  • Essential & common piccolo alternate fingerings are C# above the staff and high G#. These fingerings need to be practiced to be useable when needed to correct intonation.

Thank you for the great tips! I think the 'alternate' G# fingering should be treated as pretty much the default on the piccolo. It speaks so much better. Peace, love and mustard!

Agreed! Haha on my tshirt. That should be my new sign off. 😁💛

The added R2-R3 fingering for G# works REALLY well on the flute too. For me, it's more impactful than on piccolo.
I had no idea about the C#. I will be using that anywhere there isn't a run. It's odd that adding fingers raises the pitch, but I feel like it almost comes out in a different harmonic? A better one?

Dear Julia, I have only now discovered your wonderful, helpful videos. I'm really interested for alternate fingerings. Is there an overview of all alternate fingerings? Thanks a lot. Dennis

Hi Dennis, Glad you find the videos helpful! I plan to do an overview video of all the alternate fingerings in the next few days. In the meantime, I highly recommend checking out « The Complete Piccolo » by Jan Gippo. Tons of fingering options in that book!
