    The Tutorial looks great, but we need an updated list of parts as a couple of the connecters are no longer available and it's hard to tell if there is a 1 to 1 alternative.

    Thanks for the information!
    Just for your reference, when comparing batteries you need to compare Watt/Hours (W/H) not just milli Amp/Hours (mA/H). With this information, you will find the original battery it is rated at 8.7W/H. The power bank is a little more complicated, but usually the mA/H given for the power banks is for a single cell Voltage, so about 3.7V. This means that the 10,000 mA/H battery bank is 37W/H, so around 4.25 times bigger than the original battery. After all the conversion losses, I think you should be looking at around 3.5 - 4 times the original running time.

      As an electrical engineer I do not recommend this method here is why! Your battery says it outputs 7.2v and obviously has also a certain allowable ripple of voltage that is designed for the camera. On the other hand you are feeding you camera with 9 volts with absolutely no way to know if the voltage ripple might or not damage your camera and I am not even counting the fact that 9 volts means more current for your camera and your camera might not be able to handle the overcurrent.

    • @JohnnyMotel99
      @JohnnyMotel99 4 роки тому

      @@andrereis3896 '9 volts means more current for your camera and your camera might not be able to handle the overcurrent.' are you sure about this? Surely camera will just pull whatever current it needs? I'd be a lot more wary of over-voltage. My house wiring can handle up to 13amps, but if I plug in a 1kw fire, it's not pulling all 13amps.

    I literally figured the same setup and purchased the parts ~5min ago and was hoping my idea will work because I only saw it done with batteries that have a dedicated 9V DC outlet and now I see proof and you even apparently bought the same step-up cable I did!
    Hell yeah! Thanks for the vid!

    I currently am using the Panasonic G85 mounted to a 3 axis Gimbal. I hate having to change out batteries when I am filming at events and have been looking to do something like this as an alternative to using the normal batteries. I will rig something up on to my gimbal so I can use the external battery like you have done. Thank you for the tip.

    There are kits on Amazon that up-convert the voltage from 5V to 7.5V. For my EOS-M I use one of those. People complain that they do not work but there is a trick to understand. The USB Battery Absolutely MUST put out 3 or more amps. This is the most confusing part so go to a local electronics store and ask if you are not sure. You need 3 AMPS out of a single USB A port. Sometimes they quote 4.8 amps but that is for two ports.
    The other way around is order the kits with 2 USB cable ends. Then a battery that says 4.8 amps.

    I would say get an angled USB cable so it doesn't stick out back so much. One thing I worry about these hack was that if you accidentally swing your hand and unplugged the wires that will cut off the battery, and worry how stable the battery works like tells you when it will die before it just shuts off.

      Some cameras have sensors that allow them to know when a non-chipped batter is installed. Perhaps try plugging the USB converter into power directly instead of the External Battery and see if it displays the same results. If it doesn't you may have a defective battery.

    I've been wanting to do this for my speedlites. Do you know if it would be possible?

    • @30fivemm
      @30fivemm  8 років тому +1

      Depends on the speedlight as some do have external power capability like the Nikon SB900/910. The Canon 580 would require a little "hacking" to get done.

    • @nicracine
      @nicracine 8 років тому

      I was thinking on my YN560iii and iv. They use the Canon power plug. Would it be as simple as hacking a power cable to fit the USB converter? I read that the Amperage requirement is quite high on a speedlite, about 10A. Do you know what it is for a camera?

    • @30fivemm
      @30fivemm  8 років тому +1

      Amperage could be a problem, my G85 takes 2A

      I just checked a few portable power packs, and none give out that much power, so I'll keep looking. Great vid BTW, very instructive.

    I absolutely love this idea and want to use it for my new G85, but at the same time, using a converter scares the piss out of me. Makes me feel like I'll be voiding my warranty, potentially damaging my camera because of that custom adapter chain. I'd much rather use that than swap batteries thirty times in a shoot though, hahahahahahahahaha

      I've been having some issues with the camera shutting off mid film with this setup. It also does a weird jolt when I try to take a picture but doesn't take a picture only allows for film so I can't use this setup for a time lapse.

    Not sure why you need the 5v to 9v adapter cable..ive seen dslrs powered using a 5v 2A power brick as a smart phone would..im no electrician but ive seen it work..

  • @andrereis3896
    @andrereis3896 4 роки тому +2

      @@andrereis3896 But for this camera G85 in the sample video they sell an original DC adapter, and according to the specs it outputs 8,4V. I have seen another review that if the camera goes beyond a certain voltage it recognises the AC adapter and won't trow battery incompatible errors.

    • @andrereis3896
      @andrereis3896 4 роки тому

      @@john-5959 Yeah I actually bought one for myself! Well it can handle 8.4 for sure, and I don't think 0.6v is a big difference, I would just be cautious about it. I might try to see if I find a datasheet for the components they use for their power system. Maybe I will find what they designed it for

      @@andrereis3896 Thanks for the quick reply, i actually found a video where you can see that the camera will shut off if you voltage even drops below 8.2v when using an DC adapter, a solution is to add an resistor that will add battery indicator to your fake battery, search for video Ti0KRKT4tcc in the youtube search box.
