It was really fun working with you on this, Andy!
you too Jack. Total legend. Anyone needs some coding solutions go to d3vl.com
I love your ingenuity! Another great video. Thanks Andy!
thanks so much
Great work
As usual Andy, you manage to come up with something different and more interesting than everyone else. Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much
Love this! Great post, Good Sir!
That is awesome Andy!
Thanks!
Thanks for your time and effort on this one, mate.
ah thanks so much chris. Trying this weekend to get it under a second haha
well done, super fun.
Brilliant video buddy. Keep them coming 👌👌👍👍
Lol I could imagine some fast speed runs being logged on draggy in the near future... this is too good of a challenge.
That's what I'm hoping for really because there are much faster quads out there. I think quads are the best for drag racing and I really look forward to someone Beating this one
That's a cool experiment!
Awesome 👏
I've been around the hobby since late 2015. I've never heard of this quad. Good video
One of his video reviews accompanied by Grumpy Trevor's review inspired me to fly my +/-79 MPH 4". 😉.
I'm a happy hobby Pilot.😁
It’s the TransTec Laser HD
Great stuff! :-)
Nice.. and fair play to Draggy for leaving the time up. They should make a category 👍
They are looking into that now which is cool
Great idea for a video. I really wanna see how fast my quad is now
This is excellent stuff. For faster times you should mount the dragy and phone aligned with the top plate as you're generating a huge amount of aerodynamic drag with both sideways. If the dragy needs to be mounted sideways for functioning, it's still better to mount the phone lengthways regardless. Lastly, maybe print a mount that keeps the dragy level when the drone is at 45 incline? You'll probably get your top speed back!
Pretty sweet Andy
Thanks 👍
Love the gimmick, and that's a nice little setup to get it done.
Bedankt
Ah thanks so much that's awesome of you :-)
@@AndyRCchannel 👍👍
Very cool Andy, it's a shame they didn't add an RC vehicles option to the app, but at least they're happy to leave your time on it.
after speaking to them they are looking at doing that. pretty cool :)
Right, I was thinking the same thing.
Although I bet this could fun to use and useful to check for performance gains after you make hardware changes or betaflight changes but id imagine the size shape and weight would make this basically useless for anyone serious about this times sense its fairly heavy and relatively big kit thats basically like adding lead parachute to your racing drone that is always deployed
Damn!
That's fantastic! Very cool, Andy! I love this unique content. 😎🤘
Mind if I ask what props you're using? Or even a quick breakdown (or link) of the build specs? Much appreciated! 🙌
I dont think dji sell it any more but the props are the APC 5x4.6 BN i beleive dji nicked the transtec laser HD frame with tmotor HOM 1750kv and the T motor F55 A PRO II + F4HD stack
@@AndyRCchannel beautiful, thanks very much! Yeah I had no intention of buying one, but I was thinking of building a drag racer, and was curious about what was under the hood. Honestly I'm actually surprised that they're only 1750kv Motors.
Everyone else is doing the same videos, and you are always doing something new and interesting, and I love it. Keep it up. Take care, Andy. ✌️
@@willpowerfpv3246 thanks so much. Yeah 1750kv works well. Any larger and just more voltage sag. Cheers
Which props are these? Biblades are indeed the fastest way to go and surprisingly efficient if you take it easy 😉
iv added them to the pinned comment / video description
This is awesome!
I once left a comment on a video where you voiced that lipo batteries typically last you ~50 cycles, and I remember being dumbfounded at the concept. I understand now.
Do you remember that "mile out and back" time challenge that was going around a few years ago? I watched someone do it (I think AG Cannonball, or something like that, I think the guy doing it was a race car driver, maybe formula something-or-other) using their gps data, and just some manual calculations afterwards, (using geographical points, google maps for distance, and total time). Your results are much more credible, and I love that you have them on leaderboards. His results were less precise than yours, and less defensible to scrutiny by a mile.
Like you, I hate that you had to add the ~100gr to your rig. I would love it if this became popular enough for the ppl who make "Draggy" to make a UAV version! What if you stripped down your Draggy, like a naked GoPro? That could be a thing...
That's a great way of thinking. I did decase it. But it's really as minimalistic as it could be and sadly it can't be used when USB is plugged in so you can't do a battery delete even though it's a small battery in general. I agree that it will be awesome if they came up with a lightweight drone solution that didn't rely on a phone to store the data. After speaking to them they seem really interested in broadening the use of there technology. I liked it over the idea of betaflight GPS info because I found it to be really inaccurate. And like you say dagy is completely validation. Hopefully it's planted something in there heads. I suppose the video would need to go viral for them to consider it. Sadly that's harder to do these days
Mby u could try to angle the dragy with a mount so that u can do a proper race start. Idk if that would be faster but it's really cool that u beat those leaderboards.
I have thought about this. It won't allow more than -1 slope so it would be very difficult to acheive that amount of accuracy with launch mode. But I am gonna keep seeing if I can get faster
Skyrc gsm-020 would be way lighter would have thought I use for rc car speedruns and drag racing
Doesn't have the nice overlay. They should get on that. I have one for the car but don't think it's much lighter
Fantastic flying, Andy! Amazing work!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I know unless your rag the nuts off, willful destruction of craft is generally not something we do but I'd love to see something like that hit a large flat solid object at that speed, the destruction would be something to see and I Dont know if the lipo would even be able to catch fire as I think it would be torn apart beyond that from the insane impact lol
How r u?- love it-incredible edition-goodbye!! 👌
Writing history 🙂
Thank you :-)
Fun video, great experiment. One tip, also mention the metric speed value, so in km/h
You can download the app and select your units and go view the numbers if you like. We don't do Kph in UK drag strips.
@@AndyRCchannel think about your international audiance ;) most of do use km/h. Still fun experiment. Perhaps the organization can add quad as a vehicle type
@@nosmokingnl sadly I have to think about viewer retention and make short videos. Going through Kph as well as mph would double the length of the video so you can thank UA-cam and it's algorithm shenanigans for that. Would putting the results in kph in the description help? Thanks for the suggestion
✌👍😎
Haha thats so cool but you could have gone a litte lighter with a vista or analog vtx? I love the fact that it has 1300 Liters of displacement lol
hehe had to put something in there. Yeah it was something I didnt even think would work so gonna try to improve on this for sure. thx
Fastest up such a steep grade too?!
Yes but a quad goes a little faster with a slight incline. Otherwise the props start to act as brakes
That was fun.....your poor little 1300 6S lipo though....It's a cell killer....🤔😳🇬🇧
Yes it's an expensive video to make. Only had 3 batteries with me and each run kills them. But it was fun and that was the main thing.
and to think a tesla model S can do 0-60 in 2.1 seconds and quarter mile in 9.4. that would be like riding on this quad. that is insane.
Yes the quads advantage is how quick it can get up to speed. Generally hasn't got a fast top speed but if it can get to a slower speed much quicker then it will still beat a much faster car to the finish line
so this is the first dji race quad ? 🤔
It is yes :-)
My fastest is just under 150 MPH. 2750kv on 6s with APC bi blades. Friggen ripper!
My mate does car videos where he uses the draggy in other people's modified cars. We had a discussion and was going to do this but we've never had the time between us to get it done. So you beat us to it 🤣🤣. Interesting to know you need the android phone in such close proximity. Still going to give it a go sometime. Awesome stuff that's one fast Ferrari
Now you have even more reason to do it. To beat my time ;-)
@@AndyRCchannel challenge accepted 👍🏻
What quad is that?
its the first quad dji sold when they released the v1 goggles and air unit / vista
@@AndyRCchannel Oh ok you said that in the video I think but I didn't understand because I'm a newb. I thought you meant the first bnf with a HD vtx. Didn't realize it's an actual DJI drone. I only know about their large FPV model.
@@Kraken9911 not many do but it's what opened the door to their bespoke closed source drone
Ferrari SF90 has also done 9.6 sec 1/4 mile! ;)
Nice. What was it's 0-60?
@@AndyRCchannel 2.3 sec
@@ronnyleeway930 too bad ;-)
@@AndyRCchannel Yeah, ain't beating your drone! :)
@@ronnyleeway930 at the quarter mile maybe. If I didn't have to carry the 100 grams I think I could get the quarter on it
That's great dude.......i bet it's battery killer tho.. heh....i need your help man..ur knowledge....i have a firefly nano baby flywoo drone as we talked once recently and I tried three bladed blades and it's MUCH better but other than that my camera died suddenly And my good solder iron wasn't available here so I used one old one and by mistake I removed and I never found of course a 0402 size capacitor and I asked the spec which is 12pf/16v and if two tiny resistors removed too cause I can't say for sure cause even with macro camera zoom it's not clear... I went to 3 guys who repair tiny boards mostly phones...and all said the same thing...to bring them the parts ready so they can put them on which i can do myself with my good solder gear.....i have tones of vtx fc ESC rx tx Which have on them that size of capacitors but is there any way to know before i take it off any part? I mean mostly is there any site which shows everything on every boards existing? ....i can tell you some parts which seems to have exactly size but how can I know the pf and V? .....and is there any way to get in touch to talk directly to you? Sorry for the long message man
Honestly by the time you have done all that it will cost just as much as just getting a new board. So that would be my advice. Life's too short
@@AndyRCchannel time to do what? I'm not willing to pay 95euro for new AIO board even I have new camera for the firefly nano it will sit useless unless I manage to repair the capacitor part....it doesn't worth another,95 for any reason man
@@lfrecords3970 In that case I just hope you are able to repair it because I value time over money. And if you can't fix it then you have lost both. Best of luck either way
@@AndyRCchannel they will send me capacitors and resistors in my next order to be able to fix it....i just need the right tools to do so tiny parts soldering...i had one good SOLDERING IRON... now I have a crap one that's why I did and this damage.....can you suggest me any cheap kit which maybe include and heat gun? Cause I managed in the past to do successful solderings in so tiny capacitors with just a soldering iron but chances are like 30%success 70@fail cause of shaking hand or capacitor stack on the tip of the soldering iron etc..... ONLY one thing is sure.... If i have it repaired and working like new Will take months from now and damn I didn't enjoy it More than 20 days and I listened your advice and added xt30 plug on the board for more power but to be honest I didn't notice any difference mate.....i noticed difference with the 3 bladed blades tho from newer model which Irony is in the order I M waiting now I got the full newer X frame with the camera which started all this trouble...
@@lfrecords3970 this is why I say a new FC would end up more cheaper as the soldering is so miniature even with the best soldering irons (I use a hako or modded ts100 with really fine tips) it will still cost more than an new FC on top of time. There's also the issue of the pads getting lifted. With tiny boards they usually use solder paste templates for repair rather than irons. But you will probably want a new iron anyways. As for a heat gun I use iroda micro therm which is a very tiny heat gun.. but even then you can't rule out it desoldering other components on such a small board. My recommendation would be to buy a new FC but if you still want to try and fix the board those are the tools I have. I wouldn't attempt it personally though. And this comes from starting my channel with micros. Either way I hope you get it sorted and it doesn't cost you a fortune. Cheers
Great fun! Higher C-rated packs will also help with reducing voltage sag. High-C packs do cost much more, vs. purchasing a higher capacity pack (which weights more).
To solve the issue with Draggy needing to be level at the start, preventing you using a starting block; you couple print a 3d-printed mount (or a foam wedge) at an appropriate angle a bit less than required to sustain level flight. This would reduce the amount of height gain, and thus improve your initial start speed (and acceleration).
Yes they were high c 1300. Anything lower than 1300 and it's in a 4s voltage at the 8th mile. Higher c batteries are much heavier as well. I tried a 1500 but it went slow at 3 seconds to 60. This was the best it could for now. The issue with mounting the dragy at an angle is that it only has a tolerance of 1 percent. So even using launch mode would be very difficult to judge.. however I'm still going to try anyway. Believe it or not I've probably done a couple of hundred speedruns back in the day when racing drones were all the rage and having a slight incline always produce a faster time. At a certain point if you have too much angle the props start to act as brakes. Intersting eh? thanks for watching
@@AndyRCchannel All great points.
The issue of propeller pitch acting as brake at higher speeds is a huge challenge, particularly given starting from 0 mph. (Need both ends of speed spectrum, without compromise)
Variable pitch (aka constant rotational speed props) would typically be an ideal solution, but the weight constraint on drones is a much bigger issue.
This such a great challenge for engineering and for pilots alike. Hopefully gets more interest by the larger community, as it could help drive innovation.
Great content as always, thanks Andy. :)
@@AerialWaviator Yes i would love that :) thanks i should have perhaps asked people to share the video more
