Very informative tight produced video. I'm very new to this but you pointed me in the right direction. Just one question. Which model do you recommend for my Sony A7ii (I got a good deal on it so I bought this one instead of the iii)
Thanks for this video. Do you know if this will work with Canon 80D? Looking to film for longer than 1 hour.
Thanks for the great detail regarding the monitor.
Question:
I’m trying to make sure I understand you correctly. If I’m using the monitor to record my footage, let’s say SLOG3, and I turn on ATOM HDR then adjust the slider to (you said) 400-500, is the footage being recorded to the SSD with the HDR effect?
Or
Is the monitor just displaying the data being recorded and still recording to the SSD in SLOG3 for grading in post?
I’m purchasing a Ninja Flame 7 for my A7 III and I like know as much as possible before the new gear is in my hands.
Yes. I will take one. You have my PO Box. Thanks for convincing me, excellent review :)
😂 funny...you funny
thanks for sharing. You didn't show the samples for videos where difference in video-quality has been specified .. I mean how much difference is there between shooting it on SD card or externally?
Great video, did you think I can increase quality of my Sony a6400 with Ninja V or BM Video Assist ? I want a external recorder, I can’t use a external monitor for 4K 😺
Do you know of any more affordable alternative for external recording? I'd like to record 3 cameras at once, if it helps to guide me out.
Man, now I wish I had one of these. I was wondering how you were recording in DNxHD all this time.
This video also inadvertently answered something I was poundering for sometime. Why 10 bit videos still look better even on an 8bit display? So thanks for that.
Thank you for reviewing the Atomos 7", I was thinking buying a High End 4k -60fps. CCTV manual focus although 8mpx. thru AliExpress it cost about $662.79 do you think it is good ideal ?
what are these things called, im trying to find a lower end one that records because my camera overheats if its recording for too long... a lot of the ones im looking at i dont think actually record, theyre just a display monitor lol idk anymore
was honestly wondering what the hell an external recorder did exactly. thank you for the insight
Does this device support recording from a video mixer like livewedge?
Does the camera autofocus works when using external recorder?
Great info, thanks!
Etc? Which recorder is etc? I only know Atomos and Blackmagic. Is there any other with quality?
great video mate thanks!
Your audio is so great! is it an NTG4?
Some cheaper options, without screen?
Does your Ninja Inferno make a lot of noise when in operation? Namely the fans?
great vid.. awesome info thanks..
Recently, I assisted on a pro-video [paid] shoot and got to use the Ninja video recorders. ABSOLUTELY, this is essential equipment for all the reasons you've stated. I would recommend a camera bracket or separate stand, not cold shoe. Ninja touch screen software is ridiculously good.😍
Yeah the impact super clamps are good for it, no other arms would hold the weight. (I cover more in my review next week)
I just found your video. Where did you find the info about recording in 10 bit being better, even though the source is 8 bit?
even with 8bit, many cameras, like A7III for example can output chroma subsampling of 4:2:2 over hdmi even though they can just record 8bit 4:2:0 internally (due to compression and overheating reasons), I think that's what he means... - in the end it means a little better color ranges
How would it work on older HD cameras? Would you be able to record higher quality video on it if you had a lower quality camera feeding into it? Example, a Panasonic AF-100 or a ENG styled Panasonic AJ-HPX2700 Varicam.
It'll record whatever the camera sends to it. You can upscale in editing, results would be the same
Cheers man. Do you know the output for the G85? Thinking of getting a monitor but Can find info on the HDMI out.
It's the same as the G7 as far as I can tell
EposVox thank you.
Do you think that the new ninjaV of 5 inches is big enough for framing and as second monitor while editing?
For most people, probably yeah. I prefer the bigger size, but that's just me
what about your audio set-up? which one has the best audio quality? lowest noise floor, excellent ADC/DAC I am eying Video Assist 4K but it doesn't record onto SSD...
I haven't tested enough of them to be able to gauge which has the best. I prefer to also use a separate audio recorder, personally.
0:39 I wish it also had a USB to use as an actual capture card...
p.s. which Video recorder would you reccomend in 2021?
BM Video assist us also a capture card
@EposVox any chance you getting a RTX series card, ive been hearing they made improvements to the NVENC codecs giving it closer to x264 fast presets might be worth an analysis
Yeah trying to get my hands on a 2080ti
EposVox awesome, waiting on my delivery as well, supposedly according to a post on reddit we should be getting a official announcement through email regarding the delays on monday or tuesday
so I have been thinking about getting a red but would this be a better buy in your opinion
I mean, buying a video recorder and a $10k+ cinema camera are very different purchases for very different reasons lol
Very helpful!
Will these work with a Canon 70d, does it need a clean out, no display etc?
Any such recorder or capture device needs clean HDMI out, which iirc the 8pd does not support.
I just notice if I turn off the "info" button everything is clean except the record tally light, I wonder if that goes through to monitor ?
I will have to buy and cord and plug into a monitor screen and find out?
Yes
Will you need a 4k camera to record 4k with an external recorder monitor?
Yep
One quick question i hope you have and answer for it. Can i use it to capture console and live stream it to OBS as other capture card?
I mean, you transfer footage via SSD, it's not a direct capture card. So you can record console gameplay, yes, but not with OBS. It records internally.
@@EposVox alright and thanks for the quick reply. Keep it up man.
@@EposVox what do you recommend for 4k capture card used for live stream through obs. Although i want to play on 4k but stream on 1080p. Any recommendations?
If you want 4K capture as a future option, the AVerMedia Live Gamer 4K or Elgato 4K60 Pro.
If you never want 4K capture, Live Gamer Extreme 2.
@@EposVox thanks..❤
Excellent presentation!
Thanks for watching!
Have you used it as a screen or game play capture device?
Although I guess this might not work if it acts as a monitor, it would only record what's displayed on it, not what's happening on another monitor
I have used it to capture gameplay on it, yes. I mention that in my full review going up next week.
I'm very impressed by your mic sound. I know a lot is your great voice. But would you reveal wich mic you use?
Sennheiser MKH416 ua-cam.com/video/Zk86zComC64/v-deo.html
EposVox Thanks a lot!
Yea I wish I could afford any of those
This works great but if you shoot a lot of footage remember prores 422 is 5 - 10x the size of h264 and h265
Can I use a laptop for this instead?
Erm. I mean, you still need a capture device for that laptop. And the laptop won't give you scopes or zebras or focus peaking or anything. And your laptop won't really be capable of recording prores
Thank You For Getting St8 To The Point !!! ❤️🇱🇨
But don't you lose the ability to record in the *log format? (If the camera supports it of course).
Seems like the recording feature is a nice thing to have, but my guess on its usage is that, it depends on what you're going to shoot in the first place and how much you're going to fiddle with the footage in post.
Still, miles ahead than the classic 4:2:0 H264 garbage.
Nah, it supports
Sony SLog2 / SLog3, Canon CLog / CLog 2, Arri Log C,
Panasonic Vlog, JVC JLog, Red LogFilm, FujiFilm Flog
and probably others
I would just like to chime in that if your camera already shoots in ProRes (mine actually shoots in every form of the ProRes format) then this actually becomes a little more dicey, especially since mine exclusively outputs 4:2:0 over SDI (and it has no HDMI) but can shoot internally in 4:2:2. Do your research on whatever camera YOU have and make sure that a video recorder will actually benefit you.
Seeing EspoVox without a beard is trippin me out, but hey the look is hella clean bro
out of context comment: Your voice sounds awesome. I don't know if it's your audio setup that makes the difference, but there's just something about the lows.
Haha thanks :)
That's why I'm "EposVox"- it's Latin for Epic Voice
ohhhhh it all makes sense now
I agree.. the voice sounds so good, I missed the review .... smiles
I think you just saved my cannon t7 in every way
I'm pretty tempted to go for an Atomos Ninja V
It's great
This video's way over my head lmao
By video recorder do you mean a camcorder?
Or is it just a screen that you use with a camera? 🤔
I was so close to getting the Panasonic Lumix G7....while also considering a camcorder/video specific recorder cuz I need something to just put on a stand, record, and work.
For now I think I'll stick to the action cams I have 😂
I explain what it is after the ad spot at the start of the video.
Just go for the Panasonic G7! An fantastic and amazing value camera if you just are going to stick it on a tripod and record you
@@SoundSpeeding I'd prefer something that can record at least 45 minutes one clip tho. Eposvox told me you have to mod the G7 to do that. Idk. I might fuck up the camera trying lol
@@JpDubbed nah it is pretty easy to let the G7 record for longer, you just pop into the service menu to enable it. You'll be fine
You really must go with Panasonic rather than any other mirrorless if you want to record longer than 30 minutes
@@SoundSpeeding Hmmm, alright then. I thought you had to "mod" it in some way. I was also looking at the Sony A5100 and Canon M100.
I guess that's the trade-off then...APS-C and shorter record time or Micro four thirds and longer record time 🤔
Still waiting for AV1 support explosion!
That's more of a final delivery codec, not something you'd want on a device like this.
@ 4:19 Facebook Message :-D aha
My Ninja V is still not shipping!
RIP
"Believe me, it's worth it!"
- well sure, let's see
...
"I spent $1000 on it"
-ooh fuck off I was barely able to afford a used Nikon D3300
I don't know any terminology here, but your voice sounds very harsh with whatever microphone/editing you've got going on. It is very close to sounding nice, but its just somehow very harsh on the ears. Great video, and the good news is, you have a great voice, just needs something softened up a bit.
$1000 actually isn't that expensive for something like this. Video equipment used to be WAY more expensive in the day.
And high-end stuff is still far more expensive. but to the UA-camr/creator audience, anything that costs money is seen as too expensive lol
I can agree with that. The high-end stuff usually has that second mortgage pricetag that a major TV network or studio can afford. Most of my videos were shot with 2nd hand equipment (and it shows!). These video recorders used to be VERY expensive and hard to justify only a few years ago.
atomos ninja v is coming out soon!!
Yupp
@@EposVox may have pre-ordered :D also, the ndi expansion on it!!!
I saw that! They got some cool expansions coming.
definitely gonna have to see how it compares to capture card/obs stuff. seeing as the device supports 120fps in 1080p. maybe it could be a killer replacement
@@EposVox have you seen the new SHOGUN uugghhhh so good
great video (100000 likes) . but its youtube :D
Hey
FIRST
@@EposVox yayayay
Bro, Epos then vs now is weird man XD
