Quick lesson in how power, torque and rotational speed and thrust works: At 120Nm of torque with 1kW you would be left with 2.4 RPM. Thrust can roughly be modelled as proportionate to RPM^2 x D^2 (D being diameter of prop) So by lowering the RPM by >2000x you’d have to increase the diameter by the same amount. Giving the prop a diameter of >2km doesn’t sound perfect but idk I’m just an aero space engineer 🤷♂️

They won't be able to sell them here in the states because Congress will say they are reporting riders' travel information back to China, which is potentially dangerous to our national security. 🤣
Keeping our data out of the hands of the CCP is one of the few things our government should be concerned with.
@user-zu5do6ri6r Your data is already for sale for whoever wants to buy it. The whole national security excuse is such bullshit. You think anyone cares about your biking stats?
They are also concerned about TikTok data. I don’t know what CCP feels like when they see all those new teenage dance trends.
Why?
DJI is still being sold in the USA and still used by law enforcement.
This guy is obviously very passionate about this product and knows all the stats. If it is priced right then they should make a killing in the Emtb market.I look forward to learning more.
Perfect motor and battery for electric Paramotor. Very light and powerful enough for take off.
Quick lesson in how power, torque and rotational speed and thrust works:
At 120Nm of torque with 1kW you would be left with 2.4 RPM.
Thrust can roughly be modelled as proportionate to RPM^2 x D^2 (D being diameter of prop)
So by lowering the RPM by >2000x you’d have to increase the diameter by the same amount.
Giving the prop a diameter of >2km doesn’t sound perfect but idk I’m just an aero space engineer 🤷♂️
Wow, wow. Now that is a game changer.
I have to admit, it is! (I hate emtbs honestly)
Expensive as hell!
They should just put the DJI name on the bike. The brand is so well established that people would love to have a MTB with DJI name.
Won't be able to sell in the US then within a year or two. Most likely the reason they did not.
@@n3orun TikTok moved its headquarters to Singapore, but they still did not escape US sanctions
@@n3orun Nah, it'll be because they want to sell the motors to other bike manufacturers, and they don't want to be seen as competing against their own customers.
DJI are so clever at developing new tech and if you ever get the chance to play with some of there products they are the best quality. My only true concern is that as output levels rise so does component wear???, what would have made this bike truly special would be belt drive, We URGENTLY need a different transmission system for ebikes, Shimano/Sram take note, put more development into a new belt/transmission system, please. Great video Rob.
This!!! Well said.
Belt drive would be good. That’s why I want a priority hot sauce
I own 85Nm Shimano Motor and I can hear chain and casette cry everytime I go hard uphill. 120Nm, wow, this will be critical.... You are right, transmission must get changed.
LinkGlide exists, works really well on ebike and is cheap. Shifts under full load no problem, lasts a lot longer.
It is called Pinion MGU
I don't think I've ever been so excited about subscribing to a channel! DJI king of industry.
Enginuity in so many different platforms. A company not limited by politics has enormous power. DJI ❤
Fair play they have knocked the other mtb manufacturers out of the park. Bike looks great and the system as a whole sounds awesome 👌
So that‘s some stunning new tech we want to see. I am excited !
DJI entering the bike market with e-bike motors is definitely a huge surprise! Hopefully the new competition will be beneficial to the development of future products and lower prices for consumers.
Well done Rob been following you to a fair extent pretty much sice day one never noticed you quietly smashing EMBN right out of the park congrats :)
You can see how proud the DJI guy is when talking about the bike, thats probably a good sign! :) I would love a bike with this motor, but i'm not a 100% certain about the new frame/bike brand. If we could get this motor and battery on other bike brands, that would be great, but I got the feeling we wont.
Nailed the looks and spec! Will for sure look into getting one if the price is reasonable.
NO MENTION OF PRICE? IF you have to ask for the price, you CANNOT AFFORD IT.
$12K USD
Duh it's dji😂 when did they want cheap
But… compared to the top of the line manually powered mountain bikes that’s actually not terrible
@@benreiter7218 it’s not a top of the line MTB, though. It’s good, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not competition legal…so, well, it’s competition isn’t top of the line mountain bikes.
@@TheOfficialOriginalChad lol the price of a car
In love with my DJI products, this is going to do incredibly well!
Wow- DJI is the only Chinese company known to be industry leaders in design and quality. Love my Mavic, so can't wait for this! Wish it had a gearbox though.
You must live in the West where the media tells you nothing but lies regarding Industrial competitors in the "multi-polar" World. Have you not heard of Huawei??
Xiaomi ? Huawei?
That’s just BS.
There is more then consumer end products.
@@lolopinpin4950 We don't get Huawei here because of all the spyware. Never heard of Xiaomi.
spotted myself at 0:39 - can't believe we were on the same bit of trail!!
wish i'd said "hi"
dude, it is a really good one :)
This is incredible. I genuinely love it. My only problem is the lack of service network, but that’s a compromise that many are willing to make, especially from a reputable company like DJI. Great Job, Rob. Appreciate your coverage.
There’s no service network for Shimano either…
@@Coolcmsc Most bike shops will work on Bosch and Shimano motors because they have dealer software and deals with them to send parts. Bike shops already sell hundreds of Shimano products, so it makes sense that they’d support them too.
I think they will grow the network soon
This is awesome
Imagine Dji drone connected to the bike and does all those cool things
Oo yes , the follow me mode perfected , its such a dream for us ..
You get fly-away AND ride-away in one 🎉🥳
Follow mode!
WOW, THAT IS INCREDIBLE JUST WILD. I'D LOVE TO BE ABLE TO RIDE A BIKE AGAIN AGAIN.
I've never been so excited for new tech. This looks the dogs bollox!!!!! I'd best get saving.
Awesome e-bike DJI! Great video, Rob!
Bosch has left the chat.😅
Water has entered the dji motor
Hahhahaja
@@militaryrig Yes. And then you wake and the dream is over.
For people saying DJI came out of nowhere with this advanced bike don’t realize DJI was the first company to master drones just imagine how much advanced they have been on electric tech and probably did alot o behind the scenes R&D and also the fine tuning they had to do to make the motor
The U.S. and EU bike makers will cry uncle and ask for 100% tariffs from their governments.
Probably not. This brand isn't a slapped-together battery fire waiting to happen. Byd are burning at a rate that well exceeds what would necessitate a complete recall. So why even let them over? I wouldn't and you shouldn't either.
@@napalmholocaust9093 battery fires have nothing to do with bad quality, it's misinformation. All ICE cars catch fire all the time but the US media ignores it completely. Where i live i did not see any reports of electric car fires but every months 4-5 ICE cars catch fire in this small city of 200k.
@dtibor5903 yes and when an ice car catches fire it can usually be extinguished and repaired. If an electric car goes thermal runaway it's a total loss, no chance of being repaired.
most US and EU bike makers make everything except the electric 1:19 part
@@steveo6034i did not really see any case where somebody extinguished the fire, so what's the difference? Most fires are happening when parking due to vandalism, electric shorts (mice, rats) or on accidents. Where do you have a chance to stop a fire before total damage? There is near zero chance.
Name another company like DJI. Drones, action camera's, gimbals, now e bikes. Smart engineers for a fact.
I love dji can’t wait for this
Damn that's a good looking e-bike. The engine as well as the battery and controller are such nicely implemented it rly looks clean and sleek. Black and gold also quite a cool color scheme.
This at a sensible price will have the big players quaking.
what’s the purpose of the planetary gear system? 3 gears just rotating around the shaft which connects directly anyway just with added complexity
It would have been a bombshell if something was done about the insane prices.
Can't wait for DJI to evolve into the electric motorcycle and ev industry. They are right in terms of the level of battery and motor tech, and software integration being a natural crossover to the ebike scene, so there's def lots of potential for them to eventually develop e-motorcycles and evs that have better efficiencies and features compared to the current tech
I guess in the future there would be flying cars from DJI
Really wish they could do something like a single speed belt drive with the motor that compensate for the lack of gears, pinion mgu comes to mind but it's crazy expensive, but the belt drive solves all the wear and tear problems that rise from an emtb and makes it costly to own.
The pinion changes like a bag of spanner's
DJI coming in to remind everyone that they’re kind of goated at software, battery density, and motor efficiency when it comes to this type of stuff. I’m not the least bit surprised the product is amazing. That 800wh pack is pretty impressive
To be a game changer the water ingress protection needs to be IP68 and the warranty 5 years
Exciting times when DJI come on board with their tech. It really shows the advancement of E-MTB and the direction big players see the market going.
4:50 - 800 watts?!?!!? That guy does not understand what is W and Wh. LOL! Who on earth uses watts to measure battery capacity?!
Yea bit of a worry
DJI has some of the brightest engineers in the world. Not a shock they did this.
More importantly, they design everything in house. The other e-bike manufacturers don't design and build their own motors.
@@lolilollolilol7773 Exactly. They use vertical integration to fully control every aspect of the product, which enables them to produce magical things. I have a couple DJI drones and the technology still blows my mind.
Sweet. Now they can brick my e-bike with an update too.
So glad that I hold off getting an emtb. Can't wait for the dji system to become widely available
Must come with a huge pricetag.
other than cube and radon everything all fox factory is usually 10k and you can add the "most powerful motor on the market" and "lightweight" card so yeah
They said 7-12k, which seems competitive
This is refreshing breaking all the mental barriers.
How much is it and when are they available? Available in Canada too?
Not available because of sanction, Canadian government says it will spy on you😊
DJI making bike components wasn't on my cards for this year. Amazing.
I still dont want a 20kg bike, but I am impressed by the tech.
Just needs a gearbox
get rid of those pesky chaindrives - it is 2024 fgs
Spot on, c'mon DJI, where's the motor gearbox combo?
It’s electric there’s no point 😂
In fairness, they just need this first bike and tech combo to get market share. Given their skills I'm sure the motor/gearbox combo will come very soon after. Also let's them fix any quibbles on this current model.
@@Pizza-xi3fsdefinitely has a large rpm range.
whenever dji does something, even when for the first time they do it the propper way. this is impressive.
Nice but the price is a bit much for us regular guys
Owft - amazing! I've been using their drones for 5-6yrs now and they're amazing - great they're joining the ebike party :)
Did not see this coming!!
This bike is a work of art in every aspect.
Good to know a 1000w is fully street legal.
250w nominal certified but 1000w peak power 👍
@@RobRidesEMTB certified by who?
@@droneracer The Vienna Convention on Road Traffic was signed by almost every country in Europe, America, and Asia, an international agreement aimed at improving road traffic safety through the standardization of traffic rules developed in 1968. @@rpgPalette your last parapragh contradicts what was said in the vid. 1000w is legal.
The peak power is 1000W, but it is only sustained for a very short duration. Official regulations require a limit of 250W for a continuous period of 30 minutes (depends which country).
Cargo bike, nuvinci extreme hub, solid 5-6 spoked wheels and this mid drive motor 2kWh battery and you got a bike I would buy in a heartbeat.

A smart way to take the entire Market Good 👍 job Dji 👌 you are the only one that make good stuff. From pro cameras , the best video transmitters , wireless microphones, etc.
If I didn’t already have an eMTB, I totally get one!
I’ve used DJI drones for six years and they make fantastic products.
Everything they make seems to be a hit!
If they were Japanese or German, they’d be embraced much more by everyone, because they consistently produce top notch and sophisticated products.
Geeze, this is awesome. I would love to see this motor in a custom Brompton !!!
This looks awesome! I already figured it was going to be really good, but also very expensive lol..
DJI always makes top quality products. They're the "Apple for Drones & Camera's." They also make drone motors and ESC circuitry for the newer drones for more efficiency and run time, plus more speed as well... Every model they create or make a 2nd version, there is always a newer better design, and like with this it's no exception. Extremely well made but you do pay for that quality.
Their warranty and service center for their electronics has been great and they have some of the best repair prices. Some of these movie set Drones, Industrial use, or Agricultural Drone Setup can cost as much as $50K...
Just like how former DJI engineers innovated the 3D Printer industry they must have a culture of innovation. Wish more companies had this mindset.
Also: Today I learned the “I” in DJI is for Innovation!
Wow, very very impressive for their first go. Current manufacturers are going to have to catch up!
holding off on buying an ebike has been very rewarding. I get excited new tech comes out but never commit. Leaving that for the chumps that need to upg every year..Buoght a DJI drone that was worth 2k for $300 a couple months ago.
Bosch will now the GoPro of the ebike industry.
This is what war does, pushes tech/innovation forward. DJI was perfectly placed to ride this wave.
With a limited market, it only makes sense for DJI to branch into other markets if they want to continue growing. Pretty smart move. Hope they continue to maintain the reliability of their products across the board. Dropped my Osmo Action 1 in the sea without a dive case more than a month ago (yeah, I was overly confident I wouldn't drop it from the kayak, aftermarket batteries also meant it might not be properly sealed). Retrieved it but could no longer turn it on (stupid move). Water got in through battery slot. Thought it was permanently dead. Left it to dry for over a month, then turned it on again, and what a surprise it works again.
Great work here. Finally I see some innovation regarding battery and charging and other stuffs. But I'm wondering when we'll see a USB-C charger for pocket, what it's so difficult to minimize that giant charger.
DJI nailing what I was looking for. A lightweight transportation vehicle that is still a bike. I want one.
Bikes and aircraft have a history of shared tech for over 100yrs
I was leaning towards the integrated gearbox e-bike. Was there any mention of DJI doing a motor with integrated gearbox?
Pushing the industry. Very much needed!
I don’t care for the bike, but the motor 🤤. Put this in the Santa Cruz heckler
