Lindsay I don't know what I would do without your honest reviews and I am in the market for coloring pencils. Thank you, you have made my decision easy.
I just finished filming a review of these for my channel next week! Great minds think alike ❤️ I was pleasantly surprised too. Glad I gave in to all the recommendations!
I received these pencils today per you recommend. Oh my gosh!!! They are like butter and they effortlessly blend. I like them better than Prismacolor and Poloychromos! The lay down is sweet! Thank you for reviewing them. What a great buy!
Oh great! These look very nice! I need another set of pencils like I need a hole in my head! But... I have had these in my cart for awhile now and I am so pleased to have the Lindsay Stamp of Approval 😁 Thank you, Lovely! 💗
Small note with this brand: They have a bunch of different sets with similar packaging and names with little to differentiate one from another. That same designed box used to have regular round pencils of mediocre quality most of a year ago. Don't just go by the brand or the title, make sure you're getting the square ones!
Good to know! I know they have a round set of 180 on the same page on Amazon. I have to admit the square shape got me and I figured if they were bad I could use them for photo profit they are really nice!
I’m in my summer camper and only brought watercolors with me because I didn’t want to lug a lot from NY to MA, so these are perfect to leave in the camper over the winter. Thanks for the review Lindsay.
The round Brutfuners with the coloured barrels are lovely, soft & creamy. Same quality as the squares. The Brutfuners with the black barrel are the same as all the other black barrel Chinese pencils. Litchi (the distributor/manufacturer?) seems to use various factories for many types of Art (and other) materials, a few are branded Brutfuner.
Thanks, that's very useful! I say the colored round barrels on aliexpress in a 520 set! I wondered if the black barrels were like the others I have which are nice but not as high quality as these squares are. Thanks again!
I bought these after hearing Pamela’s review and seeing that many people who follow her also liked them. I wanted a decent but inexpensive set for practice. These have been great for me! It is nice to be able to practice with pencils that can easily be replaced as they wear down. I can then use something better on a drawing after I have worked on a new technique. Budget pencils can serve a useful purpose and I have enjoyed these. No odor on mine and minimal breakage so yay! As always, thanks for your review.
Pamela never has bad reviews and she deletes all comments she disagrees with. She deletes any criticism, any suggestions for her channel that offends her or anything that she happens to respond really badly too. These are really good, so soft, I did some art with colored pencils in highschool they weren't t even close to this. These are great, so easy to sharpen, very soft wood. I'm so happy I got them, but it's so sad you can't get them open stock. They are creamy and if you use them you can use up individual colors pretty fast.

Thanks for the review, I loved that crystal! I have these square Brutfuners and the round ones too. The round ones feels really cheap, many pencils in my set break (or just crumble) alot, but I still enjoy coloring with them, and get good results. The square ones feels like much higher quality to me, and they are way prettier. They feel similar to color with, pretty close but not the same in my opinion.

Dear Lindsay, I have been watching you as my favorite, most trusted reviewer for close to 10 years. When I heard your opinion and evaluation of the performance of these pencils, along with their price, I used your link as soon as you finished this review and placed my order. This is the least expensive I have seen of the 120 budget pencil sets available, and I have, and always will, trust your judgment of a product in any of your reviews. I have bilateral carpel tunnel, and being able to get a colored pencil that is softer than many other budget pencils, and that was also given a good review by you, was a true delight. Thank you for all the enjoyment your videos have given me for so long, during many trying health issues. Sincerely, Deirdre (Dee)
USe spray adhesive to adhere the foam to the lid and it keeps the, perfectly in place if you travel with the tin, i own 2 of these 120 sets because they are SO fantastic, and just so you know as far s i can tell the 72 set is exactly the same quality and leads and everything. Just a smaller set great for taking with you as is in your art bag!
I know it’s an older video, but just wanted to say, I really love these pencils! I’m a beginner with colored pencils. Between your reviews and several others, I decided to try them. They were $30 on Amazon with a 25% coupon, and came quickly. I love the easy lay down of pigment. They are perfect for learning blending, and other practice and adult coloring. I tend to fidget with my pens and pencils, and the square shape had actually become my favorite fidget toy. 😆 They do actually work in my T’gaal hand sharpener, with some adjustments. It will seriously leave bite marks and chipped paint, and you may have to fiddle with it to get the pencils to turn initially. But it is doable if you are careful. I will eventually get an electric sharpener, but this is practice for me right now. The bite marks simply make the set ‘not precious’ so I can play with them without twitching. Thank you for the fun recommendation! I’m thoroughly enjoying these!
I came back to see what sharpener you used for the square barrels. Also, the Cezanne 120 is between 40-50 on Amazon today and I love them but ordered these since I already have the 70 count of Cezanne and so glad that these were a better bargain on Black Friday sales, I ordered one for me and one for a gift as I had them in my cart for quite sometime now, patience is a virtue! I feel like a doggie waiting for my owner to come home!
I just bought these from your comment about them being discounted recently! I was wondering if you could do a follow along tutorial using these pencils! Thanks!
I love my Brutefuner pencils. I have rheumatoid arthritis .,and my hands tend to hurt and qo numb when I Color with the regular round pencils. I bought 3 sets of the brutuner squares as the square pencils are easier on my fingers. I appreciate your review and am now a subsriber.
I have these pencils have used them. I love these pencils. Also thank you for letting me know about Sarah. I loved your lives with Sarah in attendace , helping you with fielding questions from subscribers. I did wonder about her many times. Glad to hear she is well.
Yes, also she and her husband bought a RV repair business a couple years ago so she is busy with that too. People have been RVing a lot during the pandemic.
The Brutfuner Square are wonderful. Yes they are chinese and yes you can get teh translated name chart, I too got mine from Pamela. I agree with your comment about the round Brutfuners, I wasn't impressed by them at all. I actually love the squares so much I immediately bought my backup. I also have the Marco Trendy and the Marco Square and there's no comparison. I will not be replacing them. Great review! I love them because they work great in tiny tight spaces to, the variety of colors and I said I was going to display them and then I used them and that idea went out the window! Lol. Very enjoyable pencils and a great price!
These looked great, um Amazon isn’t shipping this to NZ how ever AliExpress! YES!! Yippee new pencils on the way, um think this will be last set I buy for a while as um five sets of pencils how many do I need, apparently six. Lol. Thanks Lindsay for a great review.
yep, I've had mine a little while, had to wait nearly 2 months for them to get to NZ. Talk about a slow boat from China! But definitely worth the effort. You'll love them. Difficult to get a sharpener, I got a KW Trio in the end, does 6-12mm, from Discount Office. Again, worth the effort!
@@andrewmandywilsontatham49 ahh yep I will have the long wait I’m sure I won’t annoy the family by saying so do I have a package …… yep this will start in about a week I will so annoy them. I have the KW trio Best Buy ever, got it supper cheep as our book store was selling for $5 was a very lucky find. Thanks for the heads up, hope your having a wonderful week.
Howdy also from NZ. Looks like a few of us here :) I have mine on order but in the meantime have been using the nyoni set. Which alongside the polychromos are a dream to use. I think the barrels may be different now to these square? Varnished instead of mattte but from what I understand the core is no different.
I just bought the square Brufuners a few weeks ago, and my light olive green also had a broken tip. Maybe it's composed of weaker elements, or perhaps its location in the tin is at a bending point?
Well I couldn’t resist - I broke down and bought them! lol Lindsay, these coloured pencils are easily going to be my favourite colouring tool for art journaling, Bible journaling and adult colouring book fun! I will keep my “good” lightfast collection for my fine art work. How I wish this company would offer single stock pencils because I can see me needing that down the road! lol Thanks for the introduction to them!! 😍❤️❣️
Those seem nice although I don't use colored pencils much. Although I did get my order of Petersburg Classics 12 set watercolors in today. I found it interesting that 7 of the wrappers are different than the other 5 and when I read the label it says....with additives of bull bile😆yeh kinda found that amusing for whatever reason😁🤷♀️
HI! I bought these and for a few dollars more I returned them for the 180 set. It didn't bother me that the 180 set was round and they are great as well. I have an old tray from my Prismas which I keep on the table to prevent them from rolling. To me it was a no brainer. If you want to try a new pencil, look for the Parrot Pastels (72) which I think are wonderful!
The Brutfuner are made in China. They are different to the Marco & Fellissimo ranges, but they are the same as many other Chinese pencils sold on Amazon- Soucolor, Shuttle Art, and a few others that come from the same Brutfuner factory. The round Brutfuner pencils are identical to these other Chinese brands- same color numbers and everything.
The Brutfuner round black barrelled ones are the same as many other of the Chinese brands with black barrels, inc Castle Arts. However, I’ve found the Brutfuner round coloured barrelled ones are the same nice quality as Brutfuner square pencils.
@@ArtJourneyUK the Castle Art pencils are a different size. They aren’t the same factory as the other brands I listed. The other brands are an identical pencil
For the Marco ones you want to get the Marco Renoir, NOT the Raffine. The Raffine are cheap and have very little pigment.... think dollar store colored pencils!!! The Renoir on the other hand are a much better pencil with good pigment payout and although more expensive than the Raffine they are still a budget pencil!! They're not lightfast of course but great in sketch books and I bought a set for my mother who does adult coloring books and they are great in that!!!
You can get 520 of these from Aliexpress for about $117 US. I was tempted, but that is a lot of pencils to store. I just bought the 120 set from Amazon a few weeks ago and have been waiting for your review before I started using them. Thank you!
@@thefrugalcrafter one of the Ali listings did say there were no repeat colors. The unboxing video I saw was not in English so I didn’t understand any of it 😅
I cut the sleeve out on mine and taped it to the tin like i did with my soho pencils. Also the other set you were thinking of is the felissimo colored pencils. I"ve heard they're thicker than these and they even make a sharpener to fit them.
I don’t spray or paint fixative into colored pencil pieces. But a certain brand of pencils...I had color migration when I used a waterbrush on the backside of the paper. It wasn’t so much water or so thin a paper that you’d expect that. The colored pencil pigment actually stained the following page (sheet touching the image).
Not great as with most budget brands (and many artist brands 😆) I keep a white prismacolor handy always. Derwent drawing, coloursoft, and lightfast also have nice white pencils.
I was sooooo waiting for you to review these! Yes, I got fooled by the pencils moved around haha. I love how you organized them by color though - I need to do that to mine. So far they have been staying in stock well, but that might change after all of your viewers see this haha. So, these aren't the same as Felissimo (the 500 set) - those are the Tokyo Seeds from Japan. However, there is a 500 set of round barrel Bruts on Ali Express, but I haven't tried them.
Also the round ones are nothing like these. They are a mimic of a few other cheap Chinese brands of pencils too - while these are much better and more unique.
I think these are very nice for budget pencils, especially for the price. I love mine. I do want to comment that what suits one person may not suit another. Some people are just never happy. Also some brands carry the same colors in different formulas. Derwent does this. Marcos do this. I believe caran dache did it with watercolor and Pablo's. If someone really wants to know they should contact the company, instead of being extremely negative on reviews. I believe in being entitled to opinions, but there's a line between opinions and rudeness.✌
These sound like a great backup to Either prismacolor or faber castel, especially for someone like me with arthritis in my hands! Doesn’t even break the bank!
They look beautiful.🌻 I'm always jealous of how inexpensive your art supplies are in the US! LoL.. this set goes for $70 + tax (which for me is 12%) on Amazon Canada. Great review, hope your having a great week thus far!☺️
Japanese technology for Pencil name Colleen is very good budget pencils. I almost feel like they are good as Caran D’ache! Try for yourself. It’s only my opinion. By the way your review is very good also your work. Thank you. The color of Brutfunner is really beautiful.
The Japanese subscription pencils are Felissimo and I have the whole set. Personally, I do not like them. They are harder than Polychromos and do not blend well.
Felissimo Tokyo Seed pencils, that's the Japanese subscription box ones you meant :) Haven't tried those since I'm not much of a pencil user as they always seem too hard for my crampy lefty hand and I'm notoriously suspicious of anything subscription typish, but maybe someone else is interested 🥰
Yes I have the whole set of Fellisimos "Tokyo seed " pencils and they are nothing like the Brutfuners. The Fellisimos are a lot nicer, in my opinion..:)
Thank you sooooo much for showing the super clear views of your swatch sheet of arranged pencils after you put them in the correct order! Because of that, I was able to put the correct number order for these pencils on the swatch sheet enclosed in their tin. Like a lot of people with regular schooling without art classes, I was taught that all red, yellow and orange colors are hot and all green, blue, and purples are cool colors, (evidently not true), and that was about it. OH, if only every reviewer would do this with their properly arranged pencil sets, it would give the uneducated ones like me a miracle! We would actually be able to properly arrange our few budget friendly colored pencil sets in the correct order. A dream come true! Would you please be kind enough to spread the word among some of these fine artists? Also, I did not catch the name of the reviewer artist you suggested we look up. Could you tell me the name? Any reasonably affordable card stock and paper brand names you could suggest that would really help these pencils work at their best would be greatly appreciated, too. Thank you again. Dee Powers
Thank you. I do watch Pam as well as Jennifer Stay. Perhaps if I ask Pam to have those who would appreciate knowing how to arrange their pencils to send her a list of the sets they have, she might consider doing a video. I know everyone is very busy, especially you, or I would beg you to do it.
There are Marco Raffines, and Marco Renoirs. Art Gear Guide has done Marco Renoirs, the pastel set are Renoirs and come in square or round barrels. Quite a step up from the Raffines. I love my Marco Renoirs!
nice rewiew, watched a few now on these penciels. and funns thing is for most people myelf included , its that one light green that is broken. I would now guess its a prodctin problem with tht one green. also on rewier found that there are sold in diffrent packege under difrent names. I think it was Saea Clark who has it in her review at the end.
Honestly I tend to use a lighter shade of the color I am trying to blend out. It a brush with solvent. Prismacolor makes a colorless blender that is cheap and easy to find too but if you have a white pencil from a budget set it will work great as its mostly wax.
I just bought these. My total was only $25 but it had a 15% off coupon on the listing. I don't know if that is for everyone or a reward for my account? But totally excited to get them.
Stacy, have you ever used the Stabilo colored pencils? I love the Stabilo All pencils…the colors are vibrant and the pencils are soft, which I like… I’m wondering if the colored pencils are close… or which other set of pencils are similar to the Stabilo? Thanks for your time!
I've never tried their colored pencils. The all pencil is similar to the Albright drurer watercolor pencils from Faber castell as I recall (I only had a couple all pencils and didn't get more because it was so similar)
Do I need more art supplies? No. Do I wanna buy more after watching reviews? yessss! 🤣🤣 Thanks for the thorough review 💗💗

I'll keep an eye out for your comparison!
I love the square brutfuner set. What a beautiful flower picture x
Thanks! Wow there are some very definite opinions in the comments. I just wanted to say that you are always fair and honest in your reviews.
Thank you!
I almost ordered a backup set at that price!
You will love them! I used the large hole in my electric sharpener.
@@thefrugalcrafter I just colored with them!!!! So much fun!!!!!
I just bought these from your comment about them being discounted recently! I was wondering if you could do a follow along tutorial using these pencils! Thanks!
Good idea!
As of Monday, June 7, there is a 15% off coupon on Amazon for the reviewed set of 120.
Nice!
Yay 15% off is still there 6/24/2021 🎉
I love my Brutefuner pencils. I have rheumatoid arthritis .,and my hands tend to hurt and qo numb when I Color with the regular round pencils. I bought 3 sets of the brutuner squares as the square pencils are easier on my fingers. I appreciate your review and am now a subsriber.
Thanks for sharing!!
@@thefrugalcrafter Sister and her husband bought new RV and truck to pull. They took 6 weeks to do the Grand Canyon
I love mine! Beautiful pencils.i may get another set. Thanks 🎨
Great review, Lindsay! I'm not really into colored pencils, but you make them sound great!! I may buy them because they look fantastic. Tfs.
I’ve had these in my cart for weeks but just bought them since I don’t want them to go out of stock after this review! 😄
😄
Thank you for this review, I always trust what you say. I recently purchased these and now I feel even better about my purchase. 😊🎨🌸
Good to know about the Marcos
@@shadowdancenz who knows? Maybe they just had a momnent putting the paint on. BTW just made a page on fb yesterday for us kiwis.
@@andrewmandywilsontatham49 cool. Will look out for it.
I just bought the square Brufuners a few weeks ago, and my light olive green also had a broken tip. Maybe it's composed of weaker elements, or perhaps its location in the tin is at a bending point?
Maybe
Well I couldn’t resist - I broke down and bought them! lol Lindsay, these coloured pencils are easily going to be my favourite colouring tool for art journaling, Bible journaling and adult colouring book fun! I will keep my “good” lightfast collection for my fine art work. How I wish this company would offer single stock pencils because I can see me needing that down the road! lol Thanks for the introduction to them!! 😍❤️❣️
The kalour colored pencils are brutfuner also just more colors 180 and there round black barrels just like the brutfuner black barrel 150
Good to know! Many budget pencils are the same formula.
I have this set and I love them. I’m actually going to buy a second set for a backup because I’m afraid they may become unavailable at some point. Lol
Me too. I found a 180 set on amazon im going to try.
Placed my order. It had been on my wish list for a while
Thank you so much. I have these and I’m glad you reviewed them. 💕
I've never heard of them
The Brutfuner are made in China.
I wondered about that with the rounds because they look so similar.
I got these a few months ago, recommended by another youtuber. I've been dying to see your take!
Thank you!
Yeah, I wonder what kind of case they come in. It must be huge!
@@thefrugalcrafter I saw an unboxing video someone did of them! It’s 2 sets of 260 each.
Are they all different colors?
@@thefrugalcrafter one of the Ali listings did say there were no repeat colors. The unboxing video I saw was not in English so I didn’t understand any of it 😅
@@thefrugalcrafter I am so tempted to buy that set, but I'll let you do it LIndsay...:)
Thx for this video ... ordered and can't wait to try!
I have these I really like them the square shape is nice.
I cut the sleeve out on mine and taped it to the tin like i did with my soho pencils. Also the other set you were thinking of is the felissimo colored pencils. I"ve heard they're thicker than these and they even make a sharpener to fit them.
Good idea!
Thanks Lindsay. Enjoyed hearing about these pencils and the coloring you did. Loved the prom pictures. Good to see the smiles. TFS
I just came for Lindsay, couldn’t care less about the pencils. Thanks for keeping me company as I sew!
Aww, im happy to keep you company anytime!
Thanks for the review 😊 I haven't tried oil based yet and was very curious about them. Under $30 is great for me, I'm not making forever art 😃
Holy cow! That's weird.
I usually only use one side of sketchbook pages so I've never had that happen.
Thanks for another great review Lyndsay, I thought I'd give these a go at the price
How is the quality of the white colored pencil?
Thanks!!
What a great price, probably a little more in Canada but worth it for how many you get. Thanks Lindsay!
Thanks! I don't know what has got people so riled up about these pencils, honestly.
@@thefrugalcrafter they seem to be riled up about ALL the pencils. Lol.
These sound like a great backup to Either prismacolor or faber castel, especially for someone like me with arthritis in my hands! Doesn’t even break the bank!
Thank you for the review. I am goung to try these.
They look beautiful.🌻 I'm always jealous of how inexpensive your art supplies are in the US! LoL.. this set goes for $70 + tax (which for me is 12%) on Amazon Canada.
Great review, hope your having a great week thus far!☺️
Fellow Canadian here, I feel you and my tax is 5% so you have it much worse!
That 7s more than double the price here. If check aliexpress as most of the sellers 9n Amazon sell on Ali too.
@@jicolourist Gotta love BC... Bring Cash;) 😁
@@thefrugalcrafter Now why didn't I think of that?! Lol thanks Lindsay!
I hear you
They are almost $100 in Australia
I’m ordering even though I don’t need more colored pencils lol. But they sound so good thank you for the review I really like softer pencils.
I have these and they are wonderful
Great review! I’m not frugal after listening to some of your reviews. lol
Felissimo is the 500ct Japanese seed pencils.
Dee Powers
Pamelas passion for pencils arranges her sets in color family order and she is the one who turned me on to these square pencils.
Thank you. I do watch Pam as well as Jennifer Stay. Perhaps if I ask Pam to have those who would appreciate knowing how to arrange their pencils to send her a list of the sets they have, she might consider doing a video. I know everyone is very busy, especially you, or I would beg you to do it.
Marco Raffine are student quality. It was hard to get the pigment built up. They only have numbers, and the barrels don't match the actual color
Thanks for the info. I had been wondering about them, especially the pastel tones.
The black barreled ones are for sure!
I'm looking to get this set but I'm basically brand new to colored pencils. do you have any recommendations for blending/burnishing tools?
Honestly I tend to use a lighter shade of the color I am trying to blend out. It a brush with solvent. Prismacolor makes a colorless blender that is cheap and easy to find too but if you have a white pencil from a budget set it will work great as its mostly wax.
@@thefrugalcrafter thanks for the reply! that definitely makes sense, as that's what I do with alcohol markers (use a lighter shade)!
I ordered and look forward to trying. I trust your reviews and admire your knowledge. Have a great week!
Thanks, you too!
I love these pencils!
There is actually 20% off now on Amazon! Amazing price! It's June 26th btw!
I just bought these. My total was only $25 but it had a 15% off coupon on the listing. I don't know if that is for everyone or a reward for my account? But totally excited to get them.
The 180 set is 36 now great price I have the 120 set castle art. They look like they was good
The only non artist colored pencil i have is Arteza but i have been eyeing these. They have had very good reviews.
I just bought the 180 pencil set for 35.00. I look forward to practicing with them.
Let me know how you like them. I have not tried them.
