    Excellent instructional video. I just replaced mine as instructed. Actually, the new struts snapped in place over the ball joint without displacing the clips.

    Nice, clean presentation! Before I watched your video, I couldn't really see the retention clips. After watching, it was perfectly clear and so easy. Thanks for sharing. BTW, nice audio quality too, which is not that common!

    Worked to perfection and only took minutes! Thanks so much. Only difficult part was unlocking the locks on the old one, but it worked fine with a little elbow grease and precision

    Thanks for the video. I don't think you need to mess with the clips on the new strut before installing them. Just push them in and they should click in place:)

    Yes, this is indeed the correct way to do it! Can't believe some of the other idiots with videos instructing to remove the pivot balls!
    Just added a comment to the one that I watched almost to completion.
    Checked other videos and they too were doing the same thing! Unbelievable.
    However, I refused to believe that all others were just the same and found yours. This one should be AT THE TOP OF THE LIST, not the others that have it all wrong!
    This is actually simple if you just LOOK at the struts and think a little bit. Not difficult at all.

      on my 2011 optima they are angled teeth that you cant push on without bending them. but on mine there is a slot you can just slide them up and once its on you just slide it down and it locks the ball in... there is no pulling out the clips required to remove or add

    Do not try to pop the clip out of the replacement new ones like he suggests in the video, no need. And it's very difficult to get the clip back in if you pop it out too far, you'll need a needle nose pliers if that happens.

    What I don't get, I've gotten new ones from 3 different suppliers and none lift the hood on my 06 Santa Fe, the factory ones are over a $100 for the pair, they lifted the hood fine but got to where they didn't lift or hold the hood up. The new ones hold the hood, but it's like lifting weights trying to open all the way, even closing is hard, even keeps pushed up on sides when closed. First set was the Ama*on, second R*ck auto, third from Auto Z*ne, any clues? I can't return th AZ as I've had them too long, but I hate checking under hood because of these things.

    What was holding up the hood? Was the strut you were working with still good? I'd sure like to see how a pro keeps the hood safely up to do the work when both of the struts are worn out. Seems pretty important to me. Those hoods can be heavy enough to kill a man if the hood were to fall on your head. I guess it is easy if the parts are still good. BOOOOO!

    • @BadTV1993
      @BadTV1993 Рік тому

      a regular prop stick or a nice sized breaker bar in good position will hold it..or you could just undue both struts and lean the hood all the way back onto the windscreen..(id pad the windshield just in case, but usually works no problemo

  • @MrWadsox
    @MrWadsox 8 років тому

    The difference between his struts and mine is that his still held the hood up. Mine don't.
    Also, when he puts the strut back in, the camera's clear across the engine bay, so you can't see with any detail how he snaps it back into place. I find it odd that he had the camera in close at first, then moved it back.

    • @BadTV1993
      @BadTV1993 Рік тому

      they usually snap themselves into place once you wiggle them just a lil bit

    I replaced mine as you directed on my 2002 Lincoln Navigator but the new ones don't hold up the hood any better than the old ones. Is there a way to adjust or firm them up?

    • @nh7226
      @nh7226 7 років тому

      Unless they are adjustable shocks, (which is unusual for anything besides actual suspension), then I'd say you probably got a faulty set. The best way to tell is the minute they go on, they should immediately have no problems and come with full strength. For instance, with the trunk struts, I replaced mine yesterday, and the minute they went on, my trunk went from needing to be held up/lifted when opened, to just propping open after I opened it/gently pushed up.

    Are the struts handed, or not

  • @Esqj
    @Esqj 4 роки тому

    I just did my BMW and the loosening of the clip is unnecessary! A quick twist of a flat-tip and they pop off! The replacement just snaps into place! The metal clips have enough flex to be temporarily displaced! I avoided trying get a screwdriver tip into a spot where it could slip (damaging my paint and/or my hand)!

  • @alexbond8240

    Can you take one of the trunk struts and swap it with the broken hood strut??

    • @nh7226
      @nh7226 7 років тому

      Only if they're the same length, I've only seen a few cars that have hood struts as short as the trunk, and trunk struts are only normally long on hatchbacks/SUV's.

    Sorry not that easy this way.
    Just prop it in way that it partially closes to match the new one height(since you can’t always manually extend them) and pop them in.
    Bottom first. Pinch clamps closed.
