Finally, a list I agree with. You got this selection spot on. Blue Jays album was something else. My wife walked down the Aisle to Procal Harum's Whiter Shade of Pale, and we left the Cathedral to Nights in White Satin. Wonderful memories. (1979)
I was very Blessed! I'm 65 now. My mother had" On The Threshold of a Dream", when I was a teenager. I fell in love with The Moody Blues! I saw them 5 times live! Once, from the Second Row!

Justin's voice is just beautiful.. He is a true poet .. He has got me through my teenage years... The most beautiful times of my life.... He is such a true artist!!!! The Moody Blues are the best group ever!!!! I listen to them all the time, they are so relaxing....💙💙💙💙💙.....
I have loved Mr. Hayward and the Moody Blues since 1967, and still 💞 them. Always will. Thank you for almost sixty years of wonderful songs. Luv, hugs.
I grew up listening to early 50 and 60s pop bands. But when I returned from Vietnam in 69, I discovered The Moody Blues and immediately took solace in the healing aura they offered. Thank you, lads.
If world peace is possible then it would be through inner peace that it could ever Become a reality people like Justin Hayward spreading the positive side of love and that is the key of life and the moody blues have shared this truth through out their whole career and Justin has been a major role bringing truth to the world and he continues this message today still going strong with his solo career it is only right to celebrate the genius of JUSTIN HAYWARD.........《 ☆☆☆☆☆》 ..
I have long run out of superlatives to describe the Moodies and especially Justin. I have fallen asleep with their songs since Seventh Sojourn came out way back in 1972. I know all their songs almost by heart.. That group was sent to us from heavens above. Like Mozart... out of this world.
I had a doctor friend who told me on his dying bed one of his wishes in this life was to see the Moody Blues. Before he died the band came to Pensacola and he went to the concert and got his wish.I smile when I think of him and the Moody Blues.
I have been to many. Their concerts were amazing!!! Perfection! I still go to Justin Hayward concerts. Also still perfection. I miss the band though very much.
What a wonderful voice that comes from heavens most high. It continues to bring a peaceful break from our destructive world. Peace unto you Justin Hayward and the Moody Blues.
The spiritual depth of the Moody Blues and particularly Justin Hayward's lyrical and melodic and musical poetry and genius is unmatched. There is such a thing as a higher consciousness, and higher awareness, and the Moody Blues combine that along with musical genius to a very powerful effect. Their music is about the very essence and meaning of life itself. Simply Brilliant.
I just keep finding more and more and more gifts of song by Justin Hayward the more I look. And I'm going to be, happily, VERY busy listening to every single song. He is amazing, and he's showing no sign of stopping...thank God!
I totally agree. I got into the Moodies via Nights of course, and then In Search of the Lost Chord when I was 18 in the early '80's and I loved them. The years went by and now I am discovering all the songs I didn't know back then and it has made such a difference to every day - they are an inspiration especially Justin's songs and I'm just so grateful for them all. This difficult period in our lives has made me value them beyond anything I thought possible.
I bought my first record player in 1970 and got Every Good Boy Deserves Favour to use with it because I liked the cover. I was 18. I have been a lifelong fan of the Moodies since and still get a buzz from their music and performances, of which most of those available on DVD or BluRay I have.
When J. Hayward started playing for the M. Blues; a very special group of esoteric music lover were born There’s no doubt that this gifted musician has all what is needed to be considered among one of the best music composers of our time. He has that special ability to take us out of this world. And easily make us dream of lands of highs and lows in a night of white satin. ( I’m 65, and 55 years loving his music).
Appreciate the comment. I find it amazing how the Moodies morphed from "Go now" (which seems quite ordinary to me) to the unique music that followed. Justin must have had a great deal to do with it. He has such a lovely voice and his lyrics are special. Sounds like a really nice guy too, judging from interviews on UA-cam.
Nights, winters years, brings me back to 1982 in May.I was riding home with a friend and we had Blu-Jays 8 track on.NWY came on and tears started coming down my cheek......my father was dying.I tried to hide my feeelings,i never liked anyone seeing me cry.I found out yrs later he nailed me.My dad eventually passed 7/9/82.
@JustMe Put 'er there brother! Go Now........... Fly Me High. Never get tired of their genius eh? I listen to Seventh Sojourn often and wonder what they would come up with if Pinder had stayed on for a while longer. Biggest influence of my musical life by far!
Beautiful song,; Justin creates timeless music creating lovely pictures painted with words and emotion! Love listening to his songs-shows the genius in his work! Just sitting back and listening is calming, emotive, brilliant! His history surely shows a child prodigy evolving into a musical genius! An easy listening voice with class! Love 💕 the adventures in his songs!
I've only heard this song when just Justin started touring and I have gone to several gigs of his. Of course this is when he was younger. I love This Morning. It touches your heart. All his songs do.
I agree with most of what you’ve shared. I’ve been a Moodies’ fan since January, 1971 when college roommate came back from holiday (Christmas) break with DOFP. I would add Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas to front line spiritual songwriters. Go to Mike’s ‘One Step into the Light’ for a very strong reference. All five of that classic Moodies’ lineup showed (at least) snippets of a Higher Power reference. Perhaps would have more but they were a rock band from England in the late ‘60s. They were secular like 98% of us; perhaps more. Listen to (late) Ray Thomas “Adam and I” or Mike’s “One Step into the Light”. ‘Preach it, brother!’
Quite possibly the most underappreciated "artiste" in the UK? A travesty!! At least equal to the great British songwriters, yes, including lennon & mcartney!
Some of my favourite songs too.....Blue Jays is my all time favourite album and can't be just be put on in the background, it has to be listened to. Love love love it.
Humans have been on the earth for perhaps 100,000 years. Look how blessed we all are to have been on this planet with this genius at the same time and ears to hear his wonderful music.
That Blue Jays album was fabulous!! I had it on vinyl as soon as it was released & decades later bought it on CD. Supposedly the band was breaking up (rumor at the time) so I grabbed it as soon as it came out. Of course they went on to make several more albums.
No doubt about it. Justin Hayward is surely one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all times. Same level as Lennon/McCartney. My favorites: New Horizons and Driftwood. But tomorrow I will choose two other songs..!😉
I always thought that "THis morning"captured the Moody Blues sound even tho i know it was just John and Justin.Must be the strong mellotron thru-out the song.Cant you just see Mike playing it?Bravo!!!
I've seen lots of these MB videos & seen them in concert more times than I remember & one of my favorites is the haunting Forever Autumn. When I first heard that song I belonged to their fan club & bought the 45 rpm (anyone remember those?) from some guy in France, thinking I might never see this again. After that I was in a grocery store here in Mpls., Mn. & hear an instrumental on the store music system. I stopped shopping & camped under a speaker with a smile on my face til it was done. Needless to say, I have many versions of this wonderful song now.
These guys didn't have to smash guitars on stage or ride motor cycles through their LA hotel or trip out on drugs in public, all for attention as other bands did. Did they hang out with the Beatles etc? Of course. Even gave 'em a few ideas along the way. No, the Moody Blues, especially after Justin and John came along, was the epitome of poetry and artistry and expression musically. A thinking man's band, if I may.
First concert I took my daughter's to (5&11 yrs old). 2d generation fans to this day. The music and words (that you can always understand) are the extreme poetry in music. 50+ yrs of the Moody Blues and finally in the R&R HOF. Been a fan since Nights in White Satin. All members have contributed together and as individual artists.
Thanks for sharing. It seems to me that music can bring out the best in people. As I search through my collection from the 60's on wards, I'm amazed at how much beauty there is. Lyrics, harmonies, use of orchestral instruments and arrangements. I never considered myself a poetry lover but say, I guess that there is fine poetry in many of the songs. I see that era as a high point in the evolution of music in terms of beauty and innovation. .
Really appreciated. I'm working through my songs to pick out the very best. If you have any suggestions for improvement, you could contact me through my channel.

The two best in this post are "Land of Make Believe" and "Nights in White Satin." Next in line would be "This Morning." I played "Nights Winters Years" when I first bought _Blue Jays_ and at first I thought it was a wonderful production; but later on I kinda soured on it. Just seemed a little melodramatic and perhaps an overreaching attempt to capture the impact of "Nights in White Satin." Since then it hasn't been high on my list of Hayward's best compositions. But "Land of Make Believe" certainly is, as are all of the songs off of _Seventh Sojourn._ That might be their best of the Classic 7 albums, as tough as it is to rank those.
I can more or less go along with that. I chose NWY as my second best song on the album (next would be "I dreamed last night") plus it is a unique sort of sound, taking pop/classical synthesis to the limit....and a bit beyond. So yes, a little over dramatic. LP's would be a toss up with Seventh Sojourn. I might just go with "To Our Children's Children" .
Astral projection very much into King Arthur's World too The Land of Fairies and other past Worlds. Carry the Word by the Ancient Ones information Justin has received by magically means.
Jim Uren his first name was really David, but I guess he was always called Justin. It’s not unusual. Both my father and brother go by their middle names.
Thanks. Doubtless a different Gloria but "Rainbow" Glo admin'ed a beautiful Moody Blues chat site, now inactive. www.tapatalk.com/groups/starrynights/moody-blues-f66/
Justin was a great songwriter. But he is not better than Lennon & McCartney. The Beatles changed music forever. The volume of songs they wrote will never be equaled. I love Justin but...I do love all 4 songs. They are awesome!!!
Thanks James. The Beatles and Moody Blues were both great, but in different ways. The Beatles had lots of neat songs and I think that their live/stage performances were the best. But several of the Moody Blues/Justin Hayward studio performances touch me at a far greater depth. (The closest that I come to appreciating "orchestral" music) Which makes them really special for me.
@@60sfanatic Yes, the music of the Moody blues reaches into my soul and revives what I lost. Angelic voices exist in Justin Hayward and the Moody Blues. The Beatles feed my mind and the Moody Blues feel my soul. My searching for the medication to bring me out of a wasted slumber leads me to the music of the Moody's. Peace unto you.
I met Justin in Birmingham in the early 80s. A good and successful musician he is but a genius he is not. As we were alone, we chatted for about twenty minutes. He lives in Sussex, travels to America where his music has always been popular, named his daughter Doe rei mi and sent her for an American education. Into a bit of every superstition, he and John Lodge do give the impression they eventually contracted the Jesus bug and feel at home in the US of A. No a musician but not a genius not even a musical genius.
Yes spiritual, whatever that would mean and with the Beatles the Moody Blues were the only music the followers of Charles Manson were allowed to listen too. Clearly Manson found another spiritual, transcendent meaning in their lyrics. One should listen to their accounts of the meaning of some of their lyrics and not the meaning one superimposes on to their songs. Enjoy the music, stop being a silly Billy and learn to apply the word genius more suitably.
I would have thought that the application of the term is a matter of personal opinion. And I have a right to mine? I can't think of any other musicians off hand that I would apply it to. Maybe the Roxette composer. Elton John showed glimpses early on. How about you? Any examples?
The moody blues are the best band ever. Better voices than the Beatles. .💕🇺🇲ya what he said.
I think so too.

Justin Hayward wrote so many great songs. Love the Moody Blues.

wonderful words sir , totally agree with you hes a blessing on this planet
The soundtrack of my life. Best band ever and forever. Keeps me On the Threshold if a dream!!
God has blessed Justin Hayward and Mike Pinder, Ray Thomas, John Lodge and Graeme Edge. Other worldly sounds coming off their instruments and voices.
Saw Moody Blues in New York in 1964, my first rock concert and was hooked from their first song. Justin Hayward had and has the most amazing voice.
Justin Hayward sure is a genius love your selection of some of his wonderful songs ❤
Justin’s song I Dreamed Last Night is such a beautiful song.
Yes, that's another one
So lucky to have met this wonderful man several times over the years, a genius

The book end songs are genius works, but the 2 in the middle???
Good Work but in (Discography) War Of The Worlds is not here
abduction probably..... the group search information
The Beatles were bubble gum while the Moodies were your meat and potatoes. Much more depth in their music.
Have you heard?

Best of M.B.
