Rory was a uniquely brilliant multi-instrumentalist (guitar, mandolin, harmonica, alto sax, electric sitar), songwriter and vocalist from Ireland. Sadly, he passed away in 1995 from an infection after having a liver transplant. He left us with an extensive, very diverse catalogue of music - released 14 albums as a solo artist from 1971-1990 and prior to that 2 albums with his band Taste. His live performances are legendary. I saw him live once in 1978 and no one I've seen before or since comes close - no one else like him. He is known for expressive blues and raw rock - but his songs are also infused with an eclectic mix of jazz, folk, funk. His acoustic guitar is as outstanding as his electric playing. Rory could get more sound and emotion out of a guitar than anyone else - what you felt after listening to the outro of this song is the tip of the iceberg. He influenced many well-known guitarists: Brian May, Alex Lifeson, Slash to name a few. The Rolling Stones had him on the short list to replace Mick Taylor when he left the band. Anyway, thanks for checking out Rory, so much to explore with him, hope you continue on the Rory musical journey. Keep on... I saw Rory Gallagher live in the late 70s. It was insane! The man put his heart and soul into every show he performed. He was so intense that about halfway through the concert he nearly lost his voice, but he kept on pushing and fighting through it, feeling every single note he played and every single word he sang. The guy was one in a billion. An amazing artist!
How in gods name was Rory not a huge star in the US? People who were close to him said he sidestepped everything that would have made him a superstar. He was huge in Europe, and he sold 30 million albums world wide.
Simple, really. According to his brother, he refused to be more commercial minded and was not into the business side of it at all. You gotta make amends if you want to be more popular. He refused to do it. Whether that was good or bad it's up to anyone's guess. For me, this is a clear case of being too pure and hurting his chances at achieving a higher level of success.

Great reaction to the incomparable Rory Gallagher! Rory both singed and played guitar he was considered one of the best guitar player of all time, if you loved that song check out Overnight Bag , Easy Come Easy Go or Edged in Blue.
Yes! You got the feeling of the song exactly right...and Rory was the guitarist. Irish Rory was a force of nature and you do need to check out his stuff. He played both electric, slide and acoustic guitar, mandolin, electric sitar, harmonica and sax. He was rooted in the old original blues but he took it in so many directions. Calling Card is a favorite of mine. There's a ton of Rory on UA-cam so explore and we'd love to see your reaction. There's nothing Rory fans love more than seeing people discover his genius (and yes, he was counted up there with Hendrix and Clapton and was even pursued by the Rolling Stones).
@@MoMoMyPup10 always good to broaden your horizons, his live performances were incredible. One thing about Rory is that even at the height of the troubles , with bombs going off .He would still play in Belfast ,he would not let his fans down.

Hello from NB, Canada. Was out looking for tunes and this came up. Kudos to you for reacting to Rory. Not many do. He's an Irish Guitar legend and a Musician's musician. He's the singer and only guitarist. He also plays the Mandolin and Harmonica. There's a statute of him in Cort, Ireland. I would suggest you look for this title.: Rory Gallagher - Do You Read Me (Rock Goes To College, 1979). Enjoy your journey
You won’t go wrong Angela by reacting to Shadow Play, Tatood Lady, Bad Penny, he was a phenomenal guitarist. Miss him very much thank you for what you are doing. Let’s keep good music alive.
Rory is one of the few musicians which can hit my heart, Excellent guitar player beautiful singing- a one of a kind. He has so many songs that are remarkable. The whole Irish- Tour stuff is very very good.
It's always refreshing to hear Rory's softer sounds/songs reacted to. It's in these songs that you begin to see the entirety of his persona. I think too many people cling to the live heavy explosions of sound and deny themselves a true understanding of his equal love of 'quiet'. When you know quiet Rory, you appreciate the barnstormers even more. You understand he loved all moods.
Try For The Last Time from the same album and There’s a Light from Deuce. Then you can start on Live In Europe, Irish Tour 74, the OGWT session, Rock Gies to College, Rockpalast and Live in Montreux DVD
Nice reaction and good song for you to start on the Rory journey.More of a timeless classic than a song of the 70,s.Daughter of the Everglades might be a good choice for your second Rory reaction.
Even Hendrix needed a band to accentuate the beauty of his guitar movements. Here too, Rory has such a sharp, clean cut to that sound but also, that drummer churns it up.
