    This is my first season with the Step On's and at first I felt like I really miss the feeling of the straps. It was weird, I was so use to feeling the straps and the pressure points from the straps as if they gave me feedback when making turns. I'm getting used to them and I'm loving the convenience. Plus no hot spots and pain on my feet, along with riding all day without breaking a sweat.
    The one tip I read bout is, if you go to F3 or higher on your highbacks, move the gas pedal (footbed) half a size up. Helps with clicking in the heel clip.

      Yes, I went F3 the other day, and it did help alot. It feels play is less, I was able to ride again and do carving, it’s been iccy so pretty much smearing turns. Lol but I’m not falling anymore. Lol
      True, the convience it gives hands down is worth it. I’m less tired from strpping in. I have to be good at this. 💪🏾🏂

    My wife was freaked out about the heal play, I measured the play on the Burton step-on and then I set up the board with her old strap bindings and measured the play in those. It was only slightly less. And we are talking maybe a mm or 2. After she went out and rode them...she loves them. LOVES them! I didn't even take a full run before I was absolutely sold. I actually didn't notice a single thing different (besides my warm ass and the fact I got an extra 4 runs in because i wasn't sitting at the top of the hill.) They may have been even more responsive. I even loosened the boots up and rode sloppy and they still reacted like champs! But...they may not be for everyone I suppose. I think they are killer. Good luck everyone.

    Any turn (whether it's heel or toe side) is combination or so many factors which are taking place simultaneous through the process of the turn and it depends on the type of turns you're doing - slow carve, rapid change, speed check, down/up unweighted turns. Then there's the human and mechanical parameters: like body position and balance, opening and closing of the leading knee, toe pressure, shin pressure, heel pressure calf pressure, stance width and position, amount of forward lean on your bindings, footbed adjustment to match the boot size, width of your board compared to your feet, type of boot (Photon v Ion, v Ruler v etc., etc.), tightness of your boa system. These are all parameters that you need to experiment with. I think you just need to persevere with your riding. Not sure how many days per season you ride but I get 50+ days in per season. I ride a super wide board (357mm at the nose and tail, 318mm at the waist, with an 11m side radius) so I have zero heel or toe drag. I've been riding Step Ons since 2017 and can put that board on it's edge and carve all day (Photon boot, Step On bindings). Keep shredding!

    Algo took me here. I see two problems:
    1. Your Custom board seems narrow for your bindings/boot. What's the size of your boot and board?
    2. Your bindings seemed hanging more on the heel side of the board. That is probably why you are having difficulties on your toe edge
    Solution: try pull your baseplate in and center your binding, or try a "wider" board

  • @downhillskier7
    @downhillskier7 2 роки тому +2

    Adjust forward lean on high back by tighten to screws in high back then move toe pad out further to edge of board.
    Toe side turns are much more responsive than strap bindings so you have slow down toe side turns to stretch out toe side to be same as heel side turns. Have someone video you then you will see in the video your toe side turns are much quicker than heel side turns, practice on make both heel and toe side turns symmetrical on green and blue runs where you have even turn shape.

  • @rettymoo942
    @rettymoo942 2 роки тому +3

    At 4:38 you are wrong. The board is already twisted which means the edge should be engaging by that motion. The play is a lot more smaller than you think. I have been using stepon for three seasons and never missed strap in for 1 sec. Maybe you could try more forward lean, a stiffer boots or tighten the boa more. I found a lot of problems with single boa systems (the ankle strap on step on boots could only count as 0.5, as they are not very usefull. I have tried riding without tighten it, and I did not notice too much problem). single boa usually leaves some slack at the bottom, and as you ride, the slack slowly moves up to the ankle and shin which is some noticable play when riding.

      @@KakaMikkiTrinidad Let me know if that works. I have the exact same setup as you (including the custom board!), except my boots and bindings are black in color. I love this set up honestly, it rocks. People say that the heel play is done on purpose. Thinking about the physics of this, it makes sense. Otherwise you would engage the board immediately upon beginning to lean to your toe side. And considering there is not strap and you are stuck (not strapped) to your bindings, maybe it would be TOO responsive?

      I guess step on is not for everybody but slowly you can see in the slopes the more and more people are trying step ons.

    Step ons are not for beginners... They are very ridged, and responsive. As for toe turns, they are the same, even if you have no bindings. Press your forward shin against boots, and rotate forward knee inward. Keep shoulder in line with board, DO NOT counter rotate, to turn.. Unless you are riding park, or steep tree runs.

    Go to F3, man. I used to ride classic bindings past seasons and switched to Step-On this year (fat&old, cba strapping in!) and so far my experience with them (after 3 days out) is that they are actually bit more responsive than my original (basic entry level). Using the same board as I have (standard inserts, not channel but looking at what your bindings-to-board does, there is some extra flex as well), just upgraded to the basic Step On binding and standard Photon boots. Started at F2, went to F3 pretty immediately after 2 runs and considering going half more to be honest (was riding almost full forward lean on my basic straps, even though that is not comparable).
    But yes, they do feel different to strap bidingins, that's why I am starting my wife directly on the step ons (she likes the convenience) instead of going rental/2nd hand first.
    And they are softer/more flexible than strap bindings, so there is possibility on misalignment between the flex of your Step-ons and board? Ie trying to steer stiff board?

      Yeah, that would be nice to start on step on right away. That’s the trick I guess. Lol

    Adjusting the high backs will help. But the amount of heel play I don’t think is normal. I have the same issues but it’s only with 1 binding. 1 binding doesn’t move or make noise and the other feels like it lifts with the boot 1/4 inch and makes noises. I’m taking back to the ski shop today for them to look at.

  • @brandonsawada4607
    @brandonsawada4607 2 роки тому

    It seems you got it figured out with adjusting your forward lean which is great! But another reason for this is the re:flex discs that Burton uses. It allows for better board feel with less disc touching your board which you can feel the play (especially on your toe turns because your body has more leverage). This goes for any mini disc like union bindings too. I agree with you that I don't prefer this so I don't ride mini discs. I ride Now and Flow bindings. Enjoy them!!! Just get out there and ride!

    • @KakaMikkiTrinidad

    • @brandonsawada4607
      @brandonsawada4607 2 роки тому

      @@KakaMikkiTrinidad Unfortunately there isn't. This is just due to the nature of the binding market and companies are pushing to having increased board feel. And this has nothing to do with this being bad, everything is personal preference, some people love more board feel, but some people don't like the slightly looser feeling of the binding. It also could just be that you need to adjust to them and learn how they respond compared to traditional bindings. I have heard that on toe side turns it feels quite different due to the connection and power to lift the board on edge would come from the heal cleat area, which is higher than if you were strapped in traditional bindings, which the power would transfer through your ankle/heel strap to the heel cup and base of the binding.
      This really isn't an issue with the binding it is just how it rides with the current design. Just getting use to how to get the most power is the easiest and cheapest option. But if you really wanted a convenience binding that doesn't have this "quirk" I think Flow's reclining highback and fusion strap would be the closest. If you get them setup correctly it really is almost as easy as the step ons just requires more balance and more setup to dial them in. I have the 2021/2022 Flow NX2-TM and I love them the exoframe fusion strap and slip n grip base plate make it seamless, but provides great power. This is all in my opinion and feel from riding them though.
      Also, next season Nidecker is coming out with the Supermatic binding, so you could wait for those to come out --> ua-cam.com/video/QPgCWt_7ShA/v-deo.html

    More than 20 years ago i had the first Burton-Step-On-System. It was good for a beginner. But for agressive carving nothing beats the response of strap-bindings. Step-Ons in my opinion not necessary. Straps closed in 5 Seconds. Leaving the lift with one-foot-off no problem and slightly turns possible. If you want Step-On, maybe CLEW (Step-In) is a solution for you.

    Just wondered if anyone read the manual that came with your step on bindings?
    Well I didn’t. Until I noticed the extra heel lift on the back foot (none on the front). Then I did read the manual. And it explains it perfectly. There are two click settings on each heel. Both are safe. And it’s there because of snow pack if you don’t clear your binding footbed properly. You want to hear two clicks in the heel for each boot. In addition to a click each side for the toe. That’s 4 clicks per boot. Then you will get no heel lift. Also as people have said. Set the footbed to the correct size for the boot. And remember the sizes on the actual binding will be US on the binding. Not UK.
