Dallin is single handedly carrying the disney parks fun fact economy on his back
I always thought that "Choose wisely" was a nod to the last scene in The Last Crusade that they shoehorned into the ATT ad.
It made me realize just how old I am that the “choose wisely” phrase didn’t immediately bring back the grail scene from the move and the soda commercials that followed. (Was it coke? I think it was coke, those cola wars were a clusterduck)
@@Slowplaymaehaha yeah . I remember that as a kid. It was a commercial on the VHS for the movie . 😂
100% agree with you that Walt built the park so he could have a bigger train. And I respect that.
At Tokyo Disney, the steam train only encircles "Westernland" and has a single stop. On the other hand, they do have the best monorail there, encircling the entire resort (one you actually have to buy tickets for, and go through a faregate like the ones all Japanese trains have, but it's worth it). And DisneySea has an "Electric Railway" elevated trolley with turn-of-the-20th-century styling that shuttles between two stops. So Disney's whole train thing gets plenty of representation. Come to think of it, one of the major owners of its parent company is a railway.
"Coose wisely" is a reference to the line from the knight at the end of Last Crusade who utters the line that became a popular response meme on the internet: "He chose poorly".
Without the AT&T context the Indiana Jones "choose wisely" things feels like a reference to the Indiana Jones and Last Crusade --that may just show the fact that I've seen that movie too many times though
Apologies for my somewhat similar comment. (Caffeine hasn’t kicked in, yet.)
@@gameboy8162yup, I always figured it was this in reference to the 3 doors
@daydragoon331 It's referring to both. In 1995 when the ride opened, and it had only been 6 years since the last movie had been in theaters.
@@gameboy8162 Always thought the door chosen was supposed to be random/unknown, & not chosen by the group in the vehicle. (Perhaps, if they had three different lines, to make it seem as if they were actually choosing?)
I'm 100% with you on Walt just wanting a train. The man didn't need to open a theme park, he needed to open a train station
I remember going to Disneyland NYE of 1997 with friends. It was packed so we had plenty of time to try and decode messages. They were basically AT&T ads lol Had a very "drink your Ovaltine" feeling when we realized it.
“Dinosaur ride was super dark” is an understatement. It was so jokingly dark, I felt grifted by a carny ride.
I remember going when Indiana Jones first opened and my dad made a video of every code in the whole line and we kept the cards and decoded every message when we got home. Back when all the crazy effects in the line worked like the spikes moving it was soo cool.
Dont stop the train...just yell eureka!
That Natahzu ad was incredibly effective. I saw it once around 7 years ago, have never been to Animal Kingdom, but pops in my head like a Tripledent Gum commercial
Inside Out was so good at what they did that Tripledent Gum’s jingle pops into my head more often than any real ones I know now
I still have my Indiana Jones decoder card from the first day open. This was the first cue at Disneyland to be interactive and entertaining enough that you didn't really mind the long wait. Besides the decoding of the messages, there were all kinds of things that reacted if touched. I have no idea if all that stuff still works. P.S. The DLRR is the beating heart of Disneyland.
Actually the Disneyland Paris Railroad does have the Grand Canyon Diorama. It’s immediately after leaving Main Street Station. It does not have the Primeval World section, which funnily enough, Tokyo Disneyland’s Western Railroad does, but not the Grand Canyon Diorama.
I just came to the comments to say exactly this! Thank you for beating me to it
I remember attending the celebrity pre opening event for the Indiana Jones ride at D-Land. An old friend from when I worked in the entertainment department at Knott’s Berry Farm, was playing Indy. (Another friend played Indy there , for a live Indiana Jones show there, at about the same time.) Anyway… “Choose wisely” was what the Grail Knight, in, “Last Crusade”, told Indy, Elsa (No… Not the one from Frozen!), & Donovan, when they were trying to figure out which grail was the genuine artifact!
I would daresay the reason for no food/drink on the trains at Disney World is because those trains have a heck of a lot more people that ride them throughout the day. They probably allowed food at the beginning but people being people, they were leaving too much of a mess behind so they had to put a stop to it. :/
The Disneyland Paris Railroad do go through The Grand Canyon Diorama.
Also, there was swing dancing at Fantasy Faire every Saturday night up until the pandemic. They never brought it back due to covid restrictions but nowadays there's no excuse not to bring it back
Omg I remember the swing dancing!!! It was so fun to go watch people all dressed up and they really knew what they were doing.
i actually have some of those ATT cards from the Indian Jones ride. the original, not the second wave of cards. theyre my disney artifact
edit bc i had to add.
Dinosaur was like my #1 movie as a child. 99 baby, i had a viewfinder with a picture card of the movie. i had the VHS that got so much use im surprised it didnt break. same with Mary Poppins, we had like every Disney VHS known to man due to my Nana and Papa. when my mom had my little brother, my parents got me a bunch of dino figures to make me feel like i was still wanted n to not get jealous (they thought id get upset i wasnt getting the attention a newborn needs at 2 yrs old). iv always loved my brother and protected him, always took great care of him, so they had nothing to worry about. i was a good big sister. but that movie was a huge part of my life as a child. my dino obsession hasnt stopped or lessened, even 23 years after i got those figures.
I cannot believe how obscure but still interesting these facts are! Way to go!
Seeing the topiary animals from the monorail at WDW is one of my earliest memories; my first visit at 5 years old in 1977! 🏰😂
Was born in 78 and they are some of my earliest memories too. But I mostly remember them waiting for the ferry. Also, we went a few times a year( one of my great aunts worked there, and my grandma lived in Orlando) and they actually changed them out sometimes ❤✨🩵
I always thought the “choose wisely” sign in Tomorrowland was an Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade reference, not a sponsorship 😭 You learn something new everyday.
Wouldn't it have been nice if when they built the tunnel under Tron, they had added the old dinosaurs from the Universe of Energy? I hope some of the dinosaurs in Dino Land USA find there way someplace else on property - especially Sue.
as a current lifelong Chicagoan, she lives peacefully in my fave museum, the Field Museum (MSI being my second). i see her quite frequently since my dino obsession hasnt stopped. i hope they dont destroy what theyve got at WDW, but she does have an option in her home in Chicago if they feel they dont want her parts anymore.
"He chose...poorly" "He chose...wisely"
Super fun fact that I just learned from a friend who works there - the CMs at where the queue enters the "temple" usually have the decoder cards still!!!! I totally thought they didn't exist anymore, but as of last week they do still have them sometimes if you ask nicely!
There's a nod to a previous attraction at Mission Space in Epcot. When you're in line you see the spinning wheel with various rooms. That came from the Horizons ride which occupied the space where Mission Space is now.
On our recent trip to wdw one of my first stops was to ride Dinosaur one last time. It was bittersweet, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they fixed/updated several of the effects
I went to Blue Bayou during my trip to Disneyland earlier this month and I got a Mint Julep in your honor. It was delicious!
The Golden Gate Bridge at 17:31 looks like it's going through a earthquake, I've been through a few myself.
Oh no no. Your okay AT&T absolutely are terrible. One of the worst companies I've had to deal with.
I will never forget in 2003 my high school did a Disney trip and our jazz band performed at Carnation Plaza. We leaned into the swing music on that concert and there were so many people dancing. A great memory, miss that place.
I always thought the "choose wisely" was about the chamber of destiny in the ride. It says "You seek..." when you would enter the chambers with Mara which implies it was a choice the people who enter make.
The carnation plaza garden was dope, got me interested in swing dancing. Sad to see it go.
Shanghai not having a train was one of those weird moments I didn’t realize until it was well into my trip, but yeah it does make everything weirder. Like you notice something’s missing from the front of the park but it doesn’t really set in until you’re like “aw I’m tired and I need to get over to my show on the other end of the park” and can’t hop the train
I love your content! It always puts a smile on my face! Rock on my friend!!
Excelent video! Congratulations on 300K subscribers Dalin!
We used to go down usually in September and see Buddy Rich perform at Carnation Gardens. This is going back 40+ years now. We'd watch all 3 sets, didn't go on any rides or do anything else. Amazing to see the greatest drummer of all time from a few feet away, I'm sure I'll never experience anything like that again.
I find it comical that a facilty built around time travel and Dinos would have the formulas for ketch mayo and mustard that- that right there is the Disney difference
They actually still hand out the Indiana cards. I got one a year or two ago myself. You just have to get lucky with the CM
I used to babysit a kid who was really into train layouts, and after watching his videos and playing with him for a while, I realized that all of Disneyland can be seen as a very elaborate, not quite full size, train layout,
I actually still have my launch era Indiana Jones translation card! I forgot to bring it with me on my last visit, but it’s now hanging on my Disney pin lanyard.
My personal favorite remnant of Disney history is the fact that one part of Tomorrowland’s soundtrack loops is actually a rendition of the queue music from the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter
17:55 BRO the drummer's costume is the same design they use for the bike riders and flag bearers for the Viva Navidad show in DCA!!!
Fun fact: on the island of Oahu in Hawaii, there is a railway preservation society that runs a scenic excursion train from Ewa Beach to Kahe Point along the western shore of the island - on the return leg, the train often stops in Ko Olina so the passengers can get ice cream: which means, by proxy, Disney's Aulani Resort has a train. Walt's obsession cannot be escaped.
Rumor is he also built disneyland because his studio was making too much money and he needed some tax deductions
Nahtazu is definitely right up there with Hospitaliano and DnL as "things I remember from commercials"
Appreciate you man. Been dreaming about what Disneyland was to me as a kid recently.
Now as Main Street was based on the ider of a turn of the century town, the gardens could serve as a reference to something that was becoming big in the US at the turn of the century. Trolly Parks. Picnic/amusement arers that would be set up by street car companies to encourage people to use the lines more as they could take them to these parks at the end of the line. The 2nd Electric Park in Kansas City, which Disney himself touted as inspiration was a trolly park. (The first park using that name was a beer garden).
CONGRATS ON 300K
Wow 🤯 - that first one, is an absolute stunner or research, Park lore and knowledge. I know some top tens that would have loved that. Tip of the GCT Train Conductors Hat 🎩
Am I the only one who thinks that, since Disney owns the Indiana Jones franchise, Harrison Ford should provide the voice for the animatronic Indys, throughout the attraction? (Especially since Disney now “owns” him, as well.)
OMG CARNATION PLAZA GARDENS! When swing came back in style in the late-'90s, we were APs and we were there EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT to dance! It's literally the only style of dancing I can successfully do aside from the Macarena, and that's even less popular.
Excellent Video. So happy to be a patron.
Getting here within one minute is a life goal complete
“Choose wisely” nod to Last Crusade
That Natazu, commercial just made me feel old. AK opened about a month and a half before I graduated high school.
One of my personal favorite examples is the few remnants of Stitch's Great Escape,
The ride que has been used for a Stitch Meet and Greet in the past, and everything is intact! There's also still Galactic Federation branding and signs around the outside of the old ride! Also, it's turned off most of the time, but sometimes the Peoplemover will still talk about Stitch's Great Escape! (Its rare but that voiceline is still heard sometimes)
Yup! Walt built Disneyland to have his own Steam Powered Railroad. And his own Steam Powered Riverboat as well! Thank you, Dallin, for your diligent espousery!
My money is on us getting a reiteration of a DisneySea Indiana Jones ride replacing Dinosaur. I'm here for it. Loved their theming
"Choose wisely" is now supposed to refer to choosing the "correct" door for yourself (As well as the correct cell carrier). Also, Disneyland Paris DOES have the Grand Canyon Diorama.
Fantasy Fair missed an ideal opportunity to add a dragon in a basement area. Where you could also meet some Prince characters
im so sad abt Dinosaur closing :( the retro vibes are so good and I doubt indie would have that same feel, although it will definitely be a good ride.... its just sad to lose something so cool lol amazing vid, Dallin!!!
This would be a great series. At DCA, if you are in the monorail, you can see the original Golden Gate Bridge parts, still painted the same color before and after you cross the bridge
A Disney Park without a Railroad is like a day without sunshine OR
A day without a Offhand Disney video..............
as a floridian whos only ever been to wdw, when i hear "Disneys california adventure" i giggle. its such a goofy name (no pun intended). imagine "Disneys florida adventure" or "Disneys shanghai adventure" 💀
not exactly a remnant, but my personal favorite _reference_ to older Disney attractions within the parks is the tribute to the Rainbow Caverns on Big Thunder Mountain, though i'm too young to have gone on the original Nature's Wonderland ride
speaking of, though, i also like the leftover tunnel from that which you can find behind the roller coaster ;)
Lmao I remember that AT&T sign while leaving the temple, good times.
im so sad about dinosaur that was like the number one thing i saw on travel channel specials that made me wanna go to disney as a kid. i finally got to go there as an adult and i've only been twice but im so glad i got to go dinosaur one time. i love those giant animatronics but if it has to go indiana jones will be a good successor...even if its not as cute and kitschy. i love that vintage feel it has. rip dinosaur 😭 i dont think i'll get to ride it again before it closes
Great video! I got a question regarding the railroad, what happened to the jaguar that used to be on the rock behind Adventureland?
Yes Walt built Disneyland for that train he loved driving it and he loved his fire engine too
To be fair, Tokyo Disneyland’s railroad does have a dinosaur section.
I'm still bummed that they never created a mythological animal section in Animal Kingdom, as seen on the original sign.
When DinoLand is re-themed, what will happen to all the artefacts in the Dinosaur queue? And also Dino Sue.
Great stuff! I still say Nahtazu!
banger video
I really kind of hate the whole "nahtazu" thing. Animal Kingdom is, among other things, a REALLY GOOD zoo, one that seems particularly good to its animals, and I don't like that they seemed ashamed of being a zoo to the point that they denied being a zoo.
Indeed we do have a Gran Canyon diorama at the Disneyland Railroad here in Paris😅
You just recently found out about CTX Rover = sad
#5 its just a referance to "infiana jones and the quest for the holy grail" where thebknight says he must "choose wisely" just like the coke comercial. 😂
I'm pretty sure the Disney Land Paris Railroad does have the Grand Canyon diorama
FYI, one of the messages in the code language was misspelled... It read "TSUE REWARDS" blah blah blah. It's still wrong as far as I know.
i love living with the land
I’m going to fact check you on the “not exactly 1:1 scale” thing you said about the trains, Offhand. The reason for this, as I read in the book “All Aboard! The Wonderful World of Disney Trains”, “They are narrow gauge”. Narrow gauge trains, which run on rails with a distance of less than 4 feet 8 1/2 inches (1,435mm), are not generally required to be the same size as the average standard gauge locomotives and rolling stock. So, to be clear, these trains ARE REAL. But they are not constructed with the same stipulations of size as normal trains are.
Disneyland Paris does have a Grand Canyon seen on the train.
I’d be okay with a Disney Trainland. 🚂😂
They got rid of herbie from studio 1 in disneyparis studios park yesterday ☹️ core part of my childhood gone just like that
I've never been a fan of Indiana Jones. Going to be very upset when Dinosaur closes for good. The lack of prehistoric animal representation will be missed in DAK. Really hope they open a new dinosaur themed land in the future.
Snarky? What am I, chopped liver? 😂
Also totally agree re the train
No Peoplemover insert? 🤣
I remember going to carnations and swing dancing
“Choose wisely” is from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, the nazi “choose poorly”
Dallin never saw The Last Crusade, huh?
More Haunted Mansion!!!
You are never to snarky
I want a Dalin hair growth update, please!
How much you want to bet Dallin has to restrain himself from putting the peoplemover on here? 😂
Oh no, he’s gonna have a whole different video for just that 😂 which I’m here for😂
😂😂
To be fair, I think *everyone* knows the Peoplemover situation.
@@inuvoxx hasn’t stopped him yet
All of it. All the restraint.
