I just got my first Florida King Sunday of last week. He's a baby at just about 10-12" with literally one of the best personalities I've seen from a king like ever! His name is Asterix got him to eat only a couple days after getting him and he was going through a bit of rough shed at the store. He has since completed shedding and is still adjusting to his setup but he's getting better every time I work with him. Little Asterix is my little buddy and I'll make dang sure he knows that I'm his best friend! So far I love my little buddy! 😁🤙
Excellent breakdown mate, really BUMMER as Subspecies are very unique, no one would risk their bloodline, collection by breeding their Goini from levy Co , FL to an Eastern King from South Georgia :{
Thank You Chaz,Your knowledge and enthusiasm is greatly appreciated.Kingsnakes and milkshakes are my favorites,I will try to check out all Your videos of all other snakes to learn as You are a great teacher.
I was always told the females get larger than the males so that's great to no I was wrong. I'm hoping to have my own buy the end if the week. Gorgeous animal
Thank you so much for the information. I wish I could have seen your charts better! I wanted to screenshot the data so I could save it for later. I really appreciate the work you put into getting all that information about their natural range.
I used to have Florida kingsnakes and a Brooksi kingsnake. The Florida kingsnakes were great pets. They were quite tame, especially the female ones. I had a female that absolutely loved attention. She'd always crawl up to my hand. When I took her out she'd crawl up over my shoulder, around the back of my neck, then up and over my ear then would turn to lick my nose with her tongue. She'd also wrap around my wrist and be happy as a clam, with her tail wrapping and unwrapping. My brooksie became obese with a double chin. This was many years ago.
Excellent Chaz think you covered that one completely! Taxonomy is an interesting branch of naturalists,good to raise the bar and something we should all be interested in.
Hi im from the uk and just bought our first ever snake have been told its a Apalachicola king snake, whats the best way to tell this is correct if there is so much similarities
I was looking for the proper humidity level for a Florida King and this was recommended . Great video , I learned a lot . I 'm very surprised that some higher ups in the courts of genus naming , would not want to differentiate the Brooks from a typical Floridana . I have a Brooks and he looks much different . He's darker brown with small pinkish spots ( not round ) on his sides . He looks very different in color . Anyway , can you tell me what the humidity should be in his tank . I know Florida can be a bit higher in humidity than elsewhere ? Thanks
This gave me a great idea of what mine will look like as an adult. He's a normal and has gotten lighter as it's aged its about 1.5 years old and still pretty small. When it was a baby it was quite dark with yellow and a bit of orange on the sides. The colors have become more muted as he gets bigger
Hello! I love your videos and am fascinated about kingsnakes and north american colubrids so I've been learning a ton from these. Would you happen to be open to identifying the locality and/ or subspecies of 2 snakes that I own? Weirdly you seem to know more than most american breeders about kingsnakes in general.
