Quality of your video, explanation, tips, links, basically everything about this is so soothing to watch. Super helpful.
Thanks for sharing this video! You've done a marvelous job; a lot of the UA-cam's I've seen on this topic are not shot close enough for me to see what actually needs to be done, and therefore are virtually useless.
This is a proper DeJaVu right there...
I literally figured the same setup and purchased the parts ~5min ago and was hoping my idea will work because I only saw it done with batteries that have a dedicated 9V DC outlet and now I see proof and you even apparently bought the same step-up cable I did!
Hell yeah! Thanks for the vid!
wow great video. Great shots, very clean, great info ,even down to the screw adapter which ive wanted to know about. Amazing!
I knew there had to be a way to do this. Gonna be mounting a battery pack on the smallrig G85 cage that I ordered based on your review. Thanks for saving me a bunch of time!
EDIT - Finally used this solution just the other day, shooting a short film. Didn't have to switch batteries all day. Super liberating, thanks once again.
One of the best videos I have seen on the subject.
Looks great! Super helpful video, thank you. Watched a couple of other vids and decided to stick to this set up. Looks cleaner and more convenient.
I bought everything as you said an it works! Thank you very much!
quality info ....looking forward to getting a setup like this soon!
Very Clever! Gonna check it out! thanks for the Info!
Subbed. Thank you for the shopping list and details of the contents of this list. Also for leveling the decibels of the background music to a low but satisfying sound.
You my friend got yourself another subscriber. Thank you so much!!!
Right on. Thank you for this.
You are the MAN! This video was a huge help...not all heros wear capes
This is great,thanks!
Cheers, Pete
I currently am using the Panasonic G85 mounted to a 3 axis Gimbal. I hate having to change out batteries when I am filming at events and have been looking to do something like this as an alternative to using the normal batteries. I will rig something up on to my gimbal so I can use the external battery like you have done. Thank you for the tip.
Great video! USB battery bank proves to be useful for all sorts of things other than just juicing up your phone.
Very, very useful!
Thanks for sharing. Very helpful :)
Excelente!!!,gracias :)
I sooo needed to see this!
Thanks for the information!
Just for your reference, when comparing batteries you need to compare Watt/Hours (W/H) not just milli Amp/Hours (mA/H). With this information, you will find the original battery it is rated at 8.7W/H. The power bank is a little more complicated, but usually the mA/H given for the power banks is for a single cell Voltage, so about 3.7V. This means that the 10,000 mA/H battery bank is 37W/H, so around 4.25 times bigger than the original battery. After all the conversion losses, I think you should be looking at around 3.5 - 4 times the original running time.
hi, im using a 20000 mAh power back whit a 5v to 9v step up and a dummy battery whit protection inside, is dangerous for my Sony A6500 for long hours? apparently it work well and show 100% charge. thanks
As an electrical engineer I do not recommend this method here is why! Your battery says it outputs 7.2v and obviously has also a certain allowable ripple of voltage that is designed for the camera. On the other hand you are feeding you camera with 9 volts with absolutely no way to know if the voltage ripple might or not damage your camera and I am not even counting the fact that 9 volts means more current for your camera and your camera might not be able to handle the overcurrent.
@@andrereis3896 '9 volts means more current for your camera and your camera might not be able to handle the overcurrent.' are you sure about this? Surely camera will just pull whatever current it needs? I'd be a lot more wary of over-voltage. My house wiring can handle up to 13amps, but if I plug in a 1kw fire, it's not pulling all 13amps.
@@JohnnyMotel99 V = R * I, in a câmera the R is mostly constant so yes more voltage is more current. In your home you are constantly changing the R but your V stays the same
@@andrereis3896 my bad, rotten at electrical theory....
this is genius! thanks for sharing ..
The Tutorial looks great, but we need an updated list of parts as a couple of the connecters are no longer available and it's hard to tell if there is a 1 to 1 alternative.
Excellent video, well explained so easy to follow. Thank You. How would this work on my Canon 7D?
Excellent video and it worked well for my Canon 6D which I use for multiple exposures for astrophotography - battery normally lasts around three hours but this set-up allowed me to operate the camera for over 8 hours and still plenty of power left in the Anker battery.
I'm about to do this exact thing for my SL2... Hope it works out the same!!
Thanks for your tutorial. It is amazing. May I request you how do we get dummy battery for my canon SX50 cmerea
Awesome video!
This is just awesome as I have a G85 and when I shot with my cage at the races I shoot it seems I running out of battery at the wrong times. So I'm going to get this setup and rig it to my cage so I can shoot all day that would be awesome and even for traveling too. Thanks
From 2000 likes of this video, camera manufacturers should /must understand the need of the user of bigger battery vs the compactness.
Great video! What do you recommend for powering an Atomos Ninja Inferno & GH5? I'm thinking of getting a V-Lock Battery as I really want to be able to film outside away from power cable.
how come you have only 930 subscribers, you deserve way more
Probably cause I haven't uploaded a video in some time. Getting back to it this month though
Has anyone been able to get this to work with a Panasonic Lumix G7? I read a couple of comments below about lines on the LCD. I have a G7 and am worried that there's a problem for this camera.
Good video. It is interesting that you use a 5V to 9V adapter, I would have thought a 5V to 7.4V would be more suitable. What do you think?
Have you tried shooting in bulb with it. I tried a dummy battery with a RAVPower power bank.... Work in most settings except BULB..... And that the one time I need it. This is only with the Eos R..... Works fine with 5D.4
Any experiences with the GH5? Thanks!
Hello and great video. I purchased the Panasonic DMW-DCC12 DC Coupler, for my Lumix GH5, do you know if the adapters you list in the video work with this?...I could not find a size of the Panasonic coupler I purchased. Thanks!
Can I use my Mic (Rode Videomic) AND this power bank?
What would cause the camera to read the battery as low ? It doesn't do that plugged into the wall. It still works but the blinking battery icon is really annoying. Just in case your wondering I'm using the same setup as above just with the 20000mah anker and a DR-E18 dc coupler for the canon t7i. I appreciate any advice given thanks.
Thank you!
Thank you!!
this helped a lot
love this, can it be adapted to run a Nikon sb800 flash?
good job
U R Genius. THX a LOT
Genius!!
There are kits on Amazon that up-convert the voltage from 5V to 7.5V. For my EOS-M I use one of those. People complain that they do not work but there is a trick to understand. The USB Battery Absolutely MUST put out 3 or more amps. This is the most confusing part so go to a local electronics store and ask if you are not sure. You need 3 AMPS out of a single USB A port. Sometimes they quote 4.8 amps but that is for two ports.
The other way around is order the kits with 2 USB cable ends. Then a battery that says 4.8 amps.
on the a7iii you can just go powerbank into usb c connector. if the camera is off it'll charge the normal camera battery as well
Thank you! This veri cool video!!!
Thank you
Hello sir, the USB 5 to 9v converter's manufacturer says that it can only provide a current up to 800mAh, so it says it's not suitable for "deviced requiring high power"... Did you had any underpower issues with your camera, some Canon users say their touch screen wasn't working or something...
Does your driver also make a high pitch noise when plugged into power?
4:49 What's that thing called attached to the tripod?
Edit: Thanks for this video, btw. I was trying to think of a solution but this helped a lot. I bought everything but a way to attach it to the camera or tripod. Trying to decide how I want it. I bought the Anker 20100 model. It's longer and thinner than the model in your video. I'm worried it'll be too wobbly if I use that cheese plate.
Is the step up usb get hot while use?
Hi! Do you think, I can charge my Sony FX3 ? Or, just use usb c connection ?
I would say get an angled USB cable so it doesn't stick out back so much. One thing I worry about these hack was that if you accidentally swing your hand and unplugged the wires that will cut off the battery, and worry how stable the battery works like tells you when it will die before it just shuts off.
Hello ive bought a powerbank with 20000mah from Anker. It has an output of 2,4A. Somehow when i use the camera the battery percentage drops. Ive recorded 3-4 minutes and it droped from 85 to 78%. Why? The powerbank is connected and the option for usb charging is enabled. Please help me out. Thanks!
Hey can i use any dummy battery connected to my anker powercore essensial powerbank for my a6400 camera? I don't wanna fry it.
What battery bank would you recommend for a Canon M50 mkii? Been looking everywhere and am still not sure which one would work best and not blow out my camera. TIA!
thx for the video would this work the same for a sony a99 do you know?
hi, im using a 20000 mAh power back whit a 5v to 9v step up and a dummy battery whit protection inside, is dangerous for my Sony A6500 for long hours? apparently it work well and show 100% charge. thanks
can you this method for a Sony A74 Camera? thanks
Nice video! I have a Canon 6D mark II .. I can’t find the dummy battery.. is there any you could please direct me to?
I have Canon 750D a dummy battery, step up adapter from 5V to 9V and a 1amp powerbank with an output of 5V. When I tried the rig I bought I got message on screen "check battery pack" and I can't pass through this message, tried to turn off and on for several times but it didn't work. What else can I do?
Can I use these for my Nikon D5300?
Hello. Does the Duracell 10050 mAh Power Bank work with the FZ2500?
Hey man great video, please can you tell me what mic you were using for the voice over? It’s super clear
amzn.to/2hx8hMP There you go.
Anyone have any suggestions regarding voltage adjustable chargers/packs....almost all these hacks give you 9vlts when the batteries state 7.2 volts ..so who knows if you are slowly cooking the circuitry of the camera.......Seems like no one addresses this issue.................
Hi.. Why would you need a step up USB cable? Is it your camera that needs 9V to operate?
Super trick 👌👌
i'm using like this but i have a problem. when i shoot a video it's ok but when i shoot a photo sometimes i can't take a photo. i just can hear shtter sound. do you know why?
how can i be sure this will work with a Canon t6i power conversion wise?
I have sony dsc hx350 and I don't know where I can buy the dummy battery for it.
Top, vou fazer isso na minha tambem
How can I achieve this with a LUMX LX100 and Anker PowerCore+ 26800 PD with 30W
Great video! I have the Olympus EM5 M2, could you please provide me the list of all the parts I need to get. Thanks!
Just get the Olympus battery grip which enables you to use a second battery, housed in the grip. 2 full batteries are sufficient for almost everyone
What equipment do i need to do this with the canon eos m50?
Ummmmmmm the 1/4-20 to Cold Shoe adapter is out of stock
Very cool hack! Will this work with the GH4 as well?
Yes
It’s been a few months now since this was released and I guess a few people have been using this setup. Any problems?
can I use this with my cannon t6i??
thank's .. nice video..
Doesn't it damage the camera, when it is 9volt?
Tether Tools has pretty good dummy batteries / battery eliminator. I just wish they made one for my DC-FZ82 :(
not sure if the adapter will do a good job or not, if it does not, it may shorten your camera's internal circuit life?
Does this work for photo mode as well?
Can I use this for gh4
How do i get 7.4 volts for my canon m50?
Nice!
have you measured the exact amount of power the g85 needs? i ask it becose 9v seems a lot , there are also power banks with 9v output as well so you dont need the converter
yeah it's 8.4v, the power bank puts out around that much, it's never a true 9v. Yes I looked into those, but since they're a lot larger I decided to use a converter with a small Anker power bank.
ok !!!! thanks for the info , i am about to buy the g80 and u saved me from a lot off money , this way i will try it out and have insted of 2-3 extra batteries , this set up or an anker power bank with 9dc output and skip the power adapter , thank you and keep up the very useful information of the people
Not sure why you need the 5v to 9v adapter cable..ive seen dslrs powered using a 5v 2A power brick as a smart phone would..im no electrician but ive seen it work..
So putting a 9v output into a 7.2v input didn't mess with anything?
Please help i am in need of this but they do not ship to my country HALP
Can use in 60d canon?thank u
Thank you for the video, well done. I'm having problems with my setup, I have the dummy battery and external battery which has a 9v output, but the dslr either did nothing, or sometimes flashes the dead battery icon and won't shoot. Is this a common problem, and do you know how I could troubleshoot? Thanks!
Haven't run into this issue myself, and without your exact setup it would be hard for me to troubleshoot
Can I Directly connect a 20000 mAh powerbank (Mi 20000mAh V2 - supports upto QuickCharge 3) to a Canon 1300D (Rebel T6)? Or does the USB port not support charging?
With the sacrifice of a mic of course. Any ideas about that?
Experience with GH5S?
i need it .. but its insanely costly in my country .. want to make using old battery..
