Hey Brickey! What a great video! Once my dad and I were riding with Steve when people walking weren’t getting out of the way despite the horn. My dad said, “just run ‘em over.” Steve gave my dad a serious look and said, “too much paperwork.” It was the perfect thing to say to my dad, who has since passed away, and the memory makes me smile.
When ever you do these types of videos, I always think how, this is your gift. You do these so well. I mean really well. I can't stress how great these videos are. The narrative is both informative and perfectly toned. Just love it!!!
Those vehicles are so important to the “real little town” suspension of disbelief when walking Main Street in the morning. It’s also such a luxury to feel like you have the time to take a cruise when you’re not rushing to crush
It was my honor and privilege to have been hand picked to be Main Street Operations at Walt Disney World in the mid 1980s. The original core values were part of the experience, and everything mattered. Part of what we did included Main Street Vehicles, and I got to drive them all. Not everyone liked driving the Omnibus due to its size, and we were required to give a live narrative announcement spiel along the way, so the Omnibus was most often assigned to me. The Omnibus was clearly my favorite, as it commanded Main Street! Decades later, I was so blessed to take 2 of the Omnibuses home with me! They are part of my fondest treasures; I have enjoyed driving them around the area, and doing Christmas Parades, a long eoth Church Christmas Caroling events! The Main Street Vehicles brought life to Main Street at the Magic Kingdom, and still operate today, although their service has been drastically cut back at WDW in Florida, to the point that I have to rock the boat to get them out on the Street in the later afternoon or early evening. Guests today are missing much, often not realizing just how special the Main Street Vehicles experience actually is. ua-cam.com/video/Ed2DOjeIWM4/v-deo.htmlsi=pzScOFLvMu-Xzzc7
Speaking of vehicles during construction it was not uncommon for Walt to borrow an autopia car and drive it around the park. Walt on a serious note served in WW1 in the medical unit with the worst duty ever, driving an ambulance. Can you imagine what he saw. So perhaps he could erase the memory with the joy of driving.
This tribute to the Main Street vehicles was so beautiful and eloquent and truly brought tears to my eyes. I love that you highlighted my favorite cast member. Steve creates magic every where he goes and riding with him is a highlight to my Disney Day. ❤ Thanks again for your hard work and dedication.
That was one of the best things about working in Disneyland was meeting those cast members that truly had the disney spark like Steve, Rob Miller, and other.
I used to work Main St. Attractions, which used to be the Steam Train Conductors and the Main St. Vehicles. I drove at some point both '03s, Both Omnibusses and the Fire Truck. Even got to be in a few parades driving the vehicles. Very fun times.
I have no intention to ever visit Disneyland and will never go to Disney World again but I really enjoy your videos detailing their history. You do a masterful job of providing depth to what appears a superficial experience.
Amen. I've been lucky enough to visit both, back when it was safe for families and especially children. Now it is so demented and perverted that I find it hard to believe people still actually visit.
I was in my 60's when I finally got to see Disneyland. My lifelong friend and I went to make a week out of the lakeland sun N fun Universal and Disney. We went 3 years in a row. Great memories.
the disney of that era is a testimony to what business, specifically corporate business, should be. Walt Disney is the original good boss. I feel that we have a lot to learn from what he taught us
I love stuff like this, the fact that they’ve kept them going all this time is just so cool. While at the time they were modern vehicles modeled after vintage vehicles, they are now vintage vehicles modeled after antique vehicles. Also this video itself is just so good, the pacing, the shots, and the story. Fantastic to watch and listen to.
I watch all your videos, Mark. I see quality in each of them. But the people have spoken and they really dig your park history deep dives. These videos require a lot of time and creativity, thanks for your hard work!
I really like the ad of the story of the driver. Have a nice personal touch as well. Many people don’t know that cast members work there for decades and they do it because they love it.
I'm not crying, you're crying. This was beautiful edited and narrated. I have no recollection of ever riding a Main Street vehicle but I intend to the next time I'm able to visit. If I see Steve I will definitely thank him for his service.
When I was a kid we had horses at a stable close to Disneyland. At that stable was an old retired Clydesdale. Every afternoon they would open the gate and the horse would walk the same path, always returning to his corral. Never sped up just the same old clipity clapitty. One afternoon the porter placed me and my friend upon the beasts back we sat crisscross applesauce upon its back as it meandered around. Well until it saw the oats go in the troft. Then it was game on and we went sliding off and onto the ground.
Touching tribute showing Walt's last Disneyland photo op at the end. It is so sad that he never saw the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, or anything else completed. (But, he also didn't see his beloved parks become too expensive for the average family, either.)
Since these vehicles are over 60 years old, I wouldn't be surprised if certain driveline items have been upgraded such as a more modern engine and even power steering. These are things the average attendee won't see but makes sense in the long run.
Beautiful nostalgia, it reminds me of everything Disney upheld before it became infected, God bless Walt and his true dream for the families around the world.
I knew when I was 4 that the old timey car ride at Disney World were just golf carts made to resemble brass era cars. Still, taking a trip around the course with my grandfather, who learned to drive in a Brass Era car, is one of my favorite memories.
Brickey, you are a master of your craft. We are so blessed that your love/obsession of Disneyland, just like your friends on this side of the screen, results in us receiving the best of the best in information, cinematography and content about the most magical place on Earth. I took a break from watching your videos and any Disneyland content as my wife and I were going to the resort the week of Halloween. This was our first time not going at Christmas in nearly 20 years, and I wanted everything to be fresh and new. We had a great trip, and am already thinking about wanting to go back. Now that I am home, and I can visit the park through your lense and story telling abilities, that thing that was missing leading up to our trip is back in my life, and I am grateful. We love the rides, but the magic of Disneyland is in the story, the people and the details. Thank you that your content brings that to us in a unique, factual, stunning and amazing way.
This video is so heartwarming. I am filled with such joy watching it. The Main Street vehicles have always been a must-do item on my itinerary every time I have visited the park. I have said this many times, and even told Bob Gurr this once when were having lunch together at a convention we were both guests at, but I never really feel like I'm truly at Disneyland until I've ridden on one of the Main Street vehicles. Thank you so very much for this video, and for all the videos you produce. Blessing to you, Brickey!
Thank you for this video, I literally wondered where the old times vehicles came from and assumed they were custom made with modern tech. Funny thing is that the “modern tech” of these recreations are now much closer in time to the original vehicles than to today.

Brickey, this video is amazing. Belongs on the History Channel! THANK YOU. Can we please continue to get historical videos like this with old footage you can find? I can express how much nostalgia and happiness this brought me.
What a great video Bricky! I really enjoyed it. And, despite my decades of knowledge about Disneyland I never knew about the Omnibus going all the way back to what was the Mickey Mouse Circus area!
