Just a tip for foresters: don't try pulling up pipe out from below... pull the up pipe out out from top (behind turbo) rotate pipe and out through the space where down pipe would be.
Patric McClancy I would pull it from the bottom. All you have to do is jack the motor up a few inches and your can sneak it out. Iv done so many I wouldn't do it any other way
I saw this video too late! The catalytic converter already plugged my turbo and I had the change the up pipe, luckily it didn’t destroy the turbo. I just had to remove every single piece from inside the turbo
Good to hear. I just replaced my turbo on a new to me 05XT and could see that cat down there in the uppipe - looked really good actually. I think i will checking the thing once a year until i bite the bullet and change out the uppipe.
I just replaced this part on my 2004/05 Forester XT and very happy i did + at the same time i found the TD04 turbo had a lot of play in the shaft so i replaced it at the same time
Lots of great information on your site, thanks! Have you seen any difference in using a smaller diameter pipe versus a larger size? Aftermarket ones range from 1.75 inches to 2 inches (4.4cm versus 5cm)
Hi Brett, You may obviously not know me but a personal friend of yours says Hi! His name is Jim from Mackay North QLD. I recently bought a 99 GC8 uk import and I was referred to him by one of the friendly staff at autobarn by the name of colin. Love your videos and I have fallen in love with subarus. :D
@MRT Performance Does a aftermarket CATless up pipe need a ECU tune after or is it safe to keep running the standard ECU mapping? Does it throw CEL codes because the CAT has been removed as there is a sensor in that up-pipe? Thanks Brett 2450 NSW
Based on the forester models that had air pumps not having upipe cats, is it correct that all turbo model subaru with air pumps don't have catted up pipes.
Do you have an instructional video on how to change the up pipe? I’m from the US and I don’t really trust any shops to work on my cars. This Forester XT is my first Subaru so this is a whole new ballpark compared to my SRT4
Does the same apply for an 05 Baja turbo? And can you get a careless up pipe for that? Also if so is there any tuning required for just the careless up pipe? I’m working on a budget as I just replaced my turbo.
Nobody mentions the Forester STI! American and Aussies act like it does not exist at all. I have a pukka JDM '04 Forester STI here in the UK, and would love this model referenced, in the other wise great videos . So what up-pipe do I have MRT?

Patric McClancy does s/tb forester 2000 have a cat in the uppipe
I want to ask my forester 2003 xt turbo have pirometer should be the new uppipe to have hole for pirometer?

Justin Canino where did you get your replacement td04? Have a feeling mine might be going
Did you have to retune your Forrester
@@derekwaslak2402 If you replace the stock turbo with a stock turbo, you shouldn't need a tune, but it's suggested to get off stock tune for longevity
Learned some stuff here. Great vid!
Lots of great information on your site, thanks!

Holy moly I had no idea! It's on my to do list now

Well informed,IAM now subscribed
Thanks for the vid. I have a 2005 Saab 92-x aero. Same as wrx. Mine had the good one? Thank you
Thanks for this video. How can I find out of my 2006 JDM Forester (ej205) has a catted or catless uppipe?
Based on the forester models that had air pumps not having upipe cats, is it correct that all turbo model subaru with air pumps don't have catted up pipes.
So you want to say, that if i have 2006 forester 2.5XT it all ready has catless uppipe? and there are no meshes inside of it??
Spot on again great channel
Is a tune absolutely required for this? I'm trying to keep my ecu stock but I want to get rid of the catted up pipe on my Baja.
would my Aus issues my02 forester gt have the restrictive pipe mentioned in this video???
that black up pipe looks exactly like the grimspeed one
we have been manufacturing our up pipes since 2002
:)
Fox they look completely different. Grimmspeeds uppipe flex joint is alittle different.
Do you have an instructional video on how to change the up pipe? I’m from the US and I don’t really trust any shops to work on my cars. This Forester XT is my first Subaru so this is a whole new ballpark compared to my SRT4
I’m assuming my 07 Outback XT does NOT have catted up pipe since it DOES have the secondary air pump. Can anyone confirm?
What about 2006 JDM ej205 2.0 model? Has a cat in up pipe? Thanks
Is it mandatory to tune your car after changing out your cat for a straight non cat up pipe?
Tnx great video
does this apply to the JDM models?
Does the same apply for an 05 Baja turbo? And can you get a careless up pipe for that? Also if so is there any tuning required for just the careless up pipe? I’m working on a budget as I just replaced my turbo.
Yes, the baja all have the catted up-pipe and you can use any up-pipe for the wrx, sti and forester. I bought an HKS uppipe for my 05 baja turbo.
Nobody mentions the Forester STI! American and Aussies act like it does not exist at all. I have a pukka JDM '04 Forester STI here in the UK, and would love this model referenced, in the other wise great videos . So what up-pipe do I have MRT?
Did you find the answer to this? I have a 2006 sg5 Forester and trying to find out the same.
Does changing to a catless up pipe really require a tune if it is the only mod?
Yes
Is this also the same on a 2000 forrester tb / sti ???
MY00 Fozzer (early model) does NOT have a cat in the Up Pipe
So my Hawkeye 2007 STI 2.5.....I had the secondary air pump deleted at forged build. I have the standard up-pipe still fitted....is it catless then?
yep, should be catless
Thanks Brett.
Look for the EGT and connector. That will tell you for sure.
i will check out your site now. i have the 09fxt
Will this still pass emission?
Hi brett . does the 02/03 bugeye sti have the cat in the uppipe ?
no, this is only in the WRX Impreza model
@@MRTPerformanceAustralia ok thankyou. Your videos are a great help and well informed.
Did the sti models get the cats as well?
No i think not, for whatever reason..

This is what killed my car get rid of that thing ASAP if you haven’t
that looks a complete bastard to change

It is when your bolts are sized and rusted... Difficult to even cut some of them off....

does the 2005 sti widetrack have the cat up pipe
From what I recall/read the STis don't have catted uppipes.
