What I have to say you may or may not want to here but the engine most likely was not broken in properly. Also after doing a lot of hard driving( BURN OUTS)the engine spun a MAIN BEARING causing the connecting rod bearings to spin giving a rod knock. Now you may ask how I know this ,first I can hear the rod knock.Secondly I am a the auto/diesel technician 35 years. There is a proper way to break in a engine and pushing a tight engine hard is as you learned the wrong way.
CRAZY HORSEPOWER You are exactly right sir! I had a 1967 GTO that I always babied, and it did the same thing. It can happen to ANY brand of car you have.
I had a 2016 Camaro SS, and my check engine light came on with less than a thousand miles. the dealer never told me what was officially wrong with it, but they went as far as to replacing the whole damn engine. I totally believe that there's something wrong with them from the factory.
K Brx you're probably right, but it reminded me when I was racing in my moms 93 Corsica back in 96 and blew a damn spark plug out of the engine! The spark plug literally shot out of the engine. Never seen anything like it before or after. It sounded just like this. When I pulled up my mom was like "wtf did you do?!?!?" Haha. Being 16 and dumb. Good times.
man we've all been there..you dont wanna know how many ford spark plugs Ive done in the last decade lol... gm has been using a fuel cut rev limiter for a while now...its like instantly knock prone and not the safest way to do it ...if I could tell every new performance gm car owner one thing its go in with hp tuners and change it to spark cut...
Speaking of cold starts, I remember back in 0when I was buying my first car out of high school. (63,xxxmi built high 12sec n/a 87 Mustang w/ 4.10 gears, have some vids on my channel). When I went to check it out with a few buddies, the guy started it and we all thought it sounded like something was wrong with it. It kept surging lime it wanted to shut off. The guy goes, no that's the cam lol. And then after a cpl min the lope leveled out.. Man I wish I would have recorded that experience. All of our hearts were pounding. It was parked reverse I his garage so it was loud as hell and no cats made it even better.
That's a shame, damn good car. I hope your friend gets it back up on the street. I'd hate for my 2015 mustang to go through this. Chevy should take care of this issue right away.
I was going to get a 2017 1SS after I drove a 2017 Mustang GT. The 1SS over power out torqued the FORD all over the HP/Torque curve but GM would not reduce price one $. Thank GOD because I will be spending a little more money but I will be getting 2018 MACH 1 Mustang GT. Glade I saw this video, there has been a Super Sport sitting in front of a Stang speed shop. I walk in started talking with the guys and they told me the powerplant seize up from a faulty oil pump. This will be my first FORD and I do hope (PRAY) they do the MACH 1 ...
Many dealers are offering 20% off the sticker plus additional dealer discounts. The LT1 is a great engine. A lemon can come along in any car even in a Mustang. If you're still interested go to cargurus.com It's a great site to see what's available in your area and what discounts dealers are offering. Good luck!
Good ole Rod knock. the sound an LS makes during its last breaths. Looks like to me he did not break his car in properly. There's a method to the madness.
My 6th gen 17 2ss 6mt just blew yesterday. 1800 miles. Same noise hopefully the same problem. This is my second 2ss 6th gen. Never had this problem with my otherone. Had it till 17000 Miles and traded it for daily. Today I finally understand what it means to have a daily lol. Life saver. Shit sucked. I had about 5 miles left too lol. My dealer was an exit away. Unfortunately it died less than a 1/4 from the dealer. So we rolled the car there.
Motor on my 2016 2SS blew at 30K. Melted a piston. Dealer send a flatbed the next morning since it happened on a Sunday. First one in my area to blow so they had to wait for a certified GM rep to come and give the OK for a new motor. Took a few weeks but got a brand new motor under warranty. Sucked not having it during prime driving season as I put it away before the first salting of the roads and I don’t drive it in the rain. But man, when I do drive it, I drive the F@%K outta that thing.
Ok when the Ferrari 458 was first released 9 of them caught on fire and that is a quarter million dollar car the LT1 is a mass production engine these things happen and are covered under warranty all the time it not really a dire situation if you look at the % of LT1 and LT4 that have failed I'm sure its less than 1%
That is a shame. This kinda makes me uncomfortable about buying 1 now. I was considering trading my current ride for something new and the camaro was on the list hmmm not so sure. Btw, nice GTO. I had a 2004 with the LS1 6 speed great car. :-)
I think it was a fluke from the factory. The SS Camaro is a nice car too, just think something random happened in the production process of that motor.
Ken Cam this is what warranties are for and the only one I've heard of so far with the 6th gens. Every now and then you hear about LS3's blowing up, but as we know, that is very rare unless you change the rev limiter to 7k. Then it's pretty easy.

Jimmy Nuth The 6.2 the lt1 and lt4 have a bad block design my dad was at a chevy dealer 3 brand new ss camaros blew up.
Rod knock 100%...can tell by the rattle-squeak.

I have the 16 haven't had that problem drive it pretty hard . Did a full diagnostic everything's good. Hope he gets a new one
You're buddy did a money shift and over reved his car....that third to second is a real bitch
bigneutron77 in an automatic?
James Mac in competition mode you can shift into lower gears that it won't let you do in sport or track
ohhh gotcha
It only had 200 miles and he was DOING BURNOUTS!!!!!! The problem was that he did not break in the motor.
He bounced off that Rev limiter like 8 times....Brand new pfft dumbass
That's a shame, damn good car. I hope your friend gets it back up on the street. I'd hate for my 2015 mustang to go through this. Chevy should take care of this issue right away.
I remember back in the day we would do a real burn out by stepping on the gas, not the brake. A yellow school bus can do a burn standing on the brake.

not surprised at all.

Jesus, hearing his LT1 knock like that makes me feel sick.
I think it blew up cause he was a stupid ass and didn't break the car in..

Yep, Stay tuned for the conclusion video. We go through what happened with the car and what they did to fix it. Thanks for watching.

put it in stealth mode lol maybe that will fix it 😂😂 Holy ish that sucks bro
What happens when you don't check your oil enough....
Jason Maki I guarantee this has nothing to do
It's the oil. The car tells you when the oil is low.
OMG that sounds awful ! Sorry man
So I looked to see if you had an update and you don't so what is the status on this motor? Did GM replace it?
James Friedman update coming soon
