I'm not ashamed to say that this song makes me cry cuz it's heartfelt because when you have a problem and there's nobody else to help you with that problem there's one person who will never turn his back to you where is Jesus himself he'll always be beside you no matter what you can turn to him and he will comfort you through the storm
Really, shame he did not help all those young one's that needed his help (from those disciples of his...priest), guess must be blind or turned the other way.
Please don't be ashamed! It touches the heart!!!!!! You have heart!!!!!!!! That's beautiful!!!! Mr. Withers is smiling down on you know and happy he touched you and so many of us!!!!!!!!!!
This song reminds me of all the people who have come into and gone out of my life. All the important life lessons I've learnt, and yet it all tells me one thing: You can't go through life alone. It's impossible. You always need someone to lean on. My music teacher loved this song. It was his favourite. Then he left, so I organised that the choir sing this song in his last school assembly. When we sang it some of the teachers cried, and I was welling up. The music teacher was crying too. It felt incredible.
We were doing a poetry/musical literature analyzation unit in my English class, and it wasn't long before I chose "Lean on Me". It was some of the most passionate work I have ever done, love you Bill.
I'm sat here listening to this, its 4am n I can't sleep thru missing someone who was very close to me...My brother Kev who sadly took his life...we would dance n sing this when we were little...I really really wish that he had found the courage n the strength to av leaned on me...RIP Kevvy Wevvy xx
Almighty Father Yahuah God in Heaven says cry out and Lean on me. Love never fails. It always perseveres, always hopes, always trusts, and always protects. Thank you very much for sharing. Yah God Bless All...
We all need each other at this time with the global pandamic. Listening to this song gives me hope and strength. A true great Bill Withers - your music lives on in our hearts. Thank you. 💕🎶
Wish I had the talent to leave behind such a remarkable piece of work, with such insight into what kind of person I was. Thank you sir for doing something so worthwhile with your precious time here on earth. Wishing all the best to your family in their time of loss. Rest In Peace
Year six performance. i still remember practicing this song for weeks, everyone was complaining but when it came to acctualy doing it most of the class cried. Miss you childhood
Listening to the lyrics and really feeling them, make me feel so much better. Before this I felt that the number and scope of the world's afflictions was so overwhelming as to extinguish any glimmer of encouragement before one even begins to act.
I can't take it anymore I need someone to lean on right now im think I'm going through depperison and I can't take it anymore I cry so much almost every night i dont cut...yet and I've had suicidal thought
Hello dear Richard, It's good that you cry out, allowing me, if I may, to encourage you to cry out (again) to God who knows you while you were still in your mother's womb. Jesus said “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-32, New Testament, Bible). Please, Richard, call on Him Jesus now and ask Him to lead you to a church tomorrow. Please go to a church this Sunday. God is reaching out to you. GOD KNOWS MORE THAN YOU COULD EVEN IMAGINE AND LOVES YOU MORE THAN YOU COULD EVER HOPE. Read the New Testament to know more. There was also a guy who experienced something similar to you: He wrote: "Day and night I have only tears for food..." (Psalm 24, Bible). I'll pray for you.
Most people don't realize it, but the songs from the past are the best types of songs than what we have today. I'm only thirteen years old, and songs from before I was born are the songs that I absolutely love. The songs show so Mich emotion, and I can just feel it. Most of the songs now are not appropriate, and I barely listen to it. These songs however, are the types of songs that each my soul, and make me remember what being a kid and being free felt like. It makes me dream of a brighter future, ams a happier time before war. I love this song.
When were we not at war. prehistoric? humanity will always want to kill others they don't like, and people will always disagree with each other and just so u know I'm 13 too
I remember back at a summer camp when I was about 12-13 years old a bunch of the camp groups including mine were waiting to go into the kitchen for supper and a bunch of us were taking turns playing around with the piano. Well, when it was my turn I got on the piano and started playing this, and soon everyone was singing along! They let me keep playing it and continued singing until we were called in for dinner! One of my best summer camp memories ever!
This is our song. I was 22 when my Dad died. My fiancé / husband held me up and helped me carry on. These words are so powerful. We are still together 33 yrs later.
My grand mother gave me this song when I was just a little girl. I passed it down to my children and to my grand children as well. I cry every time and this song will be in my heart forever 😢💖😇🙏🌹 I love my grand mother so. She is in heaven now. R. I. H. Grammy💖💋💎🌹🙏🌸🌺🌷🤗
I listened to this on the day my aunt died and she listened to this song and it always makes me tear up when I hear it, she was the best aunt ever🙏🏻 RIP aunt Becky😭😇
i love this song to as i was a victim of both syber and school bulling and this song helped me become the strong, beautiful, and independent person im today.thank you to dana, kaedyn, gianna, connor, mateo, and evan for always sticking up for me and thank you to my mom and dad.
I listened to this on what we call natures classroom, it is 5th grade thing in some schools in New York where you go for three day and two nights in a hotel room and you can bunk with your friends. We did this thing at night were we all sang along, this was the last song we did. I remember the teachers expressions of this song and the kids, I loved it. It was beautiful with all the 5th grade singing. Thanks natures classroom, for showing me, and many others, this song.
Let's all stick together (not literally, because we need to social distance ourselves) through these hard times! RIP Bill, you lifted people's spirits throughout their hardest times, we love you.
Arnulfo Zamora maybe not physically but I firmly believe that after this life our parents, relatives and friends all remain on this earth to watch over us and take care of us and love us though not in physical bodies. That belief has brought me great comfort when I've been in your boat. Mom will always be here and she'll always love me even if I won't allways be able to talk to her and get an immediate immediate response or get a mom hug. She'll always be here
This is my favorite song and it really makes me cry whenever I hear it. It's not just the song itself but the time , tranquility, friendship and empathy it emanates is what I miss nowadays. The history of pop music ended for me in the 90's.
Yes we all do. I was listening to this song when I was on my way to comfort a friend. Now we're going to prom. Hopefully that should make her forget about all her troubles even just for one night. :)
I used to hear this song once a month at my elementary school sung by my counselor. I LO E THIS SONG SO MUCH, IT HAS BECOME APART OF ME! I would always use someone to lean on
What a great song to listen to during this terrible time with the COVID-19. We all need someone to Lean On but make sure you have a mask on and stay 6ft apart. It's great to know that you have someone to Call. The song is very moving.

This song was part of my year 6 (i live in the uk) end of year show and when we would practice it all you would hear was people saying they hated it but now years later it reminds me of all the good times we had.
I always listen to this song now because my brother just died from a car crash. He would always play this song when I feel sad. He was the best brother I ever had; and friend. I'm all alone now but I play this song every day to remember my him. I will never forget this song nor his face.
For those who stated that this song was released in 2009...I hate to burst your bubble. Bill Withers released it in 1972. Loved it in high school, and love it more now because the lyrics simply hit home. Song of the soul. Peace.
At a time like this,August of 2017 when a Hurricane has tore apart so many lives,We all need to be that shoulder to lean on!There is destruction not seen before in Texas,Houston and other areas and I hope these people will have a helping hand to get them through this. And some people have lost their lives in this terrible storm,I am only one person but I will pray for their loved ones left behind. It will surely take years to get through this,so I hope these people will have the help they need and someone to lean on.
~Everyone needs somebody to lean on, God hears our prayers and we can lean on Him always, Jesus carries our loads..and if we are blessed with a good friend, we can always call on them..
We just found out a freshman from my school district lost the fight against cancer this week, and it hit us hard. I'm only in junior high, but it still hurt, even though I didn't need him. So we didn't do anything in choir except listen to music, and we listened to this song, his song. I lost it. But now I can remember him with this song. #ForeverFlash
My parents were playing this song when the car crash happened killing them... This song makes me think of them and sad they died. I was 12 when they died I'm 14 now
Ain't it a shame how we're all taught this song for us to all learn to place our trust in other people and yet every generation that continues to come out just seems to bring about more problems where nobody can rely on anybody?
This was my lovebird's song. He used to always sing it and be by my side. But when he passed, and when I listen to this song. It doesn't feel the same and probably won't again.
it makes me cry because ever since my cat died, my father's been listening to this and crying to it. I just listen to the words and think of her. She was an optimistic cat..
When I listen to this song It fills my heart with joy like this song has so much soul and the beauty of it it has a lot of love and true harmony it reminds me when I was in Kindergarten when me and friends were playing with each other and helping each other those were the days
My teacher showed me and my class in. 3rd grade then next year in 4th. Grade in January she died and her name was Mrs. Galan so if i want to remember her i hear this song let it be but i cry 😢 wen i listen to it so plz say Mrs. Galan was a great teacher plz
+Zaira Fraijo Never got too know her, but she sounds good. 1. I am having this for my 5th grade graduation makes me so sad! Remembering 6 years of my life with old and new friends at that school! *Crying* It's so sad to think of these sad yet happy memories! Also... If you don't mind I was wondering if you know what she died from?
Jesus gave me this song to listen to, a good reminder that we can always lean on Him
RIP Bill, you carried many people through difficult times with this song. God rest your soul.

Every time I listen to this song it makes me reminisce about the good old times. It's sad, yet happy...
+Kimberly Hatch The word is nostalgia
+Gav Meiri lol, thanks :)
Kimberly Hatch Sorry, I guess tone can't be conveyed through text. I didn't mean to sound agressive

Hey I’m 14! But you guys are probably 14 now.

This makes me cry thinking that my mom wont be here forever.

Hello how are you doing
This song brought me to tears and made me really emotional and if you want to hear a really heartbreaking but happy story in the end I'd think you'd like to hear it.
so a little bit a ago, a baby was born. His name was Christopher Duffley. He was born blind and premature. He also had Autism. Later on in his life he and his family realized he had an amazing talent for singing. I never really got to know him, but I went to school with him just two or three years ago. He now goes around and he's bn in different states singing in choirs and organization type thingies to support Autism. He is now 14.
This song makes me emotional because it was the exact same song Christopher had sang to my whole school on Wednesday, December 23rd 2015 to honor the retirement of our gym teacher, Mrs Johnson, who had been working there at Northwest for 22 years.
Christopher's singing was so pitched perfectly and heartfelt I was about to cry. So many other people were crying around me. I was standing only three feet away from Christopher when he sang. His voice was amazing.
a few hours later, I went to Google him. Maybe I could learn a bit about him, I thought. I came across his UA-cam channel called Christopher Duffley. Nearly 15,000 subscribers. I watched almost all of the videos of his. I was so inspired by him. He went through so much, and was still successful because of how hard he works. When I saw this song I started singing it, remembering how he poured his heart into singing it. I started crying, singing, and it was just so inspiring. I advise you to look at his channel. He truly is one of a kind. -J
