Imagine designing these places, not knowing that 20 years from now they will still mean so much to so many people. I mean, isn't that the greatest accomplishment?
For me the most memorable place was the one in the main quest when you first enter one of the Sixth House hideouts. The Sixth House had been hyped as something so scary, so naturally walking into the belly of the beast for the first time felt terrifying. *(Early main quest spoilers)* The red lighting, deformed enemies, and at the end getting infected with corpus. As a kid I thought my character would turn into one of the monsters in the cave, throwing away all the time and experiences I'd had with him. That felt gut wrenching for a kid who didn't really understand how games work.
The place I'll always remember that stood out the most to me the first time finding it was this little unassuming cave that I found by mistake. I don't remember what it was called, but speaking of story telling, this cave was so awesome for just that reason. You make your way down these narrow tunnels, and then out of nowhere you're in this huge underground cavern with water on the floor, and in the center, a huge viking longship. Like, how the heck did this get here? As you explore it, you realize it was the burial site of some important Nord. The ship is covered in gold weapons and other valuables, and in the center is the long decayed skeleton of a man. So good!
I wish i can play Morrowind again for the first time. All these years i couldnt sit down and play Skyrim or Oblivion from start to end, but Morrowind i absolutely could. I remember the first time i defeated Dagoth Ur, how epic was Akulakhan's collapse, the feel of accomplishment i had when i exit Vivec's palace and saw the city from the top of those stairs with Kagrenac's tools in hand. Morrowind is not a game, its a journey.
I played this the first time when I was in my mid-20s. But I felt like a little kid when got to Vivec city and saw Baar Dau suspended in mid-air by, well, nothing.
All you people did really good with this. Its amazing and very impressive. My 2 favorite memories of MW were the character creation that you do at the start. So many choices and options. Then I remember getting my butt kicked by some guy in a cave/dwemer ruin and he had the most beautiful armor on. I had to return many levels higher and found he was wearing Ebony armor and it became mine. Took me awhile to get the set or most of it as I recall but it was an awesome experience.
One of the most memorable moments was making it up to the Urshilaku camp for the first time. After hopping from town to town as far as I could I walked, and hearing the woodchimes, speaking to the people...I don't quite know how to describe it, it captured me and had part of my heart ever since
Man I can't wait for skywind, I couldn't get into morrowind because of the dice system and old style engine. But skywind will give me the chance to experience this world, story and characters for the first time.
Balmora was always my favorite city. The design, the feel, everything about it makes it such a well designed city. Every playthrough I kill Ra'Virr and use his house as a base. The mages guild having the blue lights in it. The many bars and eateries which, to be honest, are really not that "functional". Morrowind is the perfect mix of the alien, fantasy, medieval, colonial (the empire) setting. I can't understate how perfect I think this game's world is. The mechanics may be old and clunky at times, but I know them so well that I don't get angry at it anymore.
I always felt like, due to the design of Balmora, that if you had a realistically sized city, it could basically be its own setting, placed entirely within the confines of Balmora.
Very glad to hear from you guys again! I've decided just last week that SkyWind is the one thing that will get me to play Skyrim again. "Chased by a cliff racer". Yes but no. Whenever I used a speeding up spell and it wore off, I'd usually turn around to find very much more than one cliff racer on my tail. In one notable case, there were seven, lol. The shrieks still haunt my memories. About the dungeons: one thing that had me smile at times were the names given to certain interior cells. "The Teeth that Gnash" and all that. My memories hold a special place for the Sheogorath Isles region. How there was basically nothing there, except the mud and lichens, these huge mushrooms, a nix hound minding its own business and -- most importantly -- the thick fog that slowly revealed all of this as I let my character trudge along. Honestly, the worldbuilding, flora and fauna design done in Morrowind remain among the best I've ever seen. So much so that the bears, trolls and wolves of Bloodmoon and Oblivion seemed cold-water-shockingly mundane and boring by comparison.
This is the best thing I could've hoped for, as a gamer I mean! I am still playing this masterpiece and it had and have so much impact on my life! I don't know how to express an accurate picture of my feelings, my view in this matter ... so ❤🔥 I am truly thankfull for all the work you are doing, the passion and love!
The nice thing about being a young elder scrolls fan is being able to have that special first time experiencing morrowind, even 20 years after the game was released. Every time I convince myself to return and keep going (as much of a masterpiece it is, it is still a product of its time with the controls and combat) I never regret it because one thing that never gets old is just how massive feeling and fantastical the game is, not to mention the quality of storytelling and lore.
I remember when I found the Valley of the Incarnate for the first time after searching for it for hours. Few moments in gaming have made me feel so good.
Grazelands is my favorite "zone" something about rolling plains is just beautiful. Favorite city would be sadrith mora or tel mora, they make the mind wander. Beautiful game with some of the best memories
I agree, the Bitter Coast region is amazing in its drearyness. I remember installing the official ambient sounds pack that made it even better with toad sounds and insects chirping. It made the region come to life even more so.
Balmora's architecture always reminded me of a backwater planet in Star Wars. I love it. Funnily enough, there's a planet in Star Wars called Balmorra.
I always like the Vos/Telvos area. The fact that the Wizard there saw Imperial castles and said "yeah I can do that" and then got a screwed up twisted mushroom castle is awesome, plus it's the only Telvanni settlement not on an Island.
Your entire team is Fuckin killing it. Keep up the great work! I can’t wait to jump into this project but I sincerely hope you all take your time on it.
I'll never forget my first foray into Ihinipalit. The game had been fairly quiet as far as voice acting went. Everybody just had a few spoken lines. Suddenly I'm touching this giant statue and this Mad God Sheogorath is speaking to me in a booming voice. After a hundred hours of quiet, I was blown away, and shocked.
This video made me weirdly emotional. Seeing the side-by-side comparisons of the same locations in Morrowind and Skywind, I couldn't help feeling like the Skywind versions are how I REMEMBER the world I explored when I was 13, and which got me into video games. When I look at original Morrowind, I think "man, it's weird how simple and dated this looks, when it doesn't look like that in my memories at all", and then I see the Skywind versions and it's the game I actually remember playing. It's like you reached into my brain and made the version of Morrowind that only exists in there.
This bought a tear to my eye 🥲 Elder scrolls games are beautiful beyond comparison. Truly a remarkable accomplishment light-years ahead of all other RPGs.
Sadrith Mora will always be my favorite. As a die hard Telvanni, it always just feels like home. And the little Empirial fort area on the outskirts, perfectly contrasting the gorgeous alien architecture of the Telvanni mage towers.
Thank you! Your work is amazing! In 2002 Morrowind was the dream come true game, i always want to an fps open world game and the Morrowind gave me much much more than a game. And now you guys give me again the morrowind uniqe fleeings!
It surprised me no one pick Ald'ruhn We had this in Xbox back in 2003/4 Even in those days this havent the best of graphics, neither for console or PC but didnt need it, the level of inmmersion was insane, I remember playing with my old brother, getting really hooked by the narrative, when we got into Ald'rhun it was like... (Im a non Star Wars fan) it was like going trough the same journey as the main character, the inmmersion was insane, details everywhere, the sense of a living town even thou the robotic animations, it was, and still really something else Yes the other locations where incredible too, but Ald'rhun for me was the first one that told me, dude you wont have something like this till the next 20 years Thank again all the team, just like the original people, you are making history Happy bday Morrowind 🙌✨🎉🎂🎁
I'm infinitely more excited for this than I am for elder scrolls 6. There's so much love and care being put into this project, and it shows more and more with each update. I haven't felt this kind of giddy excitement since I was a kid waiting for the release of a new Zelda game. Take your time to make this the best it can possibly be, and thank you so much for all the time and effort the team has put into this over the years.
If ever I still get to live until this pretty huge mod gets released, I'd turn off map markers and disable vanilla Skyrim fast travel to get that perfect Morrowind experience. This mod is astounding 🤧♥️ kudos to all the members of the modding team working hard to make this dream project come true.
For me, the one thing that comes to mind with morrowind is kogruhn. That level is beyond terrifying if you actually take the time to explore the lore, and there's so much lore in that one location alone. From the stacks of chairs and tables to the cryptic messages and symbols on the floor, that dungeon is by far the best part of the main quest, and I always look forward to it every playthrough
The lava is incredible. So much focus is given to the Red Mountain, it would be a shame for the lava to be lackluster, but I think it looks absolutely beautiful! Well done!
The first time I played Morrowind was rather late, after watching Skywind's "Call of the East" trailer. I'd heard about the game before and never took interest because of the dated looks, but that trailer captured the mystique of this strange land so well that I decided to try and give it a go. It very quickly became one of the more memorable experiences I've had with games and I finally understood why it's so special. So thank you guys not only for devoting so much to this project, but also exposing many people to this wonderful world.
I was one of those people who started playing elder scrolls with skyrim and it was very difficult for me when I decided to try morrowind but as time has passed I find myself wanting to play morrowind more than skyrim.
@@cassettetape7643 And its so easy to just jump back in with a new character. No long wagon ride or sewer escape, just land at seyda neen and go on your way.
heck yes. I've been pretty invested to Morrowind now, particularly that I've added the Tamriel Rebuilt mod. Gods it's so magical unlike anything. I myself can say I'm *Skyrim-clean* for 1 year and 5 months now
I still remember playing this game when i was 13 years old, exploring unknown back then i had hard time understanding English so following the main quest was a nightmare. Sometimes my older brother had to help me navigate trough the game. Happy birthday Morrowind and amazing job too all who had contributed to the amazing modding community trough all this years in any Bethesda titled game. I hope too see Skywind getting released before Elder scrolls 6 hits so we fill the void of waiting for another Elder scrolls game :)
Loved this. Initially followed this project in 2014, but have been looking at Morrowind conversion mods since Oblivion's release. Hope to lend my voice as a male Dunmer if a position is still open when my life gets less busy. I'll try to audition.
For me, Ald-Ruhn became my home in Morrowind, I actually lived out of one of the bedrooms in the mages guild for the longest time. Seeing the "amazing" Dreugh Shield and Helmet in Meldor's in Balmora, with their crazy armor class and wondering if I'd every make enough gold to afford either. The Bridge to Arkngthand. Finding my first piece of Dwemer armor (a bracer) that made my Imperial and Steel armor seem like a joke by comparison. Lot of memories.
I remember the first time I played and after what what felt like a long and treacherous journey I came across Fort Moonmoth. I then looked at the map and saw little of the world I'd travelled.
I remember being in early high school back in 2007, I was captivated by this alien exotic world, it was a cool fantasy experience. I played the game in English, which is not my first language, and it boosted my vocabulary and text analysis skills because I had to read through every dialogue proactively.
I can relate to Dan's experience: playing a game like Morrowind without no English knowledge just make it more scary and alien 😅 I wasn't able to finish the main quest or any quest at all to be honest, the exploration meant everything to me back then. Great video and amazing work!
Morrowind is just my most favorite game. It's astounding what is already possible with modding and third party stuff to make it look more modern and more beautiful. Love the remake of it with Skyrims engine.
Ghost gate for me is no joke. Played morrowind when I was 8 had no idea what I was doing besides exploring an alien world but ghost gate was truly something I was afraid of back then and i would only go through to peak through because I was terrified of what was on the other side. Never finished the game until I got much older and understood the game. Morrowind gave me an experience that can’t be created again for me and it will always be one of my favorite games because of its immersion
I don't know what else to say but... I honestly can't wait, I watched people work on this project day and night since I was at high school and it's going to be 8 years since, I am super hyped and I really hope that both Skywind AND Skyblivion are gonna get the spotlight they rightfully deserve.
Definitely feel the same as Dal about the Ghostgate and how scary it was venturing inside the fence even for just a few minutes. Same kinda similar feeling when entering an oblivion gate in Oblivion
When i 1st heard of skywind i was so excited bcoz i always wanted to play morrowind but thought it was too old and i couldnt get into it without actually giving it a chance. I now love morrowind and am on my 4th playthrough yet im still just as excited to play skywind itll be like experiencing morrowing all other again truly a brand new tes game. Im gonna get a pc just to play this when it comes out!
I was taken by the Wizard Lord Mushroom Castles as well. Although I loved all aspects and factions in Morrowind, the Telvanni and their homes were what I was most drawn to. Even in a somewhat recent Morrowind run, I couldn't resist, I had to make a Telvanni Wizard, go build my own Mushroom Castle, and just embrace the region.
Still would love to finally get my hands on this mod when it's done. You'll probably need to do a 20 year old video celebrating it's development by then, but I'd still play it.
"Cor Angar" is a voice actor for Morrowind conversion :) I remember holywars back in a days when people argued which one is better - Gothic or Morrowind. Both turned out to be golden classic that stood the test of time.
im genuinley amazed by how addicted i am to morrowind right now. it makes me proud tbh. ive tried to play morrowind and enjoy it forcefully for about 8 years now and never made a dent. only ever got to cacius in balamora then opted out. the combat was jarring point. installed accurate attack and buffed up the damage now im on 30 hours and enjoying the HELL out it. obviously skyrim is a general improvement but NPCs have way more value to me in morrowind. their generally useful in their dialogue. the RPG complexity of morrowind really highlights skyrims simplicity that i was otherwise blind too which will only make me crave a new experiance within skyrim to make it more RPG orientated with mods on my next play through which i honestly thought wouldnt happen seeing as i have 3000 hours+ on skyrim. and now with skywind i have never been more excited
Only thing I'd have to say beyond how much I love the project is...don't get caught up in feature creep! It's always easy to keep adding more and more to a project and never get to a release, so I hope there is a definable goal marker for release, and then additional features can be added in after.
Really can’t wait to see Ald Velothi! There’s something about that town that I just really like, it’s humble, nothing really going on there, it rains a lot (or at least it’s rained whenever I’ve been there), and it’s just tucked away in the north. It has a unique atmosphere, at least to me it does.
I’m 22 now and this was the first pc game I remember seeing and then playing. I was around 5. My oldest brother had it and showed me when he played in Balmora.. and that was it. I fell in love in the game. And it was a huge part of me. I still play it now sometimes when I have spare time.. I have discoverrd every house, every place on the map.. and when I see video like this or hear music I am so grafeful of having these memories from my very childhod that I just want to cry and put on the game again..and I just want to disappear in that world that just feels like home. It is so amazing to see other people relating to this. Thank you guys for making us re-live it. ❤️❤️❤️
My first playthrough was on the original xbox with a poorly taken care of corded controller. I had to sit in one position to keep from getting the disconnected message... lol. Wandering threw trying to become Arch Mage, and then on to defeat Dagoth Ur my first play threw took me 3 month's! It was insanely magical and frustrating all in one. I really hope to play this one day!!! Absolutely love what yall are doin!
Was having a particularly crappy day until I saw this, thanks for the video. Thanks to the entire team for their dedication to this project, can't wait to jump in
For me, Lost Kogoruhn. A truly lost location, once a proud Dunmer stronghold, now so abandoned to the blight, ash, and dust, that nobody even remembers where it is. There is no travel options that even place you remotely close to it, and yet you must go there to discover the forgotten evils within.
The most memorable place for me was the Lost Dwemer Checkpoint, where the Dragonbone Cuirass was stored. To me, it was very special not for what it contained, but for what it stood for. This was a place meant to be found by only the most adventurous and exploring players. It was out there in the middle of the ocean, far far away from everywhere else. When I first found it and the Lockpick Skill 100 door, I knew I had stumbled on a place of great legend, untouched by man or mer for thousands of years. Why was something hidden here, so far away for everywhere? I could only fathom in awe and no other game has given me that feeling ever again. This nostalgia trip is truly incredible.
It's a toss up between Gnisis and Ald'ruhn for me. By the time I was delving into the Gnisis Egg Mines and questing for House Redoran, I was fully engrossed in the world. Shoutout to Tel Fyr for coming in close at third. Glad to hear from the team behind this rad project.
I had really hoped to be able to play your absolutely wonderful work on this very day, alas, the dream has to wait a bit more. The worlding of the words is AMARANTH.

I don't know how to express an accurate picture of my feelings, my view in this matter ... so ❤🔥
I am truly thankfull for all the work you are doing, the passion and love!
The community is very grateful for your hard work, thank you, guys!
Thanks for letting me participate! Enjoyed sharing my weird childhood vampire memories.
Holy shit. I literally teared up. I hope this team realizes how proud the Bethesda community is of their work.
I always like the Vos/Telvos area. The fact that the Wizard there saw Imperial castles and said "yeah I can do that" and then got a screwed up twisted mushroom castle is awesome, plus it's the only Telvanni settlement not on an Island.
Man how long have we been watching trailers for this? It feels like it's never going to happen
It will happen. All this work wouldn't be done for it if it was just going to be cancelled.
Loved this - the VA's that appeared here have lovely voices, can't wait to have them in my game :)
Holy hell, Dom Tromans... I cannot wait to hear his voice work in the game!!!
Wow...Tel Mora just looks insanely good. Can't wait to touch Tel Uvirith once again
So odd I got the random feeling two days ago to load up morrowind add some mods and venture fourth. And todays it’s birthday. Love it.
This bought a tear to my eye 🥲
Elder scrolls games are beautiful beyond comparison. Truly a remarkable accomplishment light-years ahead of all other RPGs.
Happy Birthday Morrowind! And thank you Skywind Development Team
It surprised me no one pick Ald'ruhn
We had this in Xbox back in 2003/4
Even in those days this havent the best of graphics, neither for console or PC but didnt need it, the level of inmmersion was insane, I remember playing with my old brother, getting really hooked by the narrative, when we got into Ald'rhun it was like... (Im a non Star Wars fan) it was like going trough the same journey as the main character, the inmmersion was insane, details everywhere, the sense of a living town even thou the robotic animations, it was, and still really something else
Yes the other locations where incredible too, but Ald'rhun for me was the first one that told me, dude you wont have something like this till the next 20 years
Thank again all the team, just like the original people, you are making history
Happy bday Morrowind
🙌✨🎉🎂🎁
I'm infinitely more excited for this than I am for elder scrolls 6. There's so much love and care being put into this project, and it shows more and more with each update. I haven't felt this kind of giddy excitement since I was a kid waiting for the release of a new Zelda game. Take your time to make this the best it can possibly be, and thank you so much for all the time and effort the team has put into this over the years.
Thank you ❤️
ES6 is going to be woke, boring dog shit
Well done!
It's so nice to hear real people loving the game and understanding its charm even 20 years later 💞
I LOVED this hearing people talk about morrowind and their passion for it so many years of memories this game is just #1
My favorite area is Tureynulal. I'll never forget how absolutely terrified I was encountering an ascended sleeper for the first time.
I never gave Morrowind a try so the first experience will be captivating. Also Anna’s voice was amazing
The game is sneaky like that. I haven't played in years, yet I'm still addicted. It's the game I want to go back to the most!
Still open! Make sure to join our discord so you can get some feedback from the VA team as well!
Thank you for all the work you are putting towards this project. Sending love to the Skywind team.
No fast travel, no quest arrow, dangerous environment, alien like world , this game was perfection
Thank you so much for this trip down memory lane. I hope you have a Round 2 in the future just like this.
Very cool to see before and after clips of Vvardenfell
I remember the first time I played and after what what felt like a long and treacherous journey I came across Fort Moonmoth. I then looked at the map and saw little of the world I'd travelled.
What you guys are doing is incredible, thank you for bringing back to life the world we all love so much !
Yeah, Morrowind is equally good for finding and playing through quests and just largely ignoring NPCs and doing your own thing
Morrowind is just my most favorite game. It's astounding what is already possible with modding and third party stuff to make it look more modern and more beautiful. Love the remake of it with Skyrims engine.
How much longer must we wait for this beauty?!?!?!?!
I like that you guys shared those little moments with us. You guys are heroes to a Nostalgic gamer.
Thanks for bringing memories back. Ahh, a love place to stay and live in. The Morrowind. Best world you can ever had.
Can't wait to one day play this. Big thank you to everyone involved in the project :)
im genuinley amazed by how addicted i am to morrowind right now. it makes me proud tbh. ive tried to play morrowind and enjoy it forcefully for about 8 years now and never made a dent. only ever got to cacius in balamora then opted out. the combat was jarring point. installed accurate attack and buffed up the damage now im on 30 hours and enjoying the HELL out it. obviously skyrim is a general improvement but NPCs have way more value to me in morrowind. their generally useful in their dialogue.
the RPG complexity of morrowind really highlights skyrims simplicity that i was otherwise blind too which will only make me crave a new experiance within skyrim to make it more RPG orientated with mods on my next play through which i honestly thought wouldnt happen seeing as i have 3000 hours+ on skyrim.
and now with skywind i have never been more excited
Can't wait to start making ambient videos of Skywind for people to fall asleep to! It's looking very good!
Thanks to the old devs of TES and all the Skywind team!
Thank you for sharing. Balmora was also the first thing I saw at a friend's house. Such an amazing first impression
I love this video, when I played Morrowind as a kid, ALL of what the devs are saying was EXACTLY how I felt.
Was having a particularly crappy day until I saw this, thanks for the video. Thanks to the entire team for their dedication to this project, can't wait to jump in
ah distant memories of a forgotten childhood. Keep up the work you amazing people.
Tel Mora looks bloody stunning
Morrowind will always be my favorite old game full of nostalgia! Skywind is my most looks forwarded "new game"!!!
Wow! What a great video for a great game, indeed! The areas are so familiar, but with this new Skyrim graphics it looks new and magical! Happy Birthday, Morrowind! And keep going! Thank you for sharing your love to Morrowind with us!
