My favorite detail about this movie is the subplot involving the baseball. When Richard throws the ball out the window of Harlan's office, it triggers a series of events that ultimately leads to Linda finding the letter her father wrote. After it is thrown outside, it is found by Blanc during his outside investigation. He ends up throwing the baseball for the dog, who fetches it and brings it back inside. Towards the end of the movie, Linda takes the ball from the dog's mouth and returns it to its rightful spot on the desk in Harlan's office. Lo and behold, the letter is sitting right there on the desk. In other words, if Richard had never thrown the baseball through the window, Linda would have never found out that he was cheating on her.
@@moggybones8893For me when they mentioned the dogs barking the night of the murder and they bark at Ransom when he shows up, those paying attention know he had something to do with the murder.
The flashbacks for each person's story are filled with a lot of great touches to show they are unreliable narrators. When everybody tells their story they are sitting next to Harlan. It is clear how much they care about Marta from the get-go because none of them know where she is from, they all say different countries. They might perceive putting a plate down in their story but in Marta's you see they are handing it to her as if she's a server. This and the sequel, Glass Onion, are worth a couple watches to see all the nuances.
@@tragicdeyz2641 it's like comparing S1 and 2 of True Detective. S2 was good by itself, but you can't help but compare it to S1's masterpiece. not sure if Rian Johnson can capture that magic ever again.
I love this movie so much with a literal flip of a coin the movie changed from a " who did it" movie to " how is she gonna get away with it" movie and still has a twist villain
It jukes you out that way. It makes you think the movie has switched genres, which allows it to seed its true whodunnit right under your nose, without you even realizing that's what they're doing. That's part of why it's so brilliant!
Yeah, I fell for the genre switch, too! I often figure out who did it but enjoyed all the other stuff so much that I just accepted the shift. I was actually surprised that the movie surprised me with Evans being the bad guy 😄
Apparently the hardest thing Chris Evans had to do when playing this character was the moment where he DOESN'T pet the dogs when they run up to him - and he actually has to act like he's annoyed by the dogs. Because in real life Chris adores dogs and automatically pets them.
What kills me are all the small things the Thrombey’s do that show they don’t even see Marta as an actual person: -Walt not even listening to Marta when she says his name on the phone -Linda giving her the lightest condescending tap of a hug -Richard instinctively handing her his empty plate like she’s a maid and not his father in laws fucking nurse. (21:44) -Joni somehow not even noticing Marta standing awkwardly in the corner of Harlan’s study. -Walt not mentioning Marta was the one that called attention to the time in his testimony -NONE OF THEM KNOWING WHAT COUNTRY SHES FROM, every one of them says something different. Rian Johnson really made every last member of this family except Harlan the worst. Also YES ABSOLUTELY REACT TO BABY DRIVER. AND REALLY ANY EDGAR WRIGHT FILM.
and every single one telling Marta how sorry they are that she wasn't invited to the funeral and that they wanted her there but got overruled by the others
@PhantomLantern2814 well I mean everyone was pressuring her to do it and her schooling was on the line. She also apologized the moment she saw her again, which I think is pretty genuine. I would probably do the same in this situation tbh
In the movie, you can see the realization on Harlan face the moment he knew Ransom was behind the mixing of medications. The movie stated that Harlan and Ransom played games. Harlan was not going to let Ransom pin it on Marta to get the inheritance after he cut him out. He was going to win at all costs, even if it meant he was going to die.
that's an excellent point! I was wondering if Harlan, as an author of crime literature, figured out what was happening and had full control over the incidents that unraveled after his death. When Marta was counting off the symptoms that should come up in the next 10 minutes leading up to his death, Harlan didn't show any of these. That was very noticable to me - he's extremely intelligent and I couldn't believe that in his calm state, he wouldn't notice that he felt physically fine even though he was supposed to be close to death
That doesn't make any sense. If Harlan had known that Ransom switched the medications, then he would also know that Marta accidentally switched them back and he was fine. He would never have killed himself if he knew he wasn't actually overdosed.
I would love to see Chris Evans play more roles like this, I think he did so well in this. These are fun movies and I wouldn’t be opposed to a few more with a different group of celebs each time.
It’s kind of like Indiana Jones in that the movies don’t really follow a continual plot and you don’t need to know much to follow each movie individually. Classic. Fun characters and a new and interesting plot for each movie. I’m hoping eventually there’s a third one. Glass Onion was even better than this one.
Apparently the dogs really loved Chris Evans (he's a big dog person), and they had to do the shot of them 'harassing' him several times before they could get the dogs to stop wagging their tails interacting with him.
The ending of this movie was honestly very satisfying to me, maybe because all of the family is very unlikable which I'm pretty sure was the point but regardless it's cool
And Harlan *raised* these people. He knew they were terrible people. His cutting them all off was his eleventh hour, Hail Mary at trying to force them to grow up and actually stand on their own.
I think it gets even better on a rewatch, because then you can see all the little clues and the inconsistencies in how each character tells the cops what happened.
The whole thing with the baseball had nothing to do with the murder mystery: it was being set up to pay off Linda finding out about the affair at the end of the movie. She was only in Harlan’s office to put the ball back, and that’s when she found the note with the invisible ink. Had her husband not thrown the ball out the window near the beginning, she wouldn’t have gone in there and found the letter. It was done in such a way that you think the ball will play a part in solving the murder mystery, but it doesn’t.
I think Ana de Armas and Christopher Plummer are just absolutely lovely as a pair. I've seen this movie so many times, and rewatching the scene of Marta's flashback is just so perfect. Like LOOK at Harlan's FACE! UGGHHHHH MY HEART! You can tell that he just loves her so much, as his friend and like a daughter. Watch the way he looks at her! And Marta's expressions of distraught throughout are just so moving. RIP Christopher Plummer.
I love this movie (so much), so I thought I'd drop some tidbits about it y'all might not know if you (likely) aren't obsessing over this movie like me! 4:03 I'm in love with the entirety of the set, and the books in this shot are just another cool feature. Harlan's own books, if y'all didn't notice :) 7:53 Peep Meg's shirt LOL love it 8:15 Every time Blanc hits the key, he's telling the detectives to ask what time each family member arrived at the party 10:04 I'm pretty sure they only filmed this scene once, and man was it perfect. the lighting throughout this movie too is just so great 10:42 not really insight but these shots with the family photos helping to establish the groupings of the family members are cool, PLUS the carved elephants! ("Turn before the carved elephant. After the carved elephant. Beafterfore, the carved elephant.") 12:49 Rian Johnson (the director) commented that it's a pathetic throw too which is so funny to me!!! Supposed to show a petty little action! One that ultimately led to Linda finding out about the affair, because she finds the letter as she is putting the baseball back into place. 15:04 Quick note, but something y'all should look out for upon rewatch. These gorgeous eyelines for the camera, of placing the actors in a triangle/pyramid shape. Adds movement while also a sort of connectedness throughout the shot, and these triangle formations are very common throughout the film! 17:38 "There's so much of me in that kid" great line showing us how Ransom has that kind of mystery element to him, and thinks kind of like his grandfather does. The idea for a crazy murder scheme (and the way out of it) was thought up by him in a similar way to how Harlan thinks up his books. Something not easy for everyone, like as the detectives remark: "Cow and the shotgun? How do you come up with that?" 18:34 Rian Johnson really is pointing out to us another possibility to the situation we're watching. "If someone purposefully switched the medicine..." and yet I feel the end is still shocking. He does this a lot, which makes rewatching it feel so fun. Ransom's name is RANSOM for God's sake! 19:55 Marta climbs into the trick window in the same way that we see in the painting ON the window! 20:04 ONE OF MY FAV LINES "that an average cop will entirely dismiss you as a subject" because the detectives did completely dismiss Marta! 20:23 I don't think it was shown in this video, but there's a line where a family member says that "the ideas/plots [of his mystery books] would pop into Harlan's head fully formed," just like it did for him here! ugh so good 21:43 Don Johnson handing Marta the plate KILLS me-- especially because he came up with it himself. It's just so awful and shows exactly how Richard considers Marta "the help" rather than "a family member" as they all claim (and he even says at 9:02), just with one little gesture. 28:01 Originally the line was like "fuck you" or something but 'fuck' would have made the rating on the movie mature rather than pg-13 30:13 a line Jaedan Martell (Jacob's actor) came up with too. Snooty, racist, and perfect characterization. 31:09 THE BEST THING EVER. Subtle puns!!!! Marta needs to "SPILL THE BEANS!" either by telling the truth or literally vomiting beans. It took me a couple watches to notice and when I did I was like oh come on that's too perfect! 31:56 Peep Alan's assistant sleeping in the background because of just how long they've been arguing lol 38:01 Another cool shot-- Marta's hanging cross, and the reflection of the telephone pole looking like a cross in the glass. 40:29 Look at the table on the left side. They found a stature of two German shepherds for the set, like the two dogs the family has! SO GOOD 41:19 As Blanc uncovers what truly happened, his head fills the hole in the circle of knives. THE DONUT HOLE IN THE DONUT'S HOLE :D 42:50 Earlier Harlan said "why do men instinctually pull at loose threads on their parachutes" or something like that and here we can see that coming to fruition. If Harlan hadn't pulled at it, he would be alive. 43:20 Not shown in this video, but in the scene in the background you can see the jugs that you see used in the clip of burning down the examiner's office. 44:08 Great reason for the casting. We all trust Chris Evans, Captain America, right! Rian Johnson uses that to his advantage 100% 44:42 Another connection I LOVE! Fran yells: "I'm warning you!" Just like what Ransom said to Harlan in the study! There's a million and a half more things that I could talk about forever, like the floral patterns constantly throughout (tablecloths, clothes, curtains), to Blanc's little puns (the game's aFOOT (because he saw the blood on Marta's shoe). How they all say Marta is from a different country, and that they were each somehow "outvoted" on her invitation to Harlan's funeral. The metaphor of playing a game. The New Yorker article and tweet, the usage of apple devices, the Joseph Gordon-Levitt cameo. The set pieces that are references to other movies, the lighting and shot choices, the outfit choices. THE SCORE. I could write my honors thesis about this movie. Alas, poor Yorick, I don't have all day lmao. I hope some of these were interesting to y'all!
"We all trust Chris Evans, Captain America, right!" - The funny thing is that before Cap, Chris has played quite a few assholeish characters, or at least a lot less likeable, like in Scott Pilgrim, Sunshine and Fantastic 4.
Thanks for the list, I didn't even notice the most of it after rewatching the movie. After going through your list I noticed that directly after the shot with the cross in 38:01 , you can also see in 38:03 , in the reflection of the window donut shaped objects hanging on the wall of a building while they are driving along and at the same time the detective does come up with his theory of the case and compares it with "a case with a hole in the middle, like a donut".
29:06 if you pay close attention to the Harlan painting shots, you can see his lips slowly smile as they're (the detectives, etc) get closer to catching the true culprit.
The family pressured Meg to convince Marta to renounce the will. But Marta's willingness to still help Meg, especially after what Meg just said. Is why Meg hangs up. Not because she is greeding but because she cannot do that to Marta. But with her entire family looking on Meg couldn't say anything. And she also didn't want them to overhear Marta say something either
Interesting, I interpreted her completely different. She was nice to Marta but she was also very much enjoying her allowance and there are some clues that she knew about her mother stealing from Harlan… I thought her phone call was supposed to be that aha moment. That she still values money over fairness/kindness/truth/… I get that she was pressured but after that scene she doesn’t really seem to honestly care about Marta but only keeping the money
There is do much detail that you won’t catch on first view. When Blanc first meets Marta on the porch, you see him look down at her shoe. When Marta goes to Ransoms place to show him the letter, you see the row of bottles with one missing, the one he used to fire bomb the ME office. In the flashback, they show the full row of bottles.
Besides what everyone here already stated in the comments (the immense amount of awesome details and such) I love this movie to bits because everytime I get chills when Blanc tells Marta that if Harlan had just listened to her he would still be alive and in all the chaos she still picked the right medicine because she is just THAT good of a nurse. It's like you said, the good person won. After all everyone in the movie tried to get money or "win" but she just tried to not end up in prison and was still a good person f.e. when she tells Blanc that nobody of them is a murderer in her eyes. It's so satisfying. Also you basically think you know how it went in the first 10 minutes but you as a viewer root for her it's so great!
The thing with murder-mystery movies is that usually the biggest star is the murderer. But in this movie, they are all megastars. Captain America may have stood out a bit to some because he is "too much of a good boy" but then the so-called murderer is reveal. So, then the question becomes why and how, which is often more interesting than who.
I binged all of Alex's videos and seeing him transiton from "I'll only EVER do an ad if it genuinely benefits you guys" to promoting gucci mystery boxes is hilarious 💀 get your bag bro 🤘🏻🧡
If you really loved this movie as much as you say, here are some other great murder mysteries ranked: -1- Murderer on the Orient Express -2- Clue (1985) -3- Glass Onion -4- Death on the Nile
@@marcbrunson6986 haunting in venice was really really good! way, way better than death on the nile. it’s very beautiful and stylistic (although the dutch angles were overkill lol), and i love how they went with a spooky, fantasy feel to it.
15:23 Joni is sitting on the floor meditating, and she chants "Shrim." This is a mispronunciation of the bija mantra "Shreem" for Sri Lakshmi, goddess of fortune and wealth. Joni is meditating on wealth, but is too ignorant about the tradition to pronounce the mantra correctly. HUGE characterization in this one syllable. Incredible writing.
21:45 I love this detail where he just casually hands Marta the empty plate as if that's the natural thing to do. Keep in mind, she's a NURSE, picking up his plates is not her job. It just shows how he sees an immigrant worker without him having to state it
It's revealing that the detective asks if anyone other than the family was there and Linda (JLC) includes Harlan's mother on that list. She doesn't consider Harlan's mother to be part of the family? Why, because she is old and her mind isn't what it used to be? Terrible.
Bruh, imagine being the doctor that told Marta that Fran died XD Doc: yeah, uh. Fran died. Marta: Thanks doc. That's great news. *hangs up* Doc: wait wha-?
Yeah, this movie is gem. And also it's very cool to see how Chris Evans plays a bad guy. I guess after playing Cap for years, he just sits and enjoys playing villains and he's damn good at it. There's another movie where Chris plays main villain - The Gray Man, it's f*cking awesome, you should check it out. ) P.S.: I like dogs, but i'm not dog fanatic, and i REALLY hope that at least some of you understand the difference. )
I loved the movie. Great directing, great script, great atmosphere, and if that wasn't enough, you have Marilyn Monroe, James Bond, Captain America, General Zod, Screaming Laurie, James Crockett, Lynn Sear and Captain von Trapp in the same movie. What a cast!
This is a great movie and Glass Onion is very different from it, but also so amazing in its execution and what it pulls off. I think you'd enjoy it a lot, too!
I do think there are directors who are better at making their own original projects than they are at working with pre-existing IP. Original projects give them a level of freedom that properties like Star Wars can't really afford them because they're restricted by crafting a story that fits within the rules and formulas of those IPs. Some directors can find that to be a major hindrance to their storytelling ability.
I'm a dog person, one of our dogs is a small Border Collie who we bought as a puppy from a farmer who didn't need all the litter, her parents were working dogs. Our other dog is a big wolfdog that we helped rescue with our boat after he'd been abandoned on a riverbank, and he's the most chill rescue dog I've ever seen, really loving and non aggressive.
Fun Fact: the guy that played the attorney who read the will was Frank Oz, who was the voice of Miss Piggy, Fozzie, etc. from the Muppets and Yoda from Star Wars
My favourite small detail is that, when Blanc first meets Marta after opening the door while she was eavesdropping, the VERY FIRST THING he does.... is glance down at her shoes. God this movie is so good.
Knives Out is genuinely such an incredibly well thought out and amazing film. I truly was mind blown by the amount of twists and turns and just incredible writing when I first watched it. Chris Evans did incredible as Ransom, it's cool to see him tap into a "bad guy" side. Ana De Armas killed it too! Fun fact about the movie, Chris Evans loves dogs in real life - so having to act as if he hated dogs during that one scene sucked for him he said. 😂
i like meg, she actually has potential to be a good person, she just has selfish POS family whispering in her ear. she admires harlan not for what he's accomplished but because "he's a genuinely selfless person." she's the only one of the thrombys to actually be conflicted and before her mom made her afraid, she was for not fighting marta for the money, and then clearly feels shitty after their phone call. she also apologizes first thing after marta comes back. she's still a teenager (a privileged, sheltered teenager at that) and she's still learning who she should trust and listen to. she just needs to break from her family and i think she'd genuinely be set to fully commit to being the person she clearly wants to be
@hellbunniez3 She probably decides to change her major to support herself And goes the class half time. That way she has to support herself but still go to school longer Maybe even try to earn martas trust again
@@moneylover318 considering Marta hugged her even after that terrible phone call, Marta may actually support her schooling, either entirely, just through high school, or maybe paying half while meg pays the rest, whether through a job or scholarships. Out of anyone, I can see Marta still wanting to be there in some capacity for meg and meg actually being willing to work with her. Of course, being careful to not let joni have access to anything
@QuestionableLifeChoices everything you said is possible she probably will give meg a chance but not completely trust her 100% and make her earn her trust
I love this one! So clever, fantastic cast, compelling mystery to solve! Next up is Glass Onion!! Just as good in my opinion and definitely more "fun"!
My Drama play this year in June was a rendition of Knives Out….. this movie is REALLY good, well deserved best screenplay nomination for the Oscar Btw, Ana de Armas, Jamie-Lee, Toni Colette, Christopher Plummer, and Chris Evans, and Daniel Craig?!? It’s amazing, the cast is great, the story, the acting, it’s all amazing
This whole movie is amazing, but the thing I loved the most about it was how real this family felt, and honestly it was mostly because of how freely they talked about their different politics lol. Most families do that, and they sound exactly like that 😂 And the issues were relevant and genuinely controversial! The exact kinds of things that would split real families
This movie is filled with so many little details. It's incredible how literally everything is either foreshadowing or symbolic. My personal favourite moments are the ones where the family completely ignores everything about Marta because they're assholes. "Untrustworthy narrator" is probably one of the coolest twists if done right, and by god is it done tastefully in this movie.
"I don't like people and social interactions" super relatable. Also, if you're not used to seeing Chris Evans being a prick, you should put Fantastic Four on your watching list.
12:52 - "That was such a pussy throw." Finally somebody commented on that! Seriously, in the inside shot, he looks like he's gonna vent his anger/relief through a cathartic throw, and then the ball just plops out of the window. I do believe it's an intentional joke, though.
In my opinion there were no flaws for me in this film... And that is rarely something I say it takes a lot to make a film this perfect but I think my favorite characteristic of this film was the simplicity that the story carried... It was just a simple murder mystery and I think that was what benefitted the film the most...left room for great writing... plot twists all around that all made sense and the acting from the star studded cast was just the cherry on the top! There was not a moment in this film that felt dull... One of my favorite films of all time... Cant wait for you to react to Glass Onion Alex lol Thank you for reacting to this film...such an instant classic! Masterpiece!
25:40 I'm a cat person. And a dog person. And as it turns out, a bunny person. Also had some cute times with a little parokeet. I'm an animal person in general I think XD
One of my favorite things about this movie is upon rewatch, halfway through there’s heavy foreshadowing to who it was. Blanc says dogs are the best judge of character and as soon as Ransom shows up the dogs hate him
I think Marta actually did care about the blood members of the family. Put Meg through school. Let Walt really run the company and handle movie deals. Linda needs no real assistance but she does have the evidence against the husband. It's everyone else who deserve nothing.
If you want to see more of the Evans / Armas on-screen chemistry, the more recent film "Ghosted" is fun. It's not a "great" movie by any means, but it's fun to watch, and has some neat surprises scattered throughout. ;)
Alex you gotta watch glass onion, the cast isn’t as loaded as this movie but it’s still my favorite of the 2, and you’ll definitely recognize a couple people
I love this movie. This is one of those movies that even if you know the ending, you can still watch over and over just because it is so good. None of the characters are caricatures and you genuinely root for Marta and sometimes even the other characters, because even though they are flawed, they still come off as real. Unfortunately, I can not say the same about Glass Onion. I know a lot of people like that movie but to me, the characters come off as one-dimensional and are not wholly developed. They are just box-ticking characters. The one person the audience is suppose to root for doesn't even show up until 3/4 of the movie is done. You don't actually get to know this person. Not to mention that the cast of Knives Out are all A list actors at the top of their game and the actors in G.O. are goodish but they are not in the same league. If you do watch G.O., I would put some time between the two movies. I think you would be disappointed if you watch G.O. close behind Knives Out. It pales in comparison. K.O. is an A+ movie whereas G.O. is a C, at best, in my opinion.
Not a dog person, never have been. I have been attacked by dogs three separate times in my life. Twice by German Shepherds who tackled me off my bike as a kid when just riding in the neighborhood, and once by an aunt's dog when I was just laying on the floor watching tv. All attacks completely unprovoked. I didn't scare them, I didn't do anything wrong...some dogs are honestly just complete pieces of shit. I still have scars on my arms and legs nearly 40 years later.
Yes to dogs. They´re the best. This was indeed a fun movie. Great plot, great acting (especially De Armas, Plummer and Craig). Very re-watchable! I enjoyed your reaction 🙂
I agree with Benny. Best judge of character is a dog. Got two beautiful pit bulls myself, one a few years old one under a year. Younger one is of course a spaz, older one...didn't know how to be a dog before we got the younger one. She's FINALLY finding her voice lol. Fiance got her from a shelter, and the shelter found her in a dumpster. Heavily pregnant. With blood on her face that...was not hers. Only time she's ever bitten someone. Puppy mill dumped her there, after some idiot there abused her. Now, that SHOULD result in one less idiot in the world, but. Soon as she got her teeth in him, she decided she did not LIKE biting people and immediately stopped. ...This dog is DEEPLY special.
One detail about Walt that I noticed that took him out of the suspect was that he uses Apple products and because Apple basically forbids villains from using them, he couldn’t possibly be the killer.
I'm both a dog and a cat person. I'm more of a cat person but still love the heck out of dogs. My first pet was a dog. And I loved him like no other. But we had to give him away and that messed me up. But at least he crapped in his new owner's car before we said goodbye.
I think the coolest part about knives out is that we’re given how he dies and let the first part and I were trying to just help her cover it up where is most murder mysteries? We are also trying to figure it out that allows. The reveal that it was ransom to be so wow

No? That's entirely wrong
The 2nd one was an unexpected yet fun movie!
He plays a bad guy role in The Grey Man, its super good check it out
Chris Evans has always been great at playing dirtbags and assholes. A lot of people just forgot because of Cap.
Before I first saw this movie in theaters I knew Captain was going to be the bad guy. It just had to be.
Meg was not that bad honestly, she only told about the mom because everyone of the family was watching her in the telephone
yep the "eat the rich" genre it's my fav
@pumpkincat4739 I mean, she only seemed to call her to begin with because the family wanted to get their share, and she was complicit in that.
Unlike most mystery movies this one is still great to rewatch over and over because the writing is just so good.
I think it gets even better on a rewatch, because then you can see all the little clues and the inconsistencies in how each character tells the cops what happened.
@ichbinben. absolutely agree.
Harlan's own books, if y'all didn't notice :)
7:53 Peep Meg's shirt LOL love it
8:15 Every time Blanc hits the key, he's telling the detectives to ask what time each family member arrived at the party
10:04 I'm pretty sure they only filmed this scene once, and man was it perfect. the lighting throughout this movie too is just so great
10:42 not really insight but these shots with the family photos helping to establish the groupings of the family members are cool, PLUS the carved elephants! ("Turn before the carved elephant. After the carved elephant. Beafterfore, the carved elephant.")
12:49 Rian Johnson (the director) commented that it's a pathetic throw too which is so funny to me!!!
How do you come up with that?"
18:34 Rian Johnson really is pointing out to us another possibility to the situation we're watching.
20:23 I don't think it was shown in this video, but there's a line where a family member says that "the ideas/plots [of his mystery books] would pop into Harlan's head fully formed," just like it did for him here! ugh so good
21:43 Don Johnson handing Marta the plate KILLS me-- especially because he came up with it himself. It's just so awful and shows exactly how Richard considers Marta "the help" rather than "a family member" as they all claim (and he even says at 9:02), just with one little gesture.
28:01 Originally the line was like "fuck you" or something but 'fuck' would have made the rating on the movie mature rather than pg-13
30:13 a line Jaedan Martell (Jacob's actor) came up with too.
31:56 Peep Alan's assistant sleeping in the background because of just how long they've been arguing lol
38:01 Another cool shot-- Marta's hanging cross, and the reflection of the telephone pole looking like a cross in the glass.
40:29 Look at the table on the left side. They found a stature of two German shepherds for the set, like the two dogs the family has! SO GOOD
41:19 As Blanc uncovers what truly happened, his head fills the hole in the circle of knives. THE DONUT HOLE IN THE DONUT'S HOLE :D
42:50 Earlier Harlan said "why do men instinctually pull at loose threads on their parachutes" or something like that and here we can see that coming to fruition.
Rian Johnson uses that to his advantage 100%
44:42 Another connection I LOVE!
I hope some of these were interesting to y'all!
i love this comment
@@alexhefnerstvmovievault 🫶🫶
"We all trust Chris Evans, Captain America, right!" - The funny thing is that before Cap, Chris has played quite a few assholeish characters, or at least a lot less likeable, like in Scott Pilgrim, Sunshine and Fantastic 4.
@@tarmil that’s so interesting!! ive only seen one of those movies somehow 😭I didn't know about that !! :D
I just hope she can find a way to survive. Maybe she'll quit school and get a job. And maybe figure out a future to live on.
Or it could be another reason
This movie gets better on every rewatch. So many small tells and details. A PERFECT whodunnit.
Well, I mean, he also drops Amazon gift card codes randomly in his videos 😂
The amazing thing is that the movie shows you exactly how and why he dies only halfway in and yet there is still a bigger mystery to solve.
If you really loved this movie as much as you say, here are some other great murder mysteries ranked:
-1- Murderer on the Orient Express
-2- Clue (1985)
-3- Glass Onion
-4- Death on the Nile
One caveat, I would recommend the first "Murder on the Orient Express" with Albert Finney, Lauren Bacall, and Ingrid Bergman.
Murder By Death
there’s going to be a new poirot movie from kenneth branagh! he’s adapting a haunting in venice.
@@hellbunniez3 His Orient Express was great. I hope the new movie he's doing is better than his Death on the Nile.
@@marcbrunson6986 haunting in venice was really really good! way, way better than death on the nile. it’s very beautiful and stylistic (although the dutch angles were overkill lol), and i love how they went with a spooky, fantasy feel to it.
If you like this movie's vibe and have not watched "Ready or Not" yet, I would highly recommend it.
Ready or Not is just, ok.
You're just ok@@Justin1an
15:23 Joni is sitting on the floor meditating, and she chants "Shrim." This is a mispronunciation of the bija mantra "Shreem" for Sri Lakshmi, goddess of fortune and wealth.
Terrible.
Bruh, imagine being the doctor that told Marta that Fran died XD
Doc: yeah, uh. Fran died.
Marta: Thanks doc. That's great news. *hangs up*
Doc: wait wha-?
Yeah, this movie is gem. And also it's very cool to see how Chris Evans plays a bad guy. I guess after playing Cap for years, he just sits and enjoys playing villains and he's damn good at it. There's another movie where Chris plays main villain - The Gray Man, it's f*cking awesome, you should check it out. )
P.S.: I like dogs, but i'm not dog fanatic, and i REALLY hope that at least some of you understand the difference. )
eee
One of my favorite cameos in this movie is the lawyer reading the will. That's Frank Oz who you will know as Miss Piggy and Yoda!
Man turns up in the damndest places.
"I don't like social interaction", same Alex, same.
Alex Driver - Please put Baby Driver on the list! The soundtrack alone is worth it.
This is a great movie and Glass Onion is very different from it, but also so amazing in its execution and what it pulls off. I think you'd enjoy it a lot, too!
lol. Glass onion is awful
Rian Johnson should give up the idea of making more STAR WARS and focus on original projects instead
He’s a good director. The Last Jedi wasn’t his fault. There was a lot of studio interference.
Another Karen what a surprise 🙄
Nah, he should have his trilogy.
He should do both.
The portrait painting changes throughout the movie, good on you for noticing it.
Such a great movie, with pretty surprising plot twists. Hope you watch the the next one!
Fun Fact: the guy that played the attorney who read the will was Frank Oz, who was the voice of Miss Piggy, Fozzie, etc. from the Muppets and Yoda from Star Wars
And directed a lot of amazing comedies too :)
32:53 is the perfect spot to include the “language” quote from captain America.
I’m so excited to watch this reaction. Such an incredible murder mystery
i like meg, she actually has potential to be a good person, she just has selfish POS family whispering in her ear. she admires harlan not for what he's accomplished but because "he's a genuinely selfless person." she's the only one of the thrombys to actually be conflicted and before her mom made her afraid, she was for not fighting marta for the money, and then clearly feels shitty after their phone call. she also apologizes first thing after marta comes back. she's still a teenager (a privileged, sheltered teenager at that) and she's still learning who she should trust and listen to. she just needs to break from her family and i think she'd genuinely be set to fully commit to being the person she clearly wants to be
What do you think happens to her after a while post movie
@@moneylover318probably working to support her studies. she seemed like she had a good head on her shoulders, but her family is… you know.
My Drama play this year in June was a rendition of Knives Out….. this movie is REALLY good, well deserved best screenplay nomination for the Oscar
Btw, Ana de Armas, Jamie-Lee, Toni Colette, Christopher Plummer, and Chris Evans, and Daniel Craig?!? It’s amazing, the cast is great, the story, the acting, it’s all amazing
This whole movie is amazing, but the thing I loved the most about it was how real this family felt, and honestly it was mostly because of how freely they talked about their different politics lol. Most families do that, and they sound exactly like that 😂
And the issues were relevant and genuinely controversial!
I am so happy with this movie, cause I guessed the twist almost 100% correct. The storytelling was phenomanal
Cap in that knit sweater literally has a separate fanbase ❤❤❤
"BABY ALEX"
Seriously, it's a great movie with a ton of attention to detail. Edgar Wright makes awesome, stylistic movies.
12:52 - "That was such a pussy throw."
Finally somebody commented on that! Seriously, in the inside shot, he looks like he's gonna vent his anger/relief through a cathartic throw, and then the ball just plops out of the window. I do believe it's an intentional joke, though.
I never skip the sponsor parts, they're absolute gold 😭
this is what love looks like
I watched this movie in theaters. I absolutely loved it because it introduced me to the mystery genre and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since!
IDK if anyone else has pointed this out (also I'm 11 months late lol) but at 29:10, the lawyer is Frank Oz, otherwise known as Yoda.
Notice that every single family members thinks Marta is from a different country.
The quality of writing of this movie is so good it could have been written by Agatha Christie!
Unfortunately, glass onion is a total ripoff of Agatha Christie. I knew who the killer was literally 2 seconds after the murder (not an exaggeration).
Baby Alex reacting to Baby Driver would be dope, gonna need some sunglasses though
LOVE this movie! The Netflix sequel is also great, IMO.
Rian Johnson also created an original Peacock series, Poker Face, which I love.
I adore this movie! Glad you're experiencing this! ❤
I've always loved the way it both starts and ends with the Coffee mug.
love this movie!! so glad you got to check it out!
“Cap, you look great in a knit sweater!”
Ah yes, the sweater that launched a thousand ships
lol this
One of my favorite things about this movie is upon rewatch, halfway through there’s heavy foreshadowing to who it was. Blanc says dogs are the best judge of character and as soon as Ransom shows up the dogs hate him
19:53 this got so good I had to stop watching this and go watch the movie first…BEST DECISION EVER!! Awesome awesome awesome movie
the donut monologue is genius
I think Marta actually did care about the blood members of the family. Put Meg through school. Let Walt really run the company and handle movie deals. Linda needs no real assistance but she does have the evidence against the husband. It's everyone else who deserve nothing.
the acting in this was amazing!! Marta, Harlan and Ben were my favorite parts
Fun fact the lawyer reading the will is the voice of Yoda, and quite a few other voices
How does he look so much like Dylan is in trouble?? I was half asleep and completely clicked on this thinking it was the Dylan Knives Out video 😂😂😂
Omg you guessed the invisible ink letter thing! 😮😮😮
If you want to see more of the Evans / Armas on-screen chemistry, the more recent film "Ghosted" is fun. It's not a "great" movie by any means, but it's fun to watch, and has some neat surprises scattered throughout. ;)
Alex should start reacting to netflix series as well. Like a new reaction of a new episode every day or two days. I would love to watch it❤
Alex you gotta watch glass onion, the cast isn’t as loaded as this movie but it’s still my favorite of the 2, and you’ll definitely recognize a couple people
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery?
Love your reaction to seeing nana is “Punch her in the face!!!” 😂😂😂😂😂
i mean what else right?
“Knives out, he said it, roll the credits” 😂
The guy that reads the will is Frank Oz. The voices of miss Piggy Animal and yoda
If you want more murder mysteries I highly recommend both Glass Onion and Clue
18:17 he got that EARLY
I think the only difference between a mansion and a manor is the level of creepiness.
If you liked this, you should watch Glass Onion next. It’s another mystery with Benoit Blanc as the detective

I Love this and Glass Onion so much, I need Rian Johnson to make more Benoit Blanc Murder Mysteries ❤❤❤
“Baby Alex” 😁 I love your reactions man!
lol thank you
Definitely do the Glass onion sequel soon, it has a lot of funny moments.
Your the only reactor who didn’t defend Meg’s phone call 👏
I think the coolest part about knives out is that we’re given how he dies and let the first part and I were trying to just help her cover it up where is most murder mysteries? We are also trying to figure it out that allows. The reveal that it was ransom to be so wow
Listen, I love dogs...I'm just scared of them 🤣
I loved Knives out !! And I can’t wait for you to watch Glass onion, it’s just as good an just as much of a star-studded cast 🤓
"I'm not going to go to that because I don't like people or social interactions..."
It's official - Alex is my spirit animal.
