such a good convo, its been awhile since ive listened to people bring up direct conflicting opinions and the conversation maintain good points, and respectful conversation
All that intro when they talk about why it's actually even worse than Monty said one of VI's voice lines is unironically "resist already" this is implying she's beating the crap out of people who are not resisting arrest and begging them to resist arrest so she could punch them more. Incredible .
The fact Kassad stuck around that situation so long speaks to the norms of esports. The first one or two times you get burned like that in any other industry you pull the plug.
I do get that people need to save some money for a bad time, but i do agree with Richard. If you're not self-employee, self-employer and/or freelancer, to work in any kind of industry/buisness as an employee without being paid for 3 or 4 months (i would even say 1 or 2), just seems insane imo. Outside of the money itself (again if you're just an employee working for someone else) one of the best things you can have is the planning and structure around a certain date. It might not seem like much, but being able to plan your life with certainty when it comes to practical everyday-things, is one of the best things one can have and it takes away lots and lots of stress from your life.
There is a difference between having savings and needing to be prepared and being in trouble because of 3-4 months of unpaid wages, that was a straight shafting. Fuck Bleed
the intro was straight fire...my first thought IMMEDIATELY on the announcement was "so we can't have assault and battery and mafia is also too much for a skin line but PUBLIC EXECUTION is fine?"
Not to give too much of an excuse for Kassad, but this is probably why Bleed went from a very good win rate and progressing towards top 30, to flip flopping up and down on the day. The grindy, tier 2-3 scene feels kinda like office work. If you’re stressed with money issues, it’s probably hard to perform.
I think a better way to phrase Richard's criticism of Kassad would be: "if you let the money dry up and not patch over it with your own money, the players would then be aware of Bleed's incompetence and move on to other ventures where there is money" giving up on the lost cause earlier to minimize the time spent getting screwed.
Also maybe they should have pre-recorded ad reads like they do for the sack down? Can't imagine how awkward it is for a guest to sit through one of these
I think Rich's criticism is fair, Kassad trying to buy a player with his own cash could have out a player he wanted into a financial mess where he doesn't get paid for months
I think the position that Kassad was in, in this instance with bleed was pretty overlooked by Richard. I get what he's saying as far as the being an enabler in the negative feedback loop that is Esports, but as a coach, I'm purely spectating here, your reputation is HUGE for your career as are most positions of management or authority. This being the case, I think Kassad trying to do whatever he could for the people around him really shows a huge W to his character, as well as his dedication to his craft of being somebody with that kind of authority. In summary, I get Richard's point, but I can completely understand in Kassad's case how that isn't really something to just jump out of the way before impact as your entire reputation would be in question because of the potential social fallout that would most likely ensue.
If was starting a espor org Kassad had be the to namn to start with. As GM and help to build the org up. And then get RW as a player right speeker. I had pay good money to have them help me to get shit started. That is how get the org ERW starded and let Kassad min/max your cs team and RW look at you so you dont turn evil.
I'm with Rich on this one for sure, Kassad is a fine guy if he truly paid for shit out of pocket, mad respect, but it seems like he fell for one of those "too good to be true" things...we're talking about high 6 6 low 7 figure numbers in tier 2 CS after all
Kassad's point at 1:40:00 I can never agree with, I was good with money the second I started making it, life doesn't care if you or anyone in your can't eat or if you die in poverty, it's fully on you to save (for me 2 years of money) so if you're out a job then you can relax while you search for another We give too much of a pass to people who make enough to save but don't, if you have too much debt then pay it off and if you can't, tough shit This mentality being taught that 22 is too young to know how to spend is crazy to me, you should know the first year you start making money, and we even have youtube and the internet where you can research how to be good at budgeting With all this said, I'm very sympathetic to Kassad and the players because we need much harsher legal penalties for thieves and scammers in general, but also if I'm not being paid, I'm out that month, the org/job can burn
@JJ_196 but he isn't using it to get rich haha, the lesson is not to use crypto to a means to the end Plus I'm 100% sure those are betting money provided by the site for promotion
It is strange how a well established pro player who probably has most of his food and bills paid for ran out of money after 5 months. His child is only 6 months old what happened to the other 5 years of his pro career without a child. Where did he put his money
I'm an investments guy myself and savings is something every person should participate in, but that argument just doesn't hold water. Even though you shouldn't spend most of your income in your 20s, that is still a common reality. But most importantly, once anyone has a family all bets are off. Especially in today's economic picture, there are all sorts of people who can spend responsibly with a decent income AND still struggle to survive. Those who say otherwise are ignorant of the healthcare and employment landscape we are operating in. Months without a steady income are months without literal insurance in life, and that is why people focus on earnings and passive income the way that they do. If someone has been earning high-income for years, then the conversation is different for them, and the same goes for the life expenses that can bring a person to the edge.
I’m not sure you understand that if you whisleblow it’s really really hard to find a new job, especially in that environment. Not only wouldn’t they get paid for previous work, they wouldn’t get paid in the future.
I truly feel for Kassad and everyone involved with BLEED, but I just can't sit there with a straight face after listening to some things. I mean this BLEED thing was a shitshow basically from the beginning. Kassad was officially appointed as a HC in the late November. In this video he says that the problems started in January. And they just kept increasing in size and ridiculousness with every passing week. - The CEO/management is ghosting you every other week, his gf doesn't care about his supposed 'disappearance' from the face of the earth (why is he even talking about calling local authorities after her "lol, whatever" response - is he that naive? xD) - they are unable to pay them for months (and they got only 2 miniscule bank transfers in over half a year?) - he's multiple people calling him every day about unpaid contracts, salaries, transfer fees, buyouts etc. etc. - and tons of other obvious signs on the wall and yet he convinces people to come to this team? People with actual buyouts that they have to pay themselves?! And how can he even say with absolutely no shame that he wanted to pay the buyout of 10k for Gizmy with his own money, just right before going public with the actual truth? Someone should be shouting his catchphrase at the top of their lungs - ARE YOU ACTUALLY INSANE KASSAD? Really, I somehow can't take him seriously right now after all that info. Great that he tried to be the stand up guy in the end (and is to this day), but at the same time he was the one responsible for dragging most of his late coworkers (like jkaem, nexa, nawwk) into this mess in the first place. I don't know man, what did you expect Kassad? That the tooth fairy will eventually come down and fix BLEED by herself? Or for an actual deus ex-machina?
I know the two scenarios are different, but it really amazes me how fast he left the cloud9 project back then, to then ride the Bleed project this far into the void, and also like someone other wrote: You sign jkaem and naawk in mid May so at that time he already knew there had been so many money/payment-problems surrounding buyouts and salaries and you still sign players? The whole FaveN problems with him not getting any money and Kassad himself says that taking crypto was more "desperation" to get him some money, as said then i cant see how you can still just keep signing new players to the roster if you have all those problems at the same time? That seems to be in bad faith as far as the timeline goes for this shitshow.
Comparing kassad with one of the best coaches of all time. Reasonable of course… Doesn’t matter that kassad worked with lesser pieces and took an Australian(!) team to top 4 finish at a major. He is still a shit coach apparently.
Basically, kassad was the coach, manager, accountant and pretty much the entire org all by himself?
Yep
Susge
Such a shame, hope Kassad will overcome all this bs and wish him and the rest of his team the best of luck

Best part of the video is the minutes-long monologue where Richard shows his hindsight is 20/20. :P
the bit where Richard Lewis was telling Kassad to get his head examined was fucking hilarious.
