There currently is no suitable successor at this time and one or two will have passed on it like a hot potato. At the moment China will be in a state of flux. Too many variables though. USA election, this situation, and Russia's meddling in social media (esp. Twitter, TikTok) is leaving the route ahead cloudy. Taiwan should be on high alert at this time.
My guess xi want to distance himself from the military 🪖 and also want them weak to not Coup d'etat and also to not be associated to any negative that maght comes out of the military 🪖 . And it's can show xi jinping is paranoid and cautious probably bacause his reign is weakening like Hitler last hours are desperate to keep your and his life all intact! @@critique7767 sure but with our missile defense system we can shoot it down and even if they where able to overwhelm the our missile defense system and strike US soil the retaliation against them would be devastating. Not only are we far more technologicaly advanced unlike the PLA the US military has extensive experience with warfare with every conflict we our soldiers gain more experience and while those soldiers inevitably get older and leave the military everything they learned is passed on to the next generation of soldiers.
i think it's possible that the PLA is similar to the Russian army in the sense that the top brass is too busy enriching themselves through corruption and that the last thing they want to do is fight a war.
A competent military is something that an illegitimate authoritarian regime cannot possess for very long. The only way for an authoritarian regime to have a competent military is if the state already has a professional and competent military, when the authoritarians seize political power by political means. An authoritarian regime with a competent and professional military is one charismatic and ambitious officer away from being lined up against a wall and shot. Forms of government that possess legitimacy have a route for charismatic and ambitious officers to assume power, without shooting anybody. General Grant and General Eisenhower both took that route to power (they ran for President of the United States and won). If Germany had actually won WWII, the nazis would have needed to gut the competence of the military to render it incapable of carrying out a coup d'etat. The PLA, as an arm of the Chinese Communist Party, was always watched to ensure that it could never overthrow the government
