    Yep, I'm a huge fan of this amp, and have recorded several albums with it. The Brit Hi-Gain amp is the best JCM 800 sim I've ever used, and sounds really great with an overdrive in front. The direct USB input records very well. I often use it as an audio interface thru the "flat" setting, running other pedals and amp sims thru it, and it sounds great.

    The buzzing is probably just the normal sound of a cranked guitar near an amp. If that's the case, you can try the noise gate using the THR remote app or just embrace it and use it in your playing. These amplifiers are amazing! The dynamics of the VCM are so reactive and very close to using a valve amplifier.

    I use this as my practice amp too. I play 5-string bass in my band, and the bass setting picks up the low B (actually Bb as we play a half step down) really well.

    I've got a THR10X, I found it's much more suited to things I tend to play more often (sounds mean with a TS9 infront of it) and it can do other stuff, too, if you fiddle with presets using the PC software or download some presets.
    It's handy that it also functions as a stereo guitar interface and can provide separate stereo DI at the same time which is pretty cool...especially cool for beginners since you can get straight into recording and what not
    It's a nifty little thing I keep around for when I need it, and it tends to get used more than my studio room setup or my amps rofl

    • @RachelfGuitar

      @@RachelfGuitarTrue! The THR10 is the best overall model. However, like eating chocolate chip cookies, somehow I just had to go and buy the other two models after buying the first one and being impressed. Plus, partly out of curiosity. The THR10X has unbelievable metal tones-I lean towards that one-and good authentic 50’s Tweed Deluxe/Class A power amp tones are not hard to get on the Classic, except the Classic has a lot less gain. These units have a much more realistic tube like sound than some modeling units. That’s why I went for them even though they’re very expensive. It’s also nice to be able to plug it into a stereo power amp for a bigger louder sound and spacious stereo reverb and other effects.

      Gaming Singularity I’ve got both. The Blackstar is at a good price point, and has some nice features, but I prefer the Yamaha as it can run on batteries, aesthetically doesn’t bother my better half when it’s lying around like the Blackstar ID 20, and is easier to get the sounds I’m after. Also my Blackstar cuts out on the high gain settings ( fortunately I’m not into high gain).
      So imho, if your budget is tight go Blackstar ID, if you can find a good price THR, get it!

    I got a THR10C based on the sound of your previous videos. It's good for clean tones, but it can overdrive by turning up the gain. I love it. It's a perfect for my needs. The only drawback is the headphone jack is 1/4" in a day when 3.5mm is dominant. I had to get an adapter.

    • @theblytonian3906
      @theblytonian3906 6 років тому +1

      @retrotd Although pretty much all headset jacks are terminated 3.5mm, better quality *studio* headphones ordinarily come with a 6.5mm to 3.5mm adapter included IME. 6.5mm is still the contemporary default/standard headphone socket implementation on many amps. e.g. All current models, both of my Fenders have 6.5mm sockets, whereas both Blackstars both have 3.5mm. I inadvertantly destroyed a pair of near new, but fortunately not super expensive Yamaha headsets because of that flimsy 3.5mm socket, and was lucky I didn't wreck the socket as well. 3.5 is fine for an .mp3 player, smartphone or static use around a PC, but in a (home) studio environment where I'm moving around with a guitar attending amp settings, mixers, pedalboard etc I much prefer 6.5mm. It's more robust and will stand up to repeated use and abuse better.

      I recently got the new Boss Katana Air. It's has a wireless guitar lead, same size as the THR10, sounds great like the THR10, but has a lot of bluetooth features like being able to adjust the amp from across the room and play music or other backing tracks. I thinks its a $100 more then the THR10 and worth every penny. Both are wonderful but with all the features ill take the Boss over the Yahama even though the Yahama has style.

    If you dropped your amp and now it buzzes when the volume is loud then maybe there is something loose in there. Maybe a screw or maybe it's something you can easily glue back in place. Inspect the amp all around and locate where the screws are that keep the cover on. Then very carefully take out the screws and open it and take a look inside.

If you try turning in a different direction then this can actually help reduce buzzing noises a lot. Also, try to play in an area with minimal radio interference (radios, TVs, computers, phones...). Get a 3/4 inch piece of wood approx 1 inch by 1 inch with about a 1/2 inch hole, shape it to fit so you can access the # 1 preset and also not coverup the round digital display, superglue it around the toggle switch to protect it. Bump that minie toggle and crack the delicate pc board the toggle is mounted to and the amp is ruined. My first 2 thrs lasted about a year without a toggle cover. My 3rd thr is still travelling with me 6 years now. Protect that toggle!!!!

    I've been meaning to get the THR5 for about a year. It will be better than my current amp and it has the plus of allowing to record straight to the computer which is something that I really want to try and learn. I'm not sure if this offer is done everywhere, but on the three places I checked where I can buy it, it also comes with a Cubase licence.

      Hi, I also have short fingers and I've been playing guitar for a long time, so I can tell you that even though some things might be a little harder to play because your fingers will have a shorter reach, overall you should be ok. Practice every day and your hand will become limber enough to play even some of the harder chords and scales. Really, it all depends on how badly you want to learn to play. Hope that helps.
      By the way, your english is just fine. ☺

    • @RachelfGuitar
      @RachelfGuitar  6 років тому +6

      Anyone can play guitar regardless of hand size! Some stretches could be a bit harder with smaller hands, but there's ways to get around that and they'll become easier over time. I'm sure you'll have an awesome time with It! And agreed with the other comment, your English is great! Thanks :)

    Watching this video prompted me to dig deeper into the nature of preamps, as opposed to amps. I've always been confused by the relationship between the two on a guitar amp. After some reading, I understood gain better and the stages of an amp. I realized I'd been using my Orange Tiny Terror wrong, because I didn't understand the signal flow through it. See? You've inspired me. ;-)

    Only thing wrong with the video, at points, you forgot to mute the camera audio, but good review regardless

    I found a ton of tone loss using this and even the Katana as a DAW. A dedicated DAW like a Focusrite or Behringer gives a much cleaner/stronger signal.

      I haven't had issues until recently after moving to a new apartment, and even if you don't use it for important recording it's still convenient to have around for seeing how you sound while practicing! I am curious to try using a Focusrite interface as well though

    Hey Rachel, at this point of your time with guitar, are you so used to the Ibanez wizard neck that when you try a different guitar (Fender or Gibson) it feels like a baseball bat? Good or bad? Anyone else experienced this?

    Rachelf how long did you play guitar now. Because I see videos when you start and I see my self I struggle so much. I play 10 months

    • @RachelfGuitar
      @RachelfGuitar  6 років тому +1

      About 2 and a half years now. All that really matters is having fun with it, it can be a struggle at times but if you keep at it you'll get where you want to be :). Best of luck with your playing!

    I was wondering if this would be a decent busking amp? I can’t afford a nice Roland 😢

    • @RachelfGuitar
      @RachelfGuitar  6 років тому +1

      I think it could be since it's battery powered! I've seen some videos of people using it for busking.
