BYE BYE Mister Jordan!
@1995 GetJiggyWitIt if you're 7ft u can easily dunk. He made it look easy at 5'7"
5'6....THAT'S AMAZING. the best dunker to me.
You youngsters out there who never got to see those Atlanta Hawks with both Spud and Dominique missed a lot of in game dunks.
But keep in mind spud is 5 7
He made it look so effortlessly
He glides through the air, amazing to see
in 93 he dunked on Shawn Bradley when he was playing for the Kings.
In 93 Everybody was Dunking on Shawn Bradley.
@@gm-te8nn everybody wasn't 5'7 dunking on him
Can't believe at his height he could dunk from inside the circle. Just amazing
Anthony Height
I know physics doesn't work like that but I swear to God his small stature makes him float mid air, the last clip it seems like he literally slides on air
THE BEAST...
Legend has it Mutombo still wakes up in the middle of the night scared that Spud Webb actually dunked on him
Im trynna dunk like this guy and Imma do it because he’s my inspiration
Well you've had 6 months to train which is more than enough time...you dunking yet?
Yeah bro he dunked
Yup. I witnessed it. Bro was up there too.
All the other players could do nothing but just watched as he soared in the air cuz even they were amazed by him
Number 1 is such an underrated dunk in history... look at who is standing on each side of him and yet at 5'7" hes throwing it down.
Now that’s impressive!
Not only the hops are impressive but so is the ability to essential palm the ball
He could'nt palm it, that is all 100% coordination and timing.
Best dunker of all time!
He dunked off of one and Two feet.....thats impressive
When I first heard about Web in the 90s.... They told me he was 5' 3".... Then I saw a video like 5 years ago and he was 5' 6 ".….. now this video says 5' 7".... In a few more years he'll be 6' 4"...... 😂😂😂 But hey.....still awesome!!!!
Your might be mixing up Spud with Mugsy, Mugsey is 5'3". Spud was always listed at 5'6" or 5'7" when he played.
@@ProHoopsDaily Hopefully right...!!!👍
Dude's so fast it looks like the video is fast forward
Just imagine the MILLIONS of short kids that he inspired, not even just them but really just kids who aren’t tall lmao
What's most amazing to me is the package he had at 5' 7"... off the stong leg, off both, self oop off the rim, self oop off of a bounce, and much more
Not only he could dunk he could even run fast
Damn, knew he could jump but from inside the dotted line!
Maybe the most amazing thing about spud was he could't palm the ball but he was moving so fast and getting up so high, his forward motion helped keep the ball out front which helped him keep control of the ball on the flight down to the basket.
Spud puttin' it to the Lakers on the #1 dunk! Yeaaaaaahhhhhhhh!
Even my teens/early 20s and I'm 6'1" I could barely get rim...this dude is doing reverse jams! Great hops....
Im from ohio but was a hawks fan growing up cause of him amd nique my man had stupid ups
Omg I can only dream about how good it would feel to that.
Phenomenal athlete!!!!
Unreal. It's 2024 and I'm still blown away by this man.
That last dunk vs the Lakers, Cooper was like #@$^@# me, looking around like did I just hallucinate that ?
I'm also 5'7", though I've shrunk 1/8th of an inch little as I have grown older, but for Spud Webb to be able to dunk every time he took off is unbelievable.
Amazing! So much respect for Webb!
The man who could fly ✊
Damn that dude could get up...that last one he took off pretty far out there in traffic too.
Damn genetics...
Sometimes lives isn't fair...
Spud just too good
God-Given talent right there.
From Dotted TWICE against the Lakers!!
Dude is a rocket 🚀
It scary to go down in that high after the huge jump...could easily break something. amazing.
He flew on that last one amazing athletic ability
The Hawks sure had 2 of the best dunkers ever
Dominique & spud both on the same team dunking like crazy!!
This is some freakish athleticism.
THIS is real flying!
That video just made my day
Indy
Great Video! My favorite was number 5!
if he jumped any higher, someone would have to catch his ass on the way down!!! DAMN!!!!!
He could have played a lot longer if someone could have caught him. It was the impact of landing on the floor from that height that finally got to his knees.
@@kenperk9854 Could you link an article? It’d be interesting to find out more about it
Amazing
inspirational we all should be dunking
His dunks never cease in amazing me.
always fun to watch him school all the taller players
I was always one of the smallest guy in the basketball team in high school (5’11). Before a game, I used to watch this man’s highlight inspired me so much with a lot of practice, I would dunk higher than most of the players in my team. From 20 to 22 got a random growth spurt and went from 6’0 to 6’4
What's crazy is he's taking off of just one foot.
Greatest little man in nba
Shame there is no footage of Spud dunking on Kareem, unless if Dominique didn't remember the story correctly
*LEGEND*
Good stuff.
Thank you and God bless
amazing
haha the music in this is the best
Wow amazing jump ability
He’s awesome
Incredible
Still amazing
and they say players are more athletic nowadays, they obviously don't know about Spud Webb and what he was doing in the 80's
Yeah I don't see any 5'7 dunkers in the NBA right now haha
With regular shoes at that
KickgeniusFAN i mean you could make a statement for Nate Robinson but hes 5'9 and hes retired
I.T?
@@kickgeniusfan8617 Lol what basketball are you watching??
Just wow. Wow.
Brooooo wtfff incredible
