I think this was the first time a miscarriage was ever depicted on television. It’s hard to believe that something so common was just never talked about and in some places something to be ashamed of. Such backward times. 😕
The late '60s/early '70s were a dynamic time of major social change. I wouldn't characterize it as backwards but simply more subdued about which subject matters were discussed openly. The word pregnant was considered vulgar or a no-no as well in the '50s. Remember "Dick Van Dyke" showing twin beds? That was the first half of the '60s and so absurd! When "The Brady Bunch" came along at the end of the decade and first few years of the '70s, Mike and Carol were in their jammies together in one bed. Progress!
That was actress Holly Near. She was in a lot of protest marches with Jane Fonda. I met her in 1972 at Kent State demo and yes she is a cool, nice, brilliant woman. Don’t know her now but from what I remember she was nice and we talked a lot then. Also she was in a Sci Fi film in 1972 Slaughterhouse Five was the title.
That was so fun! In retrospect I think it was something my mom did every once in a while as a budget stretcher, but we kids thought it was such a special treat!
A miscarriage is the most devastating thing a woman can go through in my personal opinion. I had a miscarriage before I had my daughter, and it messed with my head. I was on suicide watch when I was in the hospital to have a D&C, and I'd cry whenever I saw babies the age that my baby would've been. I was paranoid the whole time I was pregnant with my daughter, and my ex-husband broke down crying while he was putting the crib together, and I was in the hospital because I spent almost my whole pregnancy in the hospital and I was home off and on a total of 2 or 3 weeks. My Momma asked him what was wrong, and he said that if anything happened to our baby that he's lost me. He's lost his wife and child because I wouldn't be able to handle it. My Momma held him and let him cry. Our daughter is now 36, married, and has children of her own. I was a nervous wreck. The first I felt my daughter kick, I thought I was miscarrying, and I was hysterical. My Momma and ex-husband rushed me to the ER, and the doctor let me listen to my daughter's heartbeat until I calmed down. To me, having a miscarriage was hell.
For anyone else curious about the sausage link vs. Pattie argument, this is the exchange Edith and Archie had before he had his tantrum, lol: Archie: [Looking in the frying pan with alarm] Get your mind over here. What kinda sausages you makin' anyhow? Edith: The kind you like, link sausages. Archie: With pancakes I like pattie. Edith: I was sure it was link. Archie: No, Edith, pattie. Edith: Oh. In coffee shops, maybe a thousand times, I've heard you order link. Archie: Noooo, Edith! Always pattie. Edith: And I was so sure it was link. Archie: Edith, I'm gonna say "pattie" just one more time and that's it: Pattie. Now don't say "link" no more. Don't even think link, eh?
@@rustynails8756 thank you for kindness my miscarriage was a long time ago but iam so tired as a woman getting blamed for everything that's wrong thank God for you and blessings for your compassion

Too bad we never saw Mona again. She seemed like a cool person who liked to laugh a lot. And eat a lot! LOL

Mona was huge!
She wasn't pregnant when she was running for student body president against Keith Partridge

Love these days when actors had their own teeth instead of caps like they all do now

YES!!!! The horrible white things that looks exactly the same on everyone, no one has personal teeth anymore it seems.
Great point!

I didn't understand what was going on that made Archie angry and decide the leave. It was around the subject of his liking sausages.
Archie liked sausage patties not sausage links.

@bobjacobson853
edith swiped Mona's hands off Gloria during the miscarriage.
Oh wow, sure really did
Did doctors tell other people's personal news back then? Doc told Mona Gloria was pregnant?
I never eat that much
I didn't like Mona, I found her loud and annoying. And do you really eat that much when you are pregnant? Seems excessive.
It’s TV, you know they have to over exaggerate for laugh purposes.
I woke up in the middle of the night starving started at 125s delivery 200bls a ten bls baby and back to 125 at 6wk check up
I ever eat that much

The doctor told Gloria to stay in bed and she didn't, so she may have caused that to happen.
