Hello again Matthew, I must say, I know you have some negative views on the Early Years box set, but I must say all the versions of Atom Heart Mother that are on the 1970 Devi/Ation set In particular I love and in general when I want to hear the suite I’ll listen to the early years stuff. And I must say, the quad mix that’s on the blu ray of the 1970 set absolutely blew me away, it’s the best I ever heard the whole album. Listening to it through proper quad and through the whole surround sound setup just blew me away. That’s my favorite way to hear it.! lol. I loved the version as well that features them without the choir and brass and I liked the early studio version that has different drum parts in the suite. Nick did a great job on that. A lot of people put stuff like this album and Ummagumma down, and don’t understand why.
I purchased my CD copy in 1992 or whereabouts. Always loved the album and listen to it ocasionaly, but felt the mix was a bit poor as I missed some detail by some instruments in the more intricate parts of the Atom Heart Mother track. Fetched it now, and can't find this CD issue in Discogs. I brought it from Portugal where it was purchased, yet seems to be a Brazilian print of the album by EMI. Wondering if it is the same in other releases of this album at that era.
I don't see why the band members seems to not like this album. It was (as was Ummagumma) entirely unprecedented in Rock/Prog circles and is absolutely beautiful musically. It broke boundaries and is still original to this day. Along with the studio album of Ummagumma, it's Avant Garde with a capital 'A." Just one thing, in the vid you called Roger Waters' 'If" Fat Old Sun, but there you are, probably just a slip-up because you talk correctly about Fat Old Sun a little later. I love it too, and there have been some amazingly good live performances done by tribute acts in recent years, many of which are here on YT. Wrong! Side 2 begins with "If" by Roger Waters. "Fat Old Sun" is the third song on Side 2, written by David Gilmour. You mentioned "Fat Old Sun" twice as the first and the third tracks. Ooops! 🤣

Love it too Matthew. First heard it in 1990, 20 years after it come out. Still have a copy today, along with Animals.
