    I ridiculed this amp way back when it first came out based totally on some of the crap presentations on youtube. Having bought this amp last week I would like to humbly apologise. This amp is awesome. The recordings on youtube do not the Amp any justice. In the home the sound is massive at low volumes. I have 2 sets of rechargeables and carry this little demon around everywhere I go.

    Bought this off Andertons and just received it today...I was totally surprised on how decent the amp actually is....I'm always fidgety about my tone and clarity even on high gain distorted tones and this amp definitely has that clarity of tone factor in it...end of the day it depends on how experienced a guitar player u r to handle such an amp...I compared this amp with my MARSHAL SL-5 honestly speaking this kinda kicked the crap out of it on room volume level....MARSHAL being a tube amp needs to be cranked up to get that tone your looking from an amp...one other thing is that its pretty light as well to carry about....one let down was that u need to put AA batteries in it rather than having an in built battery....but u can always get rechargeable batteries (still points go off for that)....SPEAKERS on this are actually very good definitely replaces all ur other desktop speakers or portable speakers...one can always do a gig with it by mic`ing it....so definitely recommend it for people who want a small combo amp with some versatility in it and prefer recording at home

    You know it would be really cool to have a product like this that also doubles as a head. Like you can set it to be a small practice amp or plug it into a cab, change the settings and get a nice gigging amp

    I just got this for a early B/DAY Fathers day gift,and just think it's awesome! Thanks for the review.
    I'm having a blast playing along with some of my favourite guitar music and getting the tones.
    My wife and daughter will be watching some hugely boring tv show while i'm in the same room wailing with something like Van Halen through headphones.

    @fraidwoodcesco the THR10 has 2x3" speakers based on the high end stereo systems from Yamaha. Point is isn't suppose to be pushing out air like a Guitar normally amp does but to provide the finished and polished sounds you would listen to on a high end stereo system if you were listening to something allready mixed and mastered.

  • @andertons

    Many people have pointed out the hum. Yamaha rectified this problem with a new improved power supply which is now shipping with new units.

    @spudy44 if the powersupply is the older type that causes the buzzing they should replace it (that's what we're doing for our customers) free of charge but you'll have to ask them and see.

    Got one yesterday.from a Swedish retailer
    The power cable was missing but i had some of those so that didn't stop me
    It actually does sound very good at low volumes and that's what i bought it for.
    Especially that goes for the not so much distorted settings
    Also tried feeding the aux input with Spotify from an Android phone but i would not call that Hi Fi that's for sure.

  • @RFreigeldorff

    hehe. same here. "I am serious about guitar playing you know, I won't pick up the guitar unless it is a boutique amp, 5w valve amp for practice maybe, but no less."
    this thing proved me wrong. great piece of kit. sounds stellar, regardless of size. onboard effects are very good, decent speakers. plus, via usb it makes a quite good recording interface.
    honestly? no brainer.

    the hum was caused by the power adapter which was a problem that affected the first run series. it has been solved already and everyone who was affected by it got a free replacement adapter from yamaha. by the way, i think it's sounds fucking awesome!!!

  • @BRANDX_MANAGEMENT
    @BRANDX_MANAGEMENT 13 років тому +1

    I have played one and they sound AMAZING!!! Don't be fooled by the mic'd up sound on the video...it doesn't capture the stereo spread or the bass response too well. The audio playback is as good as a Bose Idock system and it comes with Cubase AI for free so you can record direct to your computer. What's not to like??? Or you could just stick to your 'great' processed sounding modelling L***e 6 boxes! ha...

  • @YamahaTHR

    @jwebsmall It's an 812V from a 4-5 ago. It's stock apart from the bridge pickup is a Duncan Screamin' Demon (std was a JB) and the natural finish was never available in a production 812V.

  • @andertons
    @andertons  12 років тому

    @stoofbuis unfortunately it doesn't have speaker outs. Even if it did it would be somewhat against the raison d'etre of this amp which is to sound good as quiet as possible!

  • @theverbalrelease
    @theverbalrelease 13 років тому

    @BradleyJohnHunt If you notice, on the parts where he's not playing and it's very noisy, he has one of the single coils selected.

  • @flatfoot1983
    @flatfoot1983 13 років тому

    @maplewoodstudio Thanks a lot for the explanation. I was quite sure the Cap'n wouldn't feint excitement over an amp that sounds so gutless and pure-treble in real life.

  • @theverbalrelease
    @theverbalrelease 13 років тому

    @BradleyJohnHunt That really depends. Single coils on high gain are always noisy in general. Then, you have to take into consideration what lights and other electronics and equipment they may be surrounded with. And in some areas of some countries single coils will hum even worse than in other areas of those same countries because of the way the electricity is cycling in the local power grid. There are many variables.

    @sebaseba33 not always, it depends on how the pickups are wound, wired, and their magnetic polarity. that humbucker could be wired to auto-split in the "in between" positions as well. lots of possibilities there.

    But can you take your Tonelab and monitor speakers outside, or backstage to warm up with, or to a friends place to rehearse with, or run it on batteries, or get a proper valve response, or get a comprehensive Cubase package, and ...etc etc....I'm not saying there are not alternatives..I'm just saying this is the best i've ever used..simple as.

    This little beauty needs two things to be taken seriously.
    1. A foot switch for obvious reasons.
    2. A built in D.I. or even any output for that matter ... I would totally use this thing as a pre-effects box going into a power amp, but it's not an option.
    If it had those two things it could go from home practice to up on the stage very easy.

    Great player (the guitarist). I think the amp sounds cool, but I would like it better if it came in a 1x12 (or maybe even 1x10) that I could use at a gig with a drummer and bass player - particularly if they could keep the weight down. I am really tired of lugging around heavy gear all the time.

    @flatfoot1983 No, nothing to do with me! My gut feeling is it's designed to fill a room with sound the same way DAB radios are, I want to hear one when I next visit as your getting a lot for your money here. If it is designed that way it will be very hard to record with a mic on the cone, it will need a good room mic and a good sounding room to get a true sonic picture. Interesting concept at a unbelievable price....

    My first amp was a 12" 60 watt tube amp in tweed. It was heavy and loud and I almost.. learned the pentatonic scale while I had it.
    Second amp was a Fender stage 112 SE 90 watt- Also a very loud amp but it sounded great with the american standard strat.
    That was all fun and great but now looking for the third and the THR might just be it. This video has really bad sound though.

    Great sounding amp but I've seen this amp list for $300.00. The peavey viper 15 sounds great and has 4 times the modeling at a third of the price. What does the Yamaha have to make it so much more expensive than comparable offerings from other companies?

    • @ClassicTrialsChannel

      most other modelling amps just copy what comes out the speaker of the amps there copying, the THR doesn't do that, it copy's all the circuit(resistors/valves etc) to get the tune
