Sansamp GT2 vs Behringer GDI21

- Comparison between Sansamp GT2 and Behringer GDI21. The sound is almost the same, but price gap is huge. GT2 costs $190 while GDI21 costs only $30. The sound quality of the video recording is not that good, but the objective is to compare the two, not to review the sound quality of each, so for comparison purposes, this should be okay.
There are are three settings compared in the video:
1. Mild Distortion (Tweed)
2. Mid Distortion (Calif/Clean)
3. Hard Distortion (Brit/Hot)
Note that my laptop normalizes the audio during setting #3 (hard distortion) so you may notice that the sound gets muffled. Just compare the muffled sound.
Net, I highly recommend Behringer GDI21. As a bonus, it also has XLR output so it can be used as a DI box.

I have a GDI21 for about 6 monts now, and it's awesome! I really recommend it to anyone who want a good pedal at quater price of other products. I use it with a vox pf10 and a really cheap "guitar" (about 100$) and it gives me the sound i want. I like it's sound better than an ibanez tubescreamer.
The mid hump of the V30 aligns with the frequencies best perceived by the human ear. So because guitars carry the most musical information in metal, the V30's dominance is the natural conclusion.
I think the sansamp sounds more clear and articulated.
Certainly for the high tones and overtones, probably due to higher quality components used by tech 21

I put my Sansamp and my Behringer through an amp. Even with flat settings, I wasn't able to dial in a good sound.
Probably more for recording or going through PA rather than through an amp.

I own one of these and have a friend that has the sans amp. No comparison. The Behringer has a lot of buzz and noise when you turn up the gain that his sans amp doesn't have.
The Sanamp has a more focused sound. They do sound very similar.
Yup, I agree :-) I wish I had a good recording equipment 4 yrs ago when I had both of these pedals with me.
Look the same sound, but comparison with bad mic???? No way man!!!! The sound is on the details!!! The little differences are very important and it makes the real and huge difference!!!!

You're right - a lot of people do use them as preamps and that's great, but it's primary purpose is as a modeler.

Many people buy it but don't know what a modeler is, and don't like it because they use it in addition to amp distortion and high gain settings.
Using either of these units as a preamp, the amp settings should be flat and clean, unless the user really knows what he's doing. Other than that, the sound is not going to be what was intended by the designers

After using both of these pedals, I can tell you the gdi21 sounds like $30 distortion pedal with a speaker simulator. The gt2 sounds like a real amp, better than any digital model.

My behringer sounds warmer and more realistic than a J station or a POD. The effects really make it a good deal too
i think you're not supposed to use them infont of an amp... i use my gdi when i go direct
the biggest difference is that behringer products typically last a few days. the sans amp will last forever if you don't throw it at a brick wall.
The tones around 4:30 were really good...

@whoosoo Get a Behringer noise reducer as well. They work together well. You can get nice usable tones out of them.
O único problema da GDI é o medo de pisar no switch, mas pode meter o pé que não quebra não.
O som dos dois é muito parecido, sendo a GDI uma cópia da GT2. Você tem como provar a qualidade dos componentes (resistores, CIs e transistores) ?
Te garanto qua a qualidade dos componentes é a mesma.
Ambos roubam um pouco de sinal, sento a GT2 mais "beberrona"...

Haha I am sure you can not hear a difference because the schematic is exact the same and the opams, resistors and capacitors are all the same too!! The bonus on the Behr is the price and the XLR out! Great value. The difference in sound is the mojo on the brand.
I think it's a little more complicated than that haha. SansAmps come in a metal casing, are a lot sturdier, and are hand built in the USA, not manufactured in China. They've got a better manufacturer's warranty, too.
Not saying it's worth the price for everyone, the Behringer price is hard to beat, but understand that that's how behringer's business model works: take other manufacturer's technology and undercut them to the point that they can't compete. They do it to Boss, Mackie, Ibanez, and even smaller companies like Tech 21.
I said you can not hear a difference and that has nothing to do with the metal casing etc. And I don't need a factory warranty for that price! This is a demo about Tone. And tonewise they are the same! And I must say they sound both terrible! Much to much ear piercing high frequencies. The only way to use them is with a eq pedal after this pedal.
Everybody in pedal world is copying each other!

In Uruguay, the GT2 cost is 298 dlr$, the Behringer cost 45 dlr$ and they almost the same!!!!!!, thnx behringer thnx a lot!!!!!!!!!
Someone should do this with the Bass Driver and the BDI21 clone.

hi, i have a big muff and im looking for a booster, i was thinking about ds 1, sd1, or behringer gdi 21, i pya rock, grunge, punk, post rock etc, and looking for a cheep option, i wana know what you think could be the best option, nice demo bro any tip or advice is well.
I was buy SansAmp GT2 just because i buy GDI-21 at first... and it sound not so far... (i would say ALMOST SAME) but the little cons for GDI-21 are.. its more noise if you bring it on a gigs.... but if see the price comparison...!!! i buy SansAmp for USD230 and GDI-21 only USD36... Like Earth and Heaven..!!

@oimpiedoso +1 and sound is really bad even if you say that this is for comparison purpose...hard to evaluate sound quality with bad record... it reminds me the guy who record a video of HD videogame with a VGA webcam...looks it's great ! Don't know really what you want to compare except the price ant the number of settings...
Behringer is really good, but you must have some patience and try averything to find the sound you want. I'm using him for Heavy Metal and it's just great! of course... my amp helps, but its a small em simple Amp...

The Sansamp is brighter, more correct & clean. The Behringer too muddy and clumsy sounding.

well, the quality is the same. They have probably changed some parts around though, they can't copy the schematic :/ That is why there is a difference in sound :P

behringer opamps are el cheapo TL074's and TL072's not unlike those in the original sansanps
Of course they can copy the schematic! Cloning pedals is commonplace.
And I believe that your pedel sounds better than in this vid.. its normal)))))))

sansamp is much better. You prove nothing. You have got it... and what? Off course this pedal is not expansive. And sounds not so bad as some products of behr. But... if we compare both pedals.. )) sorry.

Crappy review. The audio sucks. The distortion settings are blowing out your mic. That's no way to compare sound.
