My all time favorite ride at Disneyland, and to think Disneyland is the only park that has it. Personally I know all the complaints about how rough a ride it is, and no doubt it is. But remember this is the original steel coaster so you cannot not touch it for historical reasons in my opinion. But I do want to make a suggestion when riding it for those who find it to rough OR have a bad back like myself. I have figured out a way to ride it without it hurting my back and in turn makes it more enjoyable. Simply sit up in the seat and ride it like your riding a horse. Its sitting back into the seat were the turbulent movement gets transferred back into your body. Seriously it works. It is also perfectly safe since the original bobsleds the front rider did not have a back to rest on plus you have seat belts anyhow. Excellent video.
Amazing footage of this historic ride in test mode. Wow. It's just a major treat to see the ride in action before the exterior was added. It's the Arrow Development team that actually made this groundbreaking ride possible. Impressive.
Scott Nelson Arrow was an insanely innovative company, other than the first steel coaster they also created the first successful coaster to go upside-down (Corkscrew at Knott's Berry Farm now Corkscrew at Silverwood), first coaster with 3, 4, 5, and 7 inversions, the first hyper coaster (Magnum XL 200 at Cedar Point), and the first 4D coaster (X2 at SFMM).
Went a couple weeks ago. Harold is great the motion really takes you back. The ride is still incredibly rough. It is hard to get in the right atmosphere when the next turn jerks you viciously.
Yes, but isn't Expedition Everest really an updated version of the Matterhorn? With the Yeti a stand in for Harold? And in reality, WDW's Space Mountain is really a copy of the Matterhorn, being a 2 tracked bobsled coaster with parallel lifts. It just has a different layout, and is fully enclosed.
You forgot to mention that the matterhorn bobsleds was the first roller coaster in the world to feature a tubular track. It's a landmark of history just for that reason
I once heard cast members used to call Lookout Mountain "Make Out Mountain" due to all the couples that would find some privacy among the bushes. It makes one wonder how many families heritage began there.
A lot of good information was left out- how revolutionary the ride track system was, the iconic water splash down being used as a breaking mechanism, etc.
I think it’s so funny how people are so obsessed with this. Some employees literally tacked a basketball hoop to the side of a stairwell in a break area, and suddenly there is a legend of a mysterious gymnasium hidden in the mountain. Lol.
I've Been On The Marathon Bobsleds Roller Coaster At Disneyland Resort In Anaheim Near Los Angeles In The United States Of America Back In Easter 2016. Thanks AMagicProduction Mate. X
Sorry, but no mention of how the original mountain was hollow? Or that when they filled it in with caverns, there used to be a big opening at the top of the lift hill with a view of the park? Or the basketball court?!
Theres also a nod for Frank Wells in the section where you said its a nod to the old bobsleds. The nod to Frank Wells, who worked for Disney and died in an accident, is on a crate that says Wells Expedition I think. He was known to climb all sorts of mountains.
inonomus you are correct, but unfortunately they took away that scene and replaced it with the new scene featuring the skyway buckets and the old bobsleds.
The Nerd Herd not 43.5 billion dollars that makes no sense a pro sports stadium costs under a billion to build the maternhorn obviously wouldn’t cost 43 billion
The matterhorn was open inside until the 1978 renovation. It really was open, with the structural beams clearly visible. I remember being able to look down into the depths of the interior.
I have this for years and it was a much smoother ride back in the old days (i.e. 1970s, 80s and 90s). We aren't sure whether the renovations have caused the rougher ride or the new ride vehicles. But there is a definite difference. Anyone who follows Disney UA-camrs who ride for the first time, the comments are almost the same; jerky, bumpy and painful at times.
starleet2001 It's a mixture of both, the track is 60 years old and the new cars with the seats are higher up and thus cause you to jerk around more since your center of gravity is higher than what the track was designed for.
a good ride but the most I remember about it was getting a headache the first and only time I rode it. during the ride my forhead smacked the back of my friends head and I ended up with a major headache.
AMagicProduction, the Matterhorn is one of my favorite rides at disneyland!!! Do you know how disneyland made Harold in 1978 and the materials they used to make it because I want to make my own Harold and put it in my playroom bathroom to scare guests that come to my house!!! If you know how disneyland built Harold, then put the steps in your response with numbers on the left please. Also if you know the materials they used please put a list of the materials as well!!! Thank you very much AMagicProduction!!!
I wonder how long this 50+ year old ride will last before it needs to be torn down and rebuilt. While, of course, a classic, I'm wondering how it will hold up - and feel to ride - in another 50 years.
the Ducksprings company 2 While Expedition Everest definitely has some similarities to the Matterhorn, Epcot planned to build an almost identical version of Disneyland’s Matterhorn in a proposed Switzerland pavilion. Unfortunately that never came to fruition.
Alex Arce in 2015 they gave Matterhorn a makeover making the track smoother they took out most on the track from arrow it is still rough but not as much
I went to that ride in 2017, and despite looking beautiful from the distance, the ride itself is old, bumpy and not thrilling at all. After going to Expedition Everest, the Matterhorn is complete rubbish...

That’s some great riding advice!
Wow! I've never seen the footage of the track and bobsled testing.

Great Video... The thing that makes the Matterhorn Bobsled Attraction so unique to me is that the fact there is only ONE of them and Walt rode it :-)

This guy either has a very unique voice or a ton of audio filters done in post.
It's not Mr. Sulu?
This is still my favorite ride at Disneyland
This was my first favorite disney ride.this and splash mountain are my favorite.i love these videos thank you
Nice video footage, haven't seen before.
A lot of good information was left out- how revolutionary the ride track system was, the iconic water splash down being used as a breaking mechanism, etc.
I would really like to see the peoplemovers back up & running again!!!
history of Mr toads wild ride
It's definitely on our to do list :)
This is sooo amazing! I love how we get a glimpse of the park's progress.
They didn't mention the half basketball court in the top of the mountain. The cast members can play on their break.
Cool Nerd Yeah!
I thought that was in Expedition Everest.. Is it there too?
I think it’s so funny how people are so obsessed with this. Some employees literally tacked a basketball hoop to the side of a stairwell in a break area, and suddenly there is a legend of a mysterious gymnasium hidden in the mountain. Lol.
Yeah isn’t that like a known fact??????
Everybody is thinking they are exposing some BIG SECRET, yeah, big deal. lol is right.
they forgot to mention they removed those awesome crystals they used to have, those were my favorite part as a little kid
I've Been On The Marathon Bobsleds Roller Coaster At Disneyland Resort In Anaheim Near Los Angeles In The United States Of America Back In Easter 2016. Thanks AMagicProduction Mate. X
Am i the only one who really wants Disney to bring back the Skyway??? i would personally love it!
chrisgoes bleh They sort of are in a way
I liked them as a kid.
They're building a new one right now from Disney World to Epcot.
chrisgoes bleh OK!!!
People are too stupid/crappy for a ride that allows them to be unsupervised in the air. It's unfortunate.
Sorry, but no mention of how the original mountain was hollow? Or that when they filled it in with caverns, there used to be a big opening at the top of the lift hill with a view of the park? Or the basketball court?!
Fabulous Documentey About The Matterhorn Bobsleds Roller Coaster At Disneyland Los Angeles. Thanks Mate. X
My knees literally started hurting reminding me of how painful sitting in those seats were.
Theres also a nod for Frank Wells in the section where you said its a nod to the old bobsleds. The nod to Frank Wells, who worked for Disney and died in an accident, is on a crate that says Wells Expedition I think. He was known to climb all sorts of mountains.

Last I recall, the Wells Expedition crate had returned. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking.
It's back, it's toward the top of that scene.
*Such a deep calming Voice you have..*
Congrats A Magic Production You Just Taught Me A New Disney Story
Zachary Saulness Thank you, glad you enjoyed it !!
so interesting!! :) great video
So youre telling me i can build the Matterhorn in my backyard for $1.5 million?
If it was still 1959 then yes, yes you could.
Or with PlanetCoaster
Due to inflation that’s around 43.5 billion dollars, sundaes used to cost 5 cents then.
No, you could not. Disney got to build at that price due to their experience, knowledge and purchasing power! You get none of those perks.
The Nerd Herd not 43.5 billion dollars that makes no sense a pro sports stadium costs under a billion to build the maternhorn obviously wouldn’t cost 43 billion
What do you think it's like to test out a roller coaster that goes through a structure that's only the supports before it's given shape
The matterhorn was open inside until the 1978 renovation. It really was open, with the structural beams clearly visible. I remember being able to look down into the depths of the interior.
You don't mention the fact that the mountain was originally hollow inside. Nothing to look at except track.
Forgot to mention this, every steel rollercoaster built today uses the same tubular steel technology that Arrow developed.
Remain seated please. Permanecer sentados por favor.
I guess I'm lucky to have ridden the skyways in both US parks. Looking forward to the new gondolas at WDW.

Great stuff
a good ride but the most I remember about it was getting a headache the first and only time I rode it. during the ride my forhead smacked the back of my friends head and I ended up with a major headache.
Great footage. Keep it up.
Where did you get the queue music?
I love this. Thanks
Sadly, we're quickly approaching the point where it would be cheaper to bulldoze the mountain and rebuild it, rather than fix it.
I enjoy the Matterhorn and I’d go on it again if it weren’t for the fact that it’s an INCREDIBLY BUMPY ride and I’d need traction afterwards.
History of the Jedi training academy!

I wish I could go on this ride sad it’s going through renovations
Please do Country Bear Jamboree next?
Heard it was way faster but had to slow it down because people’s hand were getting chopped off?
Good video. Glad the channels not extinct
haha nope :) The sleeping giant has awoken, expect more videos next week.
I mean... who doesn't auto view in HD in 2017...?
I like that's it's not even available in 1080. The entire notice card is something out of 2005. It's awesome.
I wonder how long this 50+ year old ride will last before it needs to be torn down and rebuilt. While, of course, a classic, I'm wondering how it will hold up - and feel to ride - in another 50 years.
History of Mystère
Why was the skyway cars removed ?
Also there was a trap door and people play basketball in the top
Wow! I wonder how long it took to build it👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I been on the matterhorn bobsleds so many times I love it I wes scared when I wes little girl
Arrow's first coaster. X at Six Flags Magic Mountain was last.
Do the submarine voyage, toy story mania, big thunder mountain railroad, Indiana Jones adventure, and pirates of the Caribbean
my all time favorite ride at Disneyland! don't like the new bob sleds tho
MUNDOM316 totally agree, we liked the older bobsleds better as well.
Man I sure Wish they had a Matterhorn at Disney world. Well technically we do. It's called expedition Everest
the Ducksprings company 2 While Expedition Everest definitely has some similarities to the Matterhorn, Epcot planned to build an almost identical version of Disneyland’s Matterhorn in a proposed Switzerland pavilion. Unfortunately that never came to fruition.
When he said hareld I then say him and said hi hareld
The new sleds has to be one of the worst ride attraction vehicles ever designed.
wasn't that George Takei speaking?
Do jungle cruise
Which is weird
I hate this ride is so damn rough
Why does everyone bitch about this ride being rough? I honestly didn't find it rough at all
Jared Ulloa when was the last time time u went on ?
Alex Arce in 2015 they gave Matterhorn a makeover making the track smoother they took out most on the track from arrow it is still rough but not as much
Alex Arce and the San Antonio
Robert Leen ?
Man this ride sucks. My whole body was aching after getting off this rough ride! Can tell its an old ride! Needs to be replaced.
Nysguy2003, I agree with you IT’S ROUGH! But they might be able to just replace the track as they did with Big Thunder which is now smooth as glass.
I went to that ride in 2017, and despite looking beautiful from the distance, the ride itself is old, bumpy and not thrilling at all. After going to Expedition Everest, the Matterhorn is complete rubbish...
