A Saxophone in a death metal song... I never even imagined it. I cannot stop listening to it now. You guys are amazing. Come to Europe, I will be there.
The sun leaves on its own A simple passage of the days that I have wasted I feel the summer slipping through These aging fingers Compelled to walk upon the same path that I have tread so long Still nothing changes A simple passage to a place that I have come to know I still remember A better time When the thoughts that we had connected Between our open eyes We say goodbye, to a life that's been mostly silent Erroneously lead Strive to complete myself It seems my work is never truly done I see your face, barely through the haze You see a life, erroneously lead There's hope in younger days There's warmth within the past that's so familiar I forget just why I came here I hope that you remember Home All this time I've wasted In my self-righteous anger Oh the years I've lost To this profound indifference I find my direction A solemn duty owned Mine, it is mine alone To watch this world expire Like machines, we embrace Cold limbs connect A silent, errored life Slipping into oblivion Lead astray through endless days Silent now, the words so loud My mind is drifting out Between perception of a dream and what is real Now all I have is lost with you I hope that you remember A better time When the lights were all so candescent That reached me from the sky We say goodbye, to a life within dead horizons Erroneously lead Strive to escape myself It seems my work is never truly done I see your shape, falter in the wake Of a life erroneously lead
This song is perfection, both musically and lyrically. As a high school English teacher, I’m also thoroughly in love with the fact that they managed to use the word “erroneously” in such an awesome way. Further proof that metal is smart! 😊
Very cool. There are a ton of people in the Death Metal scene that ARE actually English teachers themselves. You'll find a lot of fans of these extreme genres of music are big into literature and things like that.
That riff!! so fucking heavy yet simple. Also, absolutely love how you can clearly hear the bass on this track!!! Good job not pulling a metallica during and justice for all lmao
Exactly. It's simplicity is what I like about it. Everything else is off the wall insane, yet here is that chugging dun dun dun pounding into your head. Incredible.
I heard this album when it released just by chance, I'd never even heard of R.O.N. it was and still is like nothung i have ever heard. It was a strange and transcendental experience, not just music, i felt every note and word.. this album is the reason i am still here,, their music helped me sort my head and my life out and release a lot of unhealthy emotions. \m/ Rivers of Nihil, Thank you❤ (Ps. Even if shit feels bad now, someone out there cares for you and loves you deeply, Stay strong, live on😘)
What a great group of songwriters. Not trying to compare them to Lamb of God, but they have very similar 'in your face' aspects with the composition and flow of the piece. And the production is on point. Everything melds together; nothing gets lost. Keep coming back here, and that is why. My ass don't need rippin' solos and 32nd sustained blasts to be happy (although I do enjoy). Just solid, kick ass, beer drinkin', joint lightin', sweet lady makin' out, sweaty metal hug happy jams. 10/10, will recommend. Prost, from CT.
Can't explain what it is about this band, especially in this album that I love so much... The music gives me a feeling I can't describe; like a weird energy. It's crazy
This whole album is one of the greatest masterpieces in the tech death metal genre. The songwriting is so developed and mature, plus it has the technical skill present in any other metal release. Just fucking incredible.
@tybrosion All right, so give me some examples of better tech death metal albums (and I mean ones with not just technical skill, but unique and inspired songwriting like this album).
3:53 the fact that he engages the crowd during the solos and not just walk around wiping his face makes me day dream about being front row at one of their shows. Come to florida damn it.
@Palindromeda 33 I'm not saying they should be as big as Opeth, just that they're similar and I think Opeth got more attention for doing a similar job by the time My Arms came out. Maybe the next Rivers album will be their Blackwater Park?!?
@@DirMrsHQoftheScreamingGhouls u could say Owls is their "Still Life" where they start to get attention of the mainstream. BWP was the breakthrough for Opeth and if Rivers evolve that sound from Owls and hopefully keep the Sax they could get their breakthrough with the next album. Let's hope for that

I'm so happy for those guys! I mean when it comes to music we all have our subjective opinions and feelings, but I'm truly happy that so many people enjoyed this album so much! Just like I'm happy for the appreciation of Esoteric Malacology by Slugdge, only slightly behind Rivers for me last year!
I discovered this song around the time I was finishing reading a book called 'Remains of the day' by Kazuo Ishiguro (Nobel Prize winning author). Seems weird but the lyrics of this song go hand in hand with the ending of the book. Thinking about change and reflecting on a life 'erroneously led'. Pretty absurd to think of a reserved old English butler in relation to metal, but both pieces of work are ruthlessly existential. "Oh the years I’ve lost, To this profound indifference, I find my direction, A solemn duty owned" Think there's an award winning movie based on the book aswell..
I love how they tagged #Saxophone. Those searching for sax solos will NOT expect to come across this piece of genius.
We don't get many opportunities to tag #Saxophone - could not pass it up!
Right?? Hahaha
Unreal
Agreed. I really hope RoN sticks with the saxophone. I think it gives the band so much character.
ua-cam.com/video/rskb4MbrkD0/v-deo.html they also have sax
I think you're right mostly but this is exactly what I'm looking for when I search for saxamaphone.
This is the best use of the saxophone in metal, hands down. It is such a good fit, good sax. Consensual sax.
Yes! I want them to put out a "soft" death metal EP called Consensual Sax. There's money to be made there lol.
Everyone here is getting the sax they want, and the sax they've so desperately needed for so long.
Love this

Rolo Tomassi
Gojira, Rivers of Nihil, the Acacia Strain, After the Burial, and Bleed from Within have quickly become some of my favorite bands
Some serious talent on this list. All pioneers of their respective sub-genres. You have good taste.

Missing the best Tho 😜 Opeth!
Missing some 'shuggah on that list 🤘🏻

You guys are amazing. Come to Europe, I will be there.
Solefald has used saxophone in their music years and years ago.
Still, Rivers of Nihil is absolute genius at many many levels.
Ishahn has used them too and sounds quite similar to this . Emperor guitarist / vocalist solo thing
@@ape1821 Wow, someone else, who knows Solefald, that's awesome!
Thank you for the recommendations, guys, I will listen to them :D
panzerballett use a lot of saxophone, but they are more like jazz metal and pretty much instrumental
This drummer's skills has to be every metal music lover's dream
A saxophone solo in a metal song?! WOW! And the fact that they absolutely made it work musically says a lot about this band...and ALL of it is good!
It's amazing how simple the main riff is and it hits like a freight train.
This whole album is incredible!
I didn’t think a sax could go so well with metal this js fucking amazing
metal with a sax is that unlocked feature no one else needs to know but they fuckin need to know.
The sun leaves on its own
A simple passage of the days that I have wasted
I feel the summer slipping through
These aging fingers
Compelled to walk upon the same path that I have tread so long
Still nothing changes
A simple passage to a place that I have come to know
I still remember
A better time
When the thoughts that we had connected
Between our open eyes
We say goodbye, to a life that's been mostly silent
Erroneously lead
Strive to complete myself
It seems my work is never truly done
I see your face, barely through the haze
You see a life, erroneously lead
There's hope in younger days
There's warmth within the past that's so familiar
I forget just why I came here
I hope that you remember
Home
All this time I've wasted
In my self-righteous anger
Oh the years I've lost
To this profound indifference
I find my direction
A solemn duty owned
Mine, it is mine alone
To watch this world expire
Like machines, we embrace
Cold limbs connect
A silent, errored life
Slipping into oblivion
Lead astray through endless days
Silent now, the words so loud
My mind is drifting out
Between perception of a dream and what is real
Now all I have is lost with you
I hope that you remember
A better time
When the lights were all so candescent
That reached me from the sky
We say goodbye, to a life within dead horizons
Erroneously lead
Strive to escape myself
It seems my work is never truly done
I see your shape, falter in the wake
Of a life erroneously lead
man I never paid attention to how relatable this shit is
Thank you, kind sir

The best part of the song was the saxophone solo. Let’s be real
Yeah, for sure! That part and the aftermath after that, "ALL THIS TIME I'VE WASTED!", sick shit bro!
imo the intro and when the vocals come in but this is a song that is greater than the sum of its parts i think

Not gonna lie. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't have their sax player when I saw them.
He isn't actually in the band. He is a friend of the band. But yea that would be badass to see, he only played at his hometown show for them.
